Dec 11, Colombo: The National Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa, which is being constructed with Chinese assistance, is scheduled to be opened to the public next January.
The National Kidney Hospital being built at a cost of Rs. 12 billion is a total gift from the government of China. The Chinese Government is sponsoring the entire project following a request made by the former President Maithripala Sirisena.
The 200-bed hospital will be equipped with all modern medical equipment to treat kidney disease. A 100-bed dialysis unit will also be established within the hospital. It is also planned to establish an Out Patients Treatment Department. There will also be six modern surgical theatres needed for the kidney transplant and an out patients and specialized kidney patients clinic complex. There will also be a modern auditorium with a 200 seating capacity and a car park which can accommodate 300 vehicles. There will also be hostel facilities needed for the hospital staff.
