i'm rachel join me from the jenin. post. this is the the view news live from berlin an attempted coup in sudan by rebel soldiers the military's head of security says they have been rounded up just days ago the council agreed to a power sharing deal with pro-democracy activists also coming up. syrian refugees in lebanon are being forced to demolish their own homes that as authorities declare a number of prefacing camps illegal so where do they go from paris. and
berlin unveils the latest treasure on its world famous museum island after 2 decades of planning in building a new extension opens its doors a water logged on clothes some complications and expensive challenge. i'm brian thomas thanks so much for joining us sudan's military council says it has put down a 2 by members of the military and intelligence services this comes just days after the council made a power sharing agreement was pro-democracy activists senior general jamal omar abraham says rebel soldiers had been rounded up and that the coup was an attempt to quote hinder the transition to democracy so then has seen mass protests and bloody crackdowns on them by the military since the toppling of former dictator omar al
bashir earlier this year. we're joined now by abraham who's been reporting from sudan for us on this following the story good morning can you fill us in on what's behind this disk to attempt so what we know is that what the military council has told us which is that 16 officers some retired some still active are allegedly involved in this in this coup attempt the military says they want to hinder the progress that the country has made 2 things to keep in mind about this attempt it's not the 1st time that the military council in a very short period has said that there has been such an attempt there was one allegedly back in june however it they never revealed the names and never said who was behind it so you sort of have to take their word for it and because there hasn't been a lot of transparency the 2nd thing to remember is that it's not surprising the military is not homogenous as one might imagine it's made up of a mixture of more traditional forces and paramilitary forces that were that have their roots in militias so there are there are reports that there is some
dissatisfaction with the power balance between paramilitary militia forces and the more traditional forces within the transitional military council ok does this failed to midst all these different factions that you mentioned came just after a power sharing deal with civilians was reaches the 2 connected. that's what the military council says they say that you know there are some attempts to hinder this progress. but we know very little about this transitional this right i mean the official draft is yet to be released and it remains to be seen if this particular deal also brings an end to the unrest that sudan has says has seen since basically the outbreak of demonstrations back in december of 2018 ok those are those demonstrations you fit into this whole story quite a bit and there have been reports of of mass killings by the sudanese military you were waiting for more details to come in can you tell us anything about them right
so on june 3rd of this. here there was a huge. sort of military sorry party protesters sitting outside of the military headquarters in the capital khartoum the swiss this is where protesters have been congregating for months and months trying to put pressure on the military to hand over power to civilians this crackdown was bloody legit 100 people were killed within hours there are even reports of rape on men and women as they try to to flee the site under an 4th right after this attack on the internet went out for a month and was just restore 2 days ago so it's only 2 days ago that we're able to see mass footage of that day and some say that you know this carnage and this violence that we saw in these videos might have an effect on this agreement abraham covering sudan for us thanks very much it's to level on now where some of the refugee camps for the $2000000.00 syrian refugees in the country have been declared
illegal with some syrians being forced to demolish their own homes levanon has taken in more syrian refugees than any other country relative to its population and now many of those refugees are on the move again. it's back breaking work in school xing heat. and his neighbors demolished the rubes under which they've lived for 6 years the refugees from syria have to tear down their huts using only the hands of the few simple tools. the trend and i'm very angry with i've lived here since 2013 and within a span of 2 weeks they've decided that everything has to be demolished it's very hard for us i have diabetes and see all 113 huts in this refugee camp near us all are set to be destroyed a decision made by the lebanese government to stone buildings are deemed illegal and must now be removed as quickly as possible. but every morning the soldiers come
by and tell us to hurry up that many of the refugees have illnesses or suffer from depression summer camp and also their legs we have nothing here in this he. fled bombings in the syrian city of homs with his wife and 3 children here the 60 year old grandfather and his family found refuge a room a kitchen a toilet and a roof over their heads the family was grateful but is now all the more shocked following the demolition order. yet my whole being in the light we are just crushed by the news that they want us out we were safe here but what should we do now that is just as hard as when we had to leave syria then the minute that i can ever get my own. cell has been hit hard by the influx of refugees the quiet border town took in 120000 syrians 3 times its own population the rundown
electricity and water supply is close to collapse the local schools only have space for 3000 pupils but there are 12000 children and many locals worry about their jobs but that might lead to. the syrians i've been in many businesses that competed with aus and i lost my job as a result. it was a majority of our beach disposal schools and clinics already and didn't function properly before the war these problems have grown with the arrival of the refugees . well i can said the mission. he says he understands these concerns and is willing to implement the expensive eviction order but he calls it manipulative and aimed at forcing the refugees back to their homes. yet. this increases the pressure on the city council the refugees the ide
organizations but it doesn't fix any of the problems at all. so far none of the refugees have left they fear persecution in syria but life in this camp will only get harder for them now. khalid and his family have been told to move into a tent made of top hole and plastic electricity and running water have not been connected yet it offers little shelter from the summer heat and the bitterly cold winter. there's a preview now and some of the other stories making the news turkey says it has received the 1st shipment of a russian s 400 missile defense system that's the same type as this one in crimea crimea defying threats of sanctions from the united states the u.s. has warned turkey a nato member against the deal with russia u.s. president has dropped plans to add a question on citizenship to the 2020 u.s. census he said he would instead direct federal agencies to compile information on
non-citizens using existing data bases the change of course follows political battle with the democrats over including the question. it's to wimbledon now where a new chapter in one of the sport's biggest rivalries will play out later today when roger federer and rafael nadal meet in the semifinals this is the 1st meeting of the 2 most successful male players in the sport's history at wimbledon since 2008 and with both men now well into their thirty's it could be one of their last encounters. rafa had as match up with his prey drive will be the 4th time he has met the swiss master at wimbledon. roger federer on lost last month to nadal on parolees in clay the grass is of course a different matter federer has won wimbledon 8 times the answer holds
a sigh to lie natural or not down on fast surfaces the mutual respect is built on more than a decade of direct competition hetero has 2 more grand slam titles than the spaniard but nadal has a significantly better head to head record the left hander with a 9 match eat when using the last 10 meetings as a guide the scale is even arguably the sport's greatest ever rivalry episode 40 of roger versus rafael office a place in the wimbledon final. the fact that federer is now 37 years old means this passion is one to relish. now for many visitors to berlin their trip is simply not complete without a stop at museum island on the river spray in the very heart of the german capital museum island is home to 5 world class institutions the pair of them all the altar
