Texas. This one about an hour from austin. The feds looking at whether its connected to the serial bomber. Stand by. We have much more on that coming up. But first, legal drama here in washington. President trump is looking to add a highprofile, highpowered attorney to his legal team as special counsels russia investigation veers ahead. He is a former solicitor general, former assistant attorney general at the Justice Department. He was part of the legal team that helped overturn the gay marriage ban here in the United States, and he argued the bush versus gore Citizens United cases before the United States supreme court. The overture to olson is part of a legal shakeup. The president has talked about firing ty cobb while john dowd talked about resigning. The addition of the trump legal team, by the way, is joe digeneva and claims people in the Justice Department and the fbi have been trying to frame the president. All of this just nine days after the president tweeted this the failing New York Times purposely wrote a false story stating that i am unhappy with our legal team on the russia case and that im going to add another lawyer to help out. Wrong. I am very happy with my lawyers john dowd, ty cobb and jay sekulow. They are doing a great job and have shown conclusively there was no collusion with russia. Just excuse for losing. The only collusion was that done by the dnc, the democrats and crooked hillary. A hillary flunkie knows nothing about me and is not given access. Clearly she had some pretty good information. Lets bring in our correspondent pamela brown. Pamela, what are you learning about this possible shakeup, the addition coming in for the legal team of the president . Reporter we have learned the legal team has reached out to Theodore Olson to join the legal team. Dunn is not good with this given they are tied to the russia investigation. It is known that the president s aides had reached out to ted olson earlier on when they were searching for lawyers to represent him in the russia probe, and ted olson also declined at that time. But its clear here, wolf, that there isnt growing increasingly agitated and calling Robert Mueller by name for the first time on twitter. He is realizing that the russia probe is seemingly only ramping up. Its not expected to end any time soon despite what he has been told by his lawyers. And wolf, sources tell us that the president s lawyers as well as investigators with Robert Muellers team actually met in person last week to discuss possible topics, more specifics of topics to go over if an interview does happen with the president , including Jeff Sessions role in the firing of james comey and what the president knew about his former National Security adviser Michael Flynn and his conversations about sanctions with sergei kislyak, the former russian ambassador. But wolf, as you know, the president has publicly said hes willing to sit down with Robert Mueller, that hes eager to do so, but privately sources tell us hes been vascillating on that as hes realizing the russia probe is not slowing down any time soon, wolf. Thank you, pamela brown. Well have more live coverage with you later. Lets bring in cnn contributor and analyst ella johnson and gloria borger. You know ted olson well, you know the others. What do you think . As pamela said, weve been trying to report this the last couple of days, and its very clear whats going on from our sources that the president thought this was going to be over. He was listening to his attorneys, and we all know this because we reported it. They were saying, it will be over by november, no, by december, no, early in the new year. There is a subpoena for the Trump Organization. They get a bunch of questions or topics that they look at, including the ones pamela is talking about, which talked about sessions role in the firing of comey, what did the president know about general flynns conversations with the russians. The president says, wait a minute, ive been getting bad advice. This isnt going to end any time soon, and he blows up. And john dowd and he talk over the weekend, im told, and the president dowd ends up sending that tweet, which was clearly approved or encouraged or urged by the president , and dowds tweet was critical of mueller. So i think what the president is trying to do now is figure out where to go. Hes unhappy with everyone because its not over. And as a result, his lawyers are also struggling with what to do next. So i think its a big mess, to be honest about it, and john dowd, however, is the person who has been communicating with mueller all the time. If you were to remove him or he were to remove himself, and hes been the gobetween, i think that looks very bad for the president , and its a difficult situation when youre trying to deal with the special counsel. He clearly is frustrated, ileana, the president. He clearly is not happy that this investigation which he calls a witch hunt, a hoax, is going on and on and on, and theres been some concern he may go ahead and fire mueller, although the speaker responded to those fears earlier today. Listen to this. The special counsel should be free to follow through his investigation to its completion without interference, absolutely. I am confident that hell be able to do that. Ive received