I cant help but to think about the woman who at this very sexuallye being assaulted and they have to face their rapist because their people advocating to end the safe abortions in our country. But think about the africanamerican teenager today that lost their lives due to gun violence. Health of mye loved ones, who no longer have health care because they are trying to repeal the Affordable Care act. While these issues may seem different to you, the truth is that cannot be any further from the truth. That we had a dream could all stand together in unity and Work Together. Recently all i am seeing in the news and media is divisive miss. In order for us to move forward there needs to be unity. There is a war on women in this country, a war on black and brown values in this country, a war on justice in this country. So today we stand here to tell sessions, andjeff everybody else in his administration that we will not be moved. Immigrants are working together, standing together in unity. And the spirit of dr. Kings leadership a vision for the future of this nation. Just four years ago, we gathered to celebratemall the 50th anniversary of that march. When we did it, it was a joyous day. We had present with us the first africanamerican president in the history of the United States. Later, we face an uncertain and unknown future. We must send the strongest possible message today that just because an election has taken wece does not change what believe in or stand for or what our vision for this nation is. Our vision for this nation, as civil rights leaders and human rights leaders combined, is a vision of in america without hate. It is a vision of america with Economic Opportunity for all. It is a vision of america with properly funded Public Schools that educate every child. It is a vision for america where health care is not a privilege but a right. It is a vision for america that says whether you are black or white or hispanic or asian or manve or day or straight or or woman, this nation is your nation. This is our nation. We will stand and stand and stand for our rights. The late Supreme Court Justice Harry blackmun said a chill wind blows all across this republic. There is a chill wind that blows. Womenl wind of fear for who heard a candidate for the presidency talk in the most vulgar terms of grabbing a womans genitalia. The fear is that this is not theaign rhetoric, but promise of an administration reality. This is a campaign in which we regularize. Homophobia routinized. Which we areign in over and over and over again our people are being marginalized. Our people being other rise otherized. The disabled being made fun of. Many of us made to feel disrespected. The president elect referred to in icon of the civil rights ement who came her loosely perilously close of becoming a model of the Civil Rights Movement being representative john lewis. The president elect said that he was all talk and no action. Disrespected. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus invited and summoned to testify before the house judiciary committee, relegated to being laughed. No questions asked. As one representative put it, they were asked to answer to the back door. Disrespected. Point . We missed the seeing a senator from the state of South Carolina referred to the naacp as a partisan organization because we gave him a failing grade. Let me say to representative lindsey graham, you get an f from the naacp because you failed on civil rights and on america. If you want to improve your , then you are in need of remedial education. I simply ask that you stand with man and the naacp with these brothers and sisters who stand for this country. And so, we are here on the eve of this holiday and the and inauguration of donald j. Trump. There are some who wants to come and celebrate the holiday. Let me remind you that the holiday is not a holiday from social justice. It is established for social justice. Let me remind you that when you look across this country, you seek millennial activists who are putting their hearts, their minds, their bodies on the line. That in the works of shakespeare, now is the winter of our discontent. Their mouths crying out lack life matter black lives matter. That it is the predicate to all lives matter. Unless the first is true, the second cannot be true. Were not going to allow you to overpopulate jails and prisons while depopulating our homes and communities. We are going to stand up for our rights. We are putting the administration on notice that we are going to the hill, to these congressional offices on the hill and back home, and we are going to tell them that you have to stand for policies that bring this era of mass incarceration to an end. You will stand for policies that will strengthen the Voting Rights act. You will strengthen policies to help our people our children go to college and not to jail. You are going to stand for policies so we do not have to have so many mothers behind this podium crying for their sons and daughters. Im going to leave you with this about the parable state we are in. A man by the name of mr. Evans came home at the end of a long his practice to disembark his car on the knownger side because of