State Rep. Greg Howard, R-Stonington, had nominated Konicki, who also heads the Ocean Community Chamber Foundation, for the award. The commission specifically wrote that when the pandemic began in March 2020, many business owners, employees, residents, and the community at large quickly grew anxious. "Immediately, Lisa emerged and began with a 'Community Strong' campaign reminding residents that as unsure as tomorrow was, their community would always stick together. She led with support of local businesses through monetary grants, donated equipment to meet guidelines, and marketing campaigns to generate revenue for those small businesses who were struggling to survive. She orchestrated events to keep the community going in a COVID-safe way, even dressing as the Easter Bunny and spending 9 hours per day over two weekends visiting homes, so their children felt safe and "normal." Lisa almost one year later, continues to lead this community and its many small businesses through these trying times.