assurances that his firing is not even under consideration. We have a system based upon the rule of law in this country. We have a Justice System and no one is above that Justice System. So what are you hearing, ileana . Look, when you hear paul ryan say that sort of thing, weve heard republican senator Lindsey Graham come out and say that firing Robert Mueller would be an impeachable offense. These republicans are going on tv to talk to the president and set clear parameters for him to tell him that firing bob mueller will turn yinto an even bigger headache for you than bob mueller is right now. Dont go there. But i think there are two points to make on the broader drama with the president. The first is that the legal advice, quote, unquote, that the president has been getting is mixed in with his lawyers attempting to manage him by telling him that this is going to be over soon, dont tweet, and so on. And thats why its gotten tricky because he was clearly going to catch on that this isnt actually over when my lawyers are telling me its going object over. Second point is that the constant of all of the drama surrounding the white house. Personnel drama with his lawyers, the broader personnel with the white house. The broader drama is with the white house. What you hear the president express with his white house personnel and his cabinet, its the same deal with the lawyers. He simply gets frustrated with the people surrounding him. And adam, he clearly wants those lawyers to be mor mor more assertive, go on television and make the case with him. He certainly wants them to whip up the base, keep the base supporting him. I think whats interesting about this also is his frustration goes beyond just russia when it comes to he has this instinct, and he wants to take action, and his advisers, whether area lawyers or his National Security adviser or others, are trying to keep him from doing what his gut is telling him to do. Theyre trying to manage him, like you said. Whether its north korea, do you talk to the leader of north korea . Whether its the iran deal. And he alluded in his Public Statement today in the oval office, wait and see what im going to do in a month from now when that comes up. So constantly you can see that he wants to go further and people are just trying to keep him from going as far as he maybe wants to go. And so what we dont know in the mueller case and what ryan is saying is the president is the kind of person that clearly is willing to go a lot further than what people will tell him he should be doing. So i wouldnt rule out the possibility that in a few months from now, in one of these fits of rage, he does go further. And he clearly is upset that this is going on and on and on, and also that muellers team is looking at Trump Organization business records, which earlier he had told the New York Times would cross a red line. Hes upset at all of that. And you combine that with the fact that hes telling his friends that he knows how to do this job now. He wants to surround himself with people that arent going to tell him no all the time anymore. That was part of the issue with barry cohn, it may be the deal with mcmaster. You have a president that may feels emboldened. I got this job with someone who isnt telling him no. I quickly want to go to austin, texas. There is a News Conference on the latest developments in the serial bomber case. Right now they are investigating this incident. Due to the nature of this incident and past events, we have all of them on scene as a precautionary measure to ensure the community is safe. Again, we are still investigating this incident. Now, if you see anything out of the ordinary or anything suspicious, we are asking that you call 911 immediately. I dont have any further information to provide right now regarding the incident itself. We are, again, currently investigating. [ inaudible question ] i dont have information if there is any type of link. Again, we take these suspicious package calls very seriously, and so we ensure that we have all of our partners out here, including our bomb squad, our executive staff just, again, as a precautionary measure. As of right now, we dont have any type of link to say this is, in fact, related to the san antonio incident. [ inaudible question ] any type of package or suspicious package call that we get at the Department Due to past events, we take it very seriously. Thats why we have everyone out here right now, because we want to make sure the community is safe. Can you tell us who called it in and what made it suspicious . I cant give information on the caller at this point in time. I dont have the details on what exactly made the package suspicious or had it identified as a suspicious package. But again, as police officers, or just as a department, when we receive any type of call like this, we make sure we take all the necessary precautionary measures just to ensure the communitys safety. Im sorry, what was that . [ inaudible question ] i dont have any information regarding any type of detonation of any type of package. Again, you can see right now the scene is still very active. As we have more information, well put it out there, but right now were still investigating this incident. [ inaudible question ] i dont have details or