assassins. He got out on the driver side because he was tired. When he got out of the car, and assassin fired bullets into his body. As he lay dying, his dying words send me up and turn me loose zip me up and turn me loose. And turn me loose. We remind you that we are marching in the cold and rain and in the midst of this winter of discontent. We will march until hell freezes over, and when it does we will march on the ice. He spent his life working to make sure our nation lived up to the values and ideas for all americans ideals for all americans. We too, gathered here today, are patriots and believe deeply in this country, its ideals, and its institutions. We have a message for president elect trump as we gather looking for that dream still to be realized. We expect you, mr. President elect, to be the president for all americans not just the ones who voted for you. We expect you to stop targeting our communities as you did through your campaign. If not, you can expect us to stand up and protect and defend our communities at every turn. You can expect all of us here today to be reunited to be united. Sisters,thers and Brown Brothers and sisters, yellow brothers and sisters, read brothers and sisters, all of us bowing to protect the american ideals that we believe in with every fiber of our being. As this administration attempts to further compromised the right to we will stand up and protect our civil rights. If they try to put the Islamic Community on a registry, we will protect and defend our muslim brothers and sisters. If they try to repeal the Affordable Care act, we will protect and defend health care for the millions of americans who need it. Administration tries to end a program that barack obama stood up for that protected young people who came to this no fault ofugh their own and who are americans ,n every way from our dreamers if he comes after those who have been living in the shadows and does not provide an opportunity, we will protect those who are the dreamers and want to be aspiring americans. They will get their power from the enablers across society, from the media who send is big news or use false equivalency, from corporations who recognize that this is an opportunity to buy out and take back what we have wanted for generations. Who may not have the backbone in this moment but will need our vote two years and four years from now, to the republican who thinks they can govern without our vote for my work has to be across so many different spectrums. I have this quote on my wall at home and in my office. It is something i carry with me. It is a quote from frederick douglass. There is no progress without a struggle. Yete who profess freedom they wanttation rain without thunder and lightning. These next several years will make all of us uncomfortable and if we do not stand up and stand with ourin solidarity muslim brothers and sisters and our immigrant brothers and sisters and lgbt folks and women across many different sectors black folks are part of all those communities as well. Andave to use Technology Tools and invite young people into these conversations in a new way. Election thatf an was incredibly disappointing. That come at the same time color of change has stood with black lives matter activists and civil rights activist, standing for the power to change these rules, we also challenge district attorneys who did not melt you black life. We picked to seven elections and we won five of them. Alarmist parties in places like houston and chicago. This is the work we have to do, not just at the national level, but at the look level come to tell people that you will respect us, you will respect our rights and we will change the rules, not just the rules of culture, but the rules of policy. We will keep delivering Social Security checks, we will keep taking care of veterans, we will see that people have fair housing and we will stand up to an administration that pushes back. I can promise you that. The theme of this rally, we shall not be moved. Way to honor dr. King. It is time that we do not allow the Labor Movement to be moved back in this country. Thes time that we stop eroding of labor rights of public employees. Dr. King did not view civil rights, Voting Rights and union columns. Three he viewed them as one right, the right of the people. Today, ipromise to you make a promise to reverend al sharpton and the National Action network, the Labor Movement will be out there. We will be joined at the hip every day of our lives. , brothersght because and sisters, the american Labor Movement and the American Federation of government moved. Es shall not be not now, not ever. We arey that tries opening up one giant can of whoop ass on every one of them. [applause] you fired up . Fired up . [applause] senator nina turner of ohio is going to represent senator bernie sanders. [applause] brothers, and brothers and sisters, i have the joy of being here with you on this rainy afternoon. Im so glad that reverend al sharpton did not stop this because this is just a little ancestorsat our had to endure. , but we donte have selling your mama, your kids and your daddy on the block type of trouble. This moment reminds me of a spiritual song in the