>> at least from state officials i've spoken with, an additional up to 200 more pardons that have been signed off on. these are not all for the crime of murder, however, i am told there are additional murders now that have been pardoned as a result of governor barbour's actions. they say it's a very significant number, as we all obviously realize. i look back historically at the number of pardons, and it's not just pardons, but there are other forms that can be given. when you add them all up in the previous administrations going back to at least the late '80s, there is nothing close to that number. >> on the commercial break i kept asking you why would he do that, and the answer is he doesn't have to explain himself. >> he does not have to. this is a power that almost all governors in the united states have and the president of the united states has. it's typically one they use at the end of their administration. however, this extent, this number is just shocking. shocking in many ways because hailey barbour, staunch republican. and this many people who are being pardoned. all murders are terrible, but some of them are very egregious when you read the details. >> i can't help thinking about the family of a loved one who was killed. you have this person who was convicted and in prison for life and all of a sudden they're pardoned. the are they outraged? >> the emotions come flooding back, and on top of that, they're saying, now we are at sea. they're very much frightened for what may come next and now, apparently, many more families are going to suffer through this fear. it's really a shocking development to watch happen in a state that's been so conservative where most people. they're thinking that barbour is leaving the wrong kind of legacy. >> you don't see these numbers until the '80s, at least. you're about to see it. rapid fire. beginning with.793 off the coast of sumatra. a 7.3 magnitude earthquake killed 2.7 million people in that one. >> governor ruth bader said it is oftentimes hard to determine what's decent and what's not. he said honey, jus advertise. ruling could sit in the first alert broi. and a seven. ne next. yep. max here got to blow up a building, specifically the conagra plant here in ohio. the city plans to build up the site. the hintons are from california, but the make-a-wish foundation set that up, so he had to actually push a button to see. >> kids are alice in the. >> i imagine this was a big day for the little guy. sizes of moving. now trying to before. climate change in nuclear fears make the end of the world more likely. bad weather has caused the stern of this cargo shipt -- i into tons of water so at the say there is no risk to ground. >> we are 45 minutes away from that closing bell. you can check the dow. it is up on the green, up 71 points. allison apparently, allison, from the numbers to orange juice we go until. >> fundicide, tomato, tomato. it came from an orange crop from brazil last year and sold rejected. he's actually techg. it grows on citrus trees, but you really don't to. keep in mind that 75% of the orange juice on the u.s. market is in flor. 34 of a supply shortage. when i werd about. mort measure and randolph duke. not bad. they got rich. >> who thought you would be reporting on orange juice features. the exciting nature of your job, allison costas. >> first in her bear. grenades, murder, all on a ma massive scale. that is what one man wanted in a major city. danny bye, who is going to explain what's happening, next. you can with green giant frozen vegetables. over twenty delicious varieties have sixty calories or less per serving and are now weight watchers-endorsed. try green giant frozen vegetables with sauce. the army is ruling a soldier's death in colorado springs fort carson a homicide. this is 28-year-old brenda fontaneau of houston. the army is not offering any other details. two arrests involving two men in separate cases with one common goal. to hurt, damage the united states. federal officers arrested a 25-year-old just yesterday on charges that he planned to set off a car bombing, takes hostages and then blow himself up to, quote, create mayhem in tam tampa, florida. he was born in kosovo. he is a nationalized american, and federal documents say he wanted payback for wrongs done to muslims. also another case, federal prosecutors charged a former u.s. soldier to get somalia to join the terror organization malshabob. he tried to avoid detection by flying through neighboring kenya but he was arrested there. fbi's international operations. tom, these two men worked alone. we're by no means connecting these two men, either, but the thing we first thought, these are examples of success in these lone wolf cases. >> there's been a number of these cases already in the past few years, and there's more under investigation currently, and it's just a question of at what point the fbi or police want to terminate the investigation, arrest the subject and attempt to convict them with what they have. there is already cases that have happened like this and now two more. >> something else that strikes us when we read about these cases, some of these plots are carried out, some are not. you had this soldier you mentioned who is 24, and the suspect was 25. you look, tom, at all these lone wolves and they're so young. what do you make of that? >> i think that's the power of the internet and mass communications. if they can learn about these events and in their mind treat it as if it just happened yesterday or recently. that's not unusual that we have these young fighters, whether here or overseas. pakistan, afghanistan, somalia. we've got young fighters who were 10 or 12 years old at the time of 9/11. we've been talking about lone wolves, though, since