specifics on the actual package itself and what made it suspicious. You are asking the public to determine if there is a specific package but you cant tell us how people recognize its a specific package. It sounds very complicated. If you did not order something, if youre not expecting a package, if its something that doesnt have an official label on it, or even if its just a package itself, please call 911, let the officers handle it. Anything suspicious, something out of the ordinary you dont feel comfortable or you feel unsafe about, please call us so we can assist. So thats the latest from the officer destiny winston in austin, texas. Apparently they found a suspicious package that theyre investigating right now at the airport in austin, texas. This follows yet another explosion of some sort of package at a fedex site about an hour, hour and a half away from austin, not too far from san antonio. In austin, the work of a serial bomber. You know something about these types of investigations. We will. The. I think, wolf, we could connect them even without the evidence. Smalltown bombs are very rare these days, and what were dealing with is a psychopath who is killing randomly, which makes it very difficult to find out who this is. What disturbs me is often these bombers will understand one technique, one kind of bomb, and theyll continue to use it until theyre caught. But this guy has gone to trip wires, hes sending it through fedex, and there is no apparent motivation. Thats whats very disturbing and makes it so difficult. Thats why they put this call. Call for someone who is involved in some sort of plot. You could say after the first few this is a racist deal, but the last one to get someone walking along on a trip wire, i would say they dont have any certain motivation. How do they go about finding this individual if its just one person . Its like the euunabomber. If they cant tie things together with metadata, theres really nothing you can do. This guy appears. Were going to be watching this closely. A school was fired up in maryland before the shooter being taken out by a School Resource officer. Theres been another School Shooting here in the United States, this time in maryland. A student shot and wounded two other students at a high school in the town of great mills. Moments ago police made this statement. This is a reality we hope would never come to fruition. This is our worst nightmare. Today at approximately 7 55 a. M. Braiden High School Student austin rawlins, age 17, produced a handgun while in hallway f in Great Mills High School and shot a great mills High School Student, a female who was 16, and a great mills High School Student, a male, who was 14. The School Resource officer, deputy first class Blaine Gaskell was alerted and immediately responded and engaged the shooter. Blaine gaskell fired the shooter in whats been described to me as almost simultaneously the shooter fired. First aid was immediately initiated by deputies, troopers and School Nursing staff to include a tourniquet placed on the shooting victim and cpr. There is an indication that a prior relationship existed between the shooter and the female victim. We are working as we speak to determine if that was, and if so, the extent of that and if it was part of the motive for this shooting. We continue to interview witnesses, collect forensic evidence from multiple crime scenes and examine the shooters Electronic Devices and all aspects of social media and social media traffic. The 14yearold male student was transported to medstar st. Marys hospital, is in stable condition there. The 16yearold female student was transported to pg shock trauma and she is in icu with lifethreatening critical injuries. I would ask that anyone who has any information please call the hot line thats been established, 1800callfbi. Now i would like to introduce the governor of maryland, dr. Larry hogan. Thank you very much for being here today. First of all, i want to thank sheriff tim cameron and this Incredible Team at the st. Marys Police Department who responded in an incredible way with the support of Law Enforcement agencies from neighboring jurisdictions in Calvert County and Charles County together with state police. We got atf and fbi here. This has been a terrific joint effort. I also want to thank all the First Responders who did an incredible job, and i think everybody went above and beyond the call of duty in this particular incident. Its tragic. Our hearts are broken, and were extremely saddened, and our thoughts and prayers are always with the victims, all the students and their families. No parent should ever have to worry about, when they send their kids off in the morning to school, whether theyre going to come home safely or not. We need more than prayers. I want to thank these First Responders in Law Enforcement for the job they did, but we need more. We have to take action. Weve got one of the most aggressive School Safety plans in america that we introduced several weeks ago as an emergency legislation in office. They refused to take action on it. We put 150 million in School Safety, 50 million a year into a Deputy Sheriff that saved people from being injured or killed today. Not every school has that opportunity. And more Mental Health counselors. Its a tr