africanamerican tradition, how i got over, my soul looks back and wonders how i got over. Sisters and brothers, we know we got over by the blood, the sweat , somee tears of heroes whose names we hear and some whose names we do not know. We have been here before. The only difference is we have some company. We have our gay and lesbian sisters and brothers with us this time. We have our hispanic, asian, native american sisters and brothers with us this time. Here onot have gotten the same ship, but we are in the same boat right now. We happen here before. We have been here before. I want you to take solace in these words. We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope. The valley may be lower, but weve been here before. The mountain might be higher, but weve been here before. Justiceion for social and Economic Justice and and, sisters,ice we want our whole damn dollar the mission is so low, we cannot get under it. The mission is so wide, we cannot get around it. We might be disappointed, but we have been here before. As sure as there is a god in heaven, he is more powerful than any man, we cannot forget where we have come from. Sisters and brothers come i want to leave you with these three things. Number one, the creator has given us two hands. One to reach forward and want to reach back and lift as we climb. We cannot ask other folks to do more for us than we are willing to do for ourselves. Lastly, in the words of my grandmother, who was born in 1913, cannot read or write, but she could counter money. Her she could count her money. When i asked grandma what it takes to be successful in life, she said all you need are the three bones. The wishbone, the jawbone and the backbone. The with bone keep you hoping and praying because hope is the motivator. The dream is the driver. The jawbone will give you courage to speak truth to power. The most important bone of them the backbone. It will keep you standing through your trials and tribulations guess what, sisters and brothers . We cannot have a testimony without a test. We are being tested right now on whether or not we have courage enough, hope enough, quite enough fight enough to do what is necessary. Hallelujah. [applause] yeah, yeah, yeah. [applause] yes. Nowhappy to bring forward one of the most prolific voices in america today. Theother who has captured multiple dimensions of our cultural experience and articulates in the nuances of our transition. A brother who has spoken with power all over the world. A friend to the movement, a voice for the struggle. Our friend come our brother, erend Michael Irving tyson our friend, our brother, a professor at georgetown university. What an honor it is to be here today at this magnificent and incredible and powerful march of conscience for people around this country. All the great leaders who are , especially the sharpton, give him the love that he deserves. [applause] thee are about to witness first popular presidency. Belligerence, bellicose and bullying. Unmolested by enlightenment. Addicted to the United States of amnesia. He refused to study his history. He is here in a moment of incredible importance and yet, he lacks the gravitas and the study and the scholarship and the air edition and the insight and the courage and the heart to bear witness to the truth. He has put in place of our ocracy. Ent a baron millionaires and billionaires without competence. Just because you have a bunch of money doesnt know wh mean you w what youre doing. Pocketss wall but brain on empty. President elect who is unconscious of the deed and profound waters that have washed over our lives. We will not be moved. We are not going back. All of this incompetence, dont ever again say you are against socalled preferential treatment and the words affirmative action. We have the most incompetent, incapable people putting in place to run the government, mostly white men and some white women and a brother. The reality is that we must dig deep. We must remember that we are all in this together. Gay and straight and lesbian and transgender and bisexual. Christian and muslim, black and white. We are told that this is the revenge of the white working class. I love the white working class, but there is a black workingclass and a brown workingclass and a yellow and red workingclass. We are all in this together. What we must tell our White Brothers and sisters here, you have to learn from us as well. Dont be hoodwinked and snookered by investing in White Supremacy and bigotry. You have to push beyond that to understand we are all in this together. I will end by saying this. I have a new book coming out. I try to say to my White Brothers and sisters, disinvest in your innocence. This invest in your amnesia, disinvest in your fragility and learn that you and i must struggle together. Mouse once looking through the crack in the wall and he saw people, the mother and father what is in that package . It must be new food. When they opened it up, it was a mousetrap. The mouse ran back to the barnyard and told the chicken. They have a mousetrap out there. The chicken said that has nothing to do with me. Went to the big and said theres a mousetrap. The pigs that i will be that said i will be praying