prior 2001. since that day, how much has law enforcement had to shift in stopping these kinds of acts before they happen? >> the shift is that they have to really make sure that they're conducting extensive community relations programs to get the cooperation of the local communities in this case and to maintain great cooperation overseas with all of the international partners. in the case of black saum flying and bringing hundreds of dollars with him, that took cooperation between the office in nairobi, kenya and kenya police. this enabled them to identify him and determine what his intention was as far as why he wanted to go to somalia and assist or join al-shabab. >> i am sure the fbi, tom, gets hundreds of tips, people calling in, and there has to be a clear delineation between those who want to cause harm and those that are just curious. >> i think there are more on 111. does the veteran afraid of his own chaer -- the intelligence community, state and local police agencies here as well as cooperating partnerships accidepartnerships, relationships with police all over the world. it's great credit that so far we've had great success interrupting these plots and determining what their intention was. >> we would rather be reporting on this suspect and not the other. now this. >> is capitalism really about the ability of a handful of rich people to manipulate the lives of thousands of other people? >> somehow the republican race just took a bizarre turn. republican candidates are debating capitalism, cash and the rich. they were outside the profit of his? >> she's going to join me live next. hello. >> good to be here. good to be with you. we'll be right back. i don't know if you can hear the newsroom buzzing behind. we are less than four hours now from most of the polls closing in new hampshire. we have been talking about the fact that mitt romney is most definitely expected to win this new hampshire primary. the question is -- one of the questions is by how much. we are going to be looking to see whether there will be a last-minute attacks by newt gingrich to shrink mitt romney's chances. have you ever heard of republicans fighting one another over something like this? >> it's interesting, because when i first started covering politics, ronald reagan's 11th commandment was thou shalt not speak ill of another republican. not only are they attacking each other, but they're attacking each other on a republican issue, which is business experience. you know, that is mitt romney's whole reason for being a political candidate, or so he says, and republicans say they have better business experience to lead the country out of our terrible economic times, and what are they doing? they're having their own little argument, their own little class warfare, if you will, within the republican party. it's crazy. >> i asked. we had one of the gingrich daughters, jackie gingrich cushman on, and i said, look, is this personal now? and she said, no, no, no, it's not personal. he's not angry. >> yes, yes, yes. >> it's ugly. >> i say yes, yes, yes. it is ugly. don't forget, newt gingrich is one of the most accomplished attack politicians of our time. and when i saw him say in iowa, i'm going to be positive, i'm going to take the high road -- >> did you buy it? >> i kept thinking to myself, well, he was making a virtue out of necessity because he didn't have a lot of money. but those romney attackers that attacked newt gingrich as a phoney capitalist, $3 million worth thrown at him, and he got angry and he got upset. so i think he thought the only way to survive was to fight back, and this is becoming personal. it seems a little scorched earth to me, because if newt gingrich fails, what he's going to do is try and bring mitt romney down a peg or down with him. >> but if he's able to bring him down a peg or two, or however much tonight, and if it's successful, and now it's not only gingrich on the bandwagon, it's all these other candidates as well as we look at south carolina and florida, might we see thois narrative play out? >> i think we'll see the narrative play out. i don't think we'll see as much effect in new hampshire. it's going to take a week or so to sink in, but you're going to see a very nasty, mean campaign in south carolina. but the positive side for romney is that all the other folks are going to be attacking each other as well in addition to attacking him. there's going to be a lot of noise, and it may all cancel each other out and voters in the end may decide to go for the status quo, which in this case is probably mitt romney. we'll have to see how that plays out. >> how damaging this whole -- the gop, this whole debate, capitalism business -- >> it is damaging. >> how damaging? >> it's damaging to romney's brand. there's a difference between the small business, blue collar conservative wing of the republican party and the corporate elite wing of the republican party. so it's kind of corporate capitalism versus buccaneer capitalism, and newt gingrich is making the case that romney came in, got people fired, and made a lot of money, and i built businesses, i saved businesses, i didn't destroy businesses. but what this does, it gives barack obama all the ammunition he needs. romney may turn out to be a better candidate as a result of this, so keep that in mind. >> watch for the play by play tonight, 7:00. i'll be there, too. you can catch both of us along your favorites tonight, 7:00 eastern. do not miss it. gloria, thank you very much. a grandmother said someone put a bomb on her ankle, forced her to rob a bank. find out what her husband was doing through this whole thing. what police found at her home. plus, for one republican candidate, new hampshire is a thing of the past. we're live there. next.
