plus, anger over the government shut dounl boilsover in the streets of washington. >> protesters voice their frustration. and rater, two orthodox jew ish rabbis were accused of kidnapping and beating until they agreed to divorce their wife. a bizarre criminal case just ahead. first up, crunch time on capitol hill. senate leaders from both parties are working this sunday to break the impasse and avoid the first default in u.s. history. >> yesterday, with senator mcconnell. we're in conversation today. i'm confident the governments will extend the ability of this country to pay its bills. and i'm going to do everything that i can throughout the day to accomplish just this. it's important we do this. we must do this. it's the height of hi pock ra si to not pay our bills. >> senate ma sdwrorty leader talks for about a half hour yesterday and again today. senator mcconnell is put forward by fellow republican senator susan collins. he released a statement saying, in part, there is a bipartisan plan in place. irt's time for democrat leaders to take yes for an answer. mark preston is live. what are they up to? >> well, we know that the house republicans are out of the confers, at least as we speak at this poemt. however, it's just only a few days remaining until default day, october 17th over on the house side. one of the options is prapgs sending oots measure back to the senate. perhaps within the next day or so. the reason being is that perhaps the senate is not able to get together and actually strike a deal. the house can move a lot more quicker. so hougs republican leaders are considering sending something over that would be perhaps in some ways a clean debt limit bill. we don't know how the rest of that would shape up. it's certainly something that would not get the full support of the house senate republicans. that's what we're hearing here on the house side. >> wow. it's fascinating. yesterday, har riff reid said senator colin's proposal is not acceptable to the democrats. but he's changed his tune just a little. >> what we heard just a few hours ago is harry reid came out on the senate floor and, in fact, he was combative. we have not seen michl mechanic konld on the floor. the question is what will we see over the next couple of hours. that's noot to say that they won't. what's really going to happen is the pressure will start building. >> mark preston on capitol hill. i'm predicting that you will you will not have much sleep this week. thank you. >> let's turn over to jim acosta. >> what did they talk about? >> that's rieblgt. >> i think there was some more positionings going only there. the president said he wants a kpleen bill to reopen the government. why would they tell us that? basically to say that he's not budging at this point. so i think what mark preston was just talking about, i think this is the president's way of saying, hey, guys, listen. if you want to get something done that's going to get signed by the president, here's where i stand right now. and a lot of passion in washington today. what was going on there? >>. >> everything is very calm here at the white house. but earlier today, it got pretty emotional. we saw a group of 300 tea partiers and testers. and they were piling those barricades rn kads up in front of the fence in front of the north lawn of the twhiet house. sort of along that pedestrian area. somebody could have really jumped over those. we saw a good number of them in riot gear to hold back those protesters and, at certain points, during this exchange, there was a built of a scuffle here and there now, there were some veter rans in the crowd. but i want to poichbt out that we saw one man out there waving a con fed ralt plag. we saw other protesters out there withism meech obama signs. that whole protest is now over. >> manning the war v bar kwad. i'm sure it's going to get mr sbhens as the week duos on. if anything gets raw makers at 9: 9:30 a.m. it can be a tufl day on wall street. i just got off the phone with one trader and he said you're going to see wall street watching the rhetoric. the market will absolutely give back the gainings that it took last week. in fact, tree games in a row from wednesday until friday. that was the biggest point game since desz of 1011. the shut down started on october 1 gs. but tomorrow, we may see wall street signal that it's not happen pill now with what happened over the weekend we are getting dangerously close to that deadline. >> yeah, we know where things stand for the evening. we pretty much know where it's going to be in the morning. >> yeah, well, it all depends on what happened o what happens today. and then you plook at the weekend enas a whole. don't were p be surprised if you see the markt react badly. >> don't be surprised if you see investors selling stocks. we don't know kpaktsdly what would transfire from it. but we got close to it wac in august, 2011. still, it really was down to the wire. we saw our u.s. credit rate raiding downgrade. they sold short term treasury bonds that are coming due in oblgt, ermly november. jp morgan did the same. >> thank you very much. all nine teenagers who were reportedly abducted from a ranch are together. police say they've confirmed that four boys are back with their parntds. but they are keeping an amber ale alert until the location of the others has been con fimpled. >> six people were injured in that shooting. vrjts . in india, 14 people are dead. a shocking end to the 22-year-old mystery who killed baby hope. new york police finally saw the cold case.