for you. When up to the cow and said there is a mousetrap back there. The cow said holler at me later. Later on, the mouse went back to the house and heard a big noise and the mousetrap got something. It turned out to be a venomous snake. The snake bit her. Her husband rushed her to the doctor. The doctor tried to help her. Send her back home but she had a fever. What is the best thing for a fever . Chicken soup. The farmer went out there and killed the chicken and made the soup. She did not get better. So, he said i need to help her some more. She needs more food. He went out there and slaughtered the paik. The pig. He killed the cow. Next time they tell you there is a mousetrap out there and you say it is not your issue it is you. The mousetrap is for everybody. The mousetrap is for the entire barnyard, all of us are in this together. [applause] youve got your marching orders. We are ready to do housecalls before the session votes. We are ready to deal with building an economic withdrawal on the private sector. Our homeboyear from before we leave. I know that you all heard so much preaching, we need some music. Our movement did not end because people were tired. Our movement continued. The only thing that stopped dr. King was what the fbi did. The same thing they are doing today. We must oppose the attorney we must oppose attorney general Jeff Sessions, as many have said. We must stand up for our rights and do exactly what dr. King would have us do on his birthday. We ask we have several distinguished speakers to bring forward to you. First and foremost, please welcome a very active brother. You see him what you see him representing the people of new york. This is important because we all need to start thinking about running for office ourselves at a local level. Cannot just come out and start running for president. This brother sets an example. You make a difference on city council. You make a difference in local elected office, and this brother most certainly is making such a difference. Please welcome the councilmember from brooklyn, brother williams. [applause] how are you doing . You here. E i know this is the faithful. About six months ago, a lot of people were sleep. Everybody is woke now. Everybody is ready to fight now. Dont be afraid. I know a lot of people are scared, but there is a book i read to help me get through it. The book i read said that weeping may endure for a night, but joy not just a smile joy isnot just happy coming in the morning. But it did not say it would come easy. It did not say it will come without a fight. It just said joy will come in the morning, and that means you have to be the light. That means we have to be the stars. In the darkest dark, you see the brightest stars, so look at your neighbors and tell them, i will be your star. I will be your light. You be my star. You be my light. We will get it together. Hold on a little while longer. That joy will come. Youve got to hold on because they never said it will be easy. Hold on because i know from whence i speak. I am a descendent of a slave who just wanted to hold on to get us here. Theyre going to look back and say think they understood that the moral good of the universe is long but better for justice. Hold on because we are just in an arc. We are at a comma. Its not a full stop. Hold on because no justice, no peace is not just a mantra its a moral it it. You have to hold on because people asking for one and not the other are morally inept. Go from sea to shining sea. Hold on because we listen closely you are here. Your childrens children say, please, dont forget about us. Omeone remembered you. Hold on because we have to we will bring it back. Hold on. Keep pushing forward, dont just push back. Hold on. [applause] we know there is a war against organized labor, and we have reason to believe this new president is going to continue that war, and we have to stand up against it. Whoome now a young brother is trying to be part of a union. We should not take anybody for granted. Dr. King gave his life for garbage workers. , dole that, to a lot of us not even better. How many of us even speak to the sanitation workers . But he sacrificed his life for the sanitation workers, the people on the ground doing everyday work. This is a brother who is working on behalf of us and ought to be treated fairly. Please welcome he is a baggage handler at Ronald Reagan international airport. I dont even like the name of that airport. Never should have named that airport that airport. Trying to organize. Here . All right, brother. 32 32 32 afternoon, my people, brothers and sisters. Im from Ronald Reagan national airport. Supervisor. Unner the wear and tear on my body is very significant. Im not just trying to improve my life. Im trying to improve the lives of millions. Me . Ou hear good afternoon, my beautiful brothers and sisters. Baggage handler supervisor at Ronald Reagan international airport. Im not only representing myself but representing 100 people who work two or three jobs every single day who do not have time to go home, sleeping in cars and sleeping at airports. They pay us nothing. Some people get paid 5. 25, 6. 25, nine dollars an hour. Ive been at the airport nine years going on now, and i never got a raise. Its only 8. 25 an hour. Thats not enough. When you see us at the airport you might think we are looking all good, making all that money, but we are not making nothing. No raise, no health care benefits, no nothing. Now that we have donald trump coming into the white house, he is trying to take away our but i refuse to believe that we are going to give up. We are going to fight to keep our obamacare. Under the trump administration, we are facing the darkest days and challenges of our life. The ceo of carls jr. And hardees violated labor laws. As labor secretary, he will be in charge of of holding many forr laws and reparations companies that violate it. Thats like the fox guarding the hen house. He also makes more in a day than i do in a year, so i dont know how its possible for him to understand my struggle. Thats why we are committed to Work Together to do everything to win a minimum 15. Because of the National Action network who has our back, they have been working together to fight for 15 and a union. I know that dr. Martin luther king would be standing with us in a fight for our jobs with as he stoodrespect striking with memphis sanitation workers at the end of his life. A world where we already have too many Things Holding us down now, as we continue, we stay strong and united. We do not play. We fight, we win. We fight, we win. God bless america. Thank you. We can finally say proudly we stand with our sisters and brothers in the Lgbt Community. That is what dr. King would have done. When history is told, it will be to theat on january 14, people that stood in the rain, it was cold and it was freezing, and some of us were shivering, but we understand that there was something that we had to do that was bigger than us. I understand many of you stand with the Lgbt Community, but i have come to make a statement this afternoon that the Lgbt Community stands with you. Let me put it another way it stands with us. As the father of five and the grandfather of the most beautiful baby boy that ever walked the face of this planet, i stand with you today because i understand its not just about us. Its about Voting Rights. Its about health care. Its about jobs. Its about the ability to worship in the way that we choose to worship. Im not here to tell you who to worship. Tell you we are for justice for all. Some of us are depending on us some others are depending on us to take a step back. This is a trick that has been played on us over time. They want to divide and separate us over what some of us believe, but im here to tell you that we are not falling for that trick anymore. We shall not be moved. We shall not be moved. Black folks, white folks, latino folks, lesbian folks, straight folks, muslims, jewish, christian, left, right we shall not be moved. We are not threatened by our , but as the greatest first lady that has ever lived Michelle Obama said, it is our diversity that makes us who we are. Dr. King said many years ago we have some difficult days ahead, but i declare before you standing with me are 1. 5 million members of the human rights campaign, that we stand together, we stand united and get it right. We dont have to be uniform in our thinking to be united, but we can move in our diversity, so i stand with you to declare that ,s a people, a Diverse People black people, brown people, young people, old people, women, men, transgender, black, white, we shall not be moved. It was in his only term in the second year of his presidency that jfk asked this organization to be formed to ensure that there were equal rights under the law. It has been a long day, but the real work lies ahead. No justice no peace. Suppression, no peace. Police shootings, no peace. Mass incarceration, no peace. Violence against women, no peace. Islamophobia no peace. Hate crimes and hateinspired violence. No peace. Shootings inside our churches and houses of worship. No peace. The rise of the altright. No peace. Photo id laws. No peace. Economic inequality. No peace. Barriers faced by people with criminal histories who are seeking a Second Chance. No peace. The school to prison pipeline. No peace. Racial profiling. No peace. Great progress, but we cannot afford to turn the clock back now. We cannot allow them to hack our justice system. Thats right. Justice said that power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. I am proud to stand up here today representing civil rights lawyers across our country who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and fight. This fight to court across our nation. We will do the hard work that is necessary to make sure that this administration enforces our nations federal civil rights laws and does not turn this nation back. Coretta scott King Scott King opposed the nomination of mr. Jeff sessions to become a federal judge in 1980 six. Mrs. King said that Jeff Sessions abused the awesome powers of his office in an attempt to intimidate and frighten elderly black voters. We will not forget history. We will lift up the words and scott king andta continue to stand in opposition of mr. Jeff sessions to serve as attorney general of the United States. No justice, no peace. Thank you.
