To get hurt. This is not to say that this micro Mobility Technology might be a good firstmile, lastmile solution, but i think mta and these Companies Still have a little ways to go. And relative to the item that president yee introduced, item 47, on todays agenda, which is cosponsored by every Single Member of this board urging the mta to issue permits that are compliant with ab5 and respect workers rights, lets be clear that some of these Companies Continue to exploit loopholes in state and local employment law. And i was actually informed by a representative of the Teamsters Joint Council 7 this morning, that at least two of the Scooter Companies that are anticipating permits in two weeks are using thirdparty basically temp agencies, like Silicon Valley startup blue crew to get around the obligation to hire employees with adequate compensation packages and benefits, even though these employees are technically w2 classified employees. This labor model has been a problem for decades in the Agricultural Industry and in the Food Processing industry. And my belief is that by enabling this type of employment model, San Francisco is on the verge of exacerbating a problem that has plagued the teamsteres and other labor organizations up and down the streets for decades. In my offices discussion with the mta the past few days, they have been thankfully receptive to the concerns. And so to that end, i am introducing a resolution today to urge the mta to respect workers rights as well as to address some of the other issues that i have raised and i will distribute copies of that resolution to all of you colleagues and look forward to your support. An Incredible Community leader and executive director at collective impact. Collective impact is a Community Focused Youth Development nonprofit based out of the fillmore Western Addition that is dedicated to providing youth, families and other programs the tools and resources they need to succeed. For close to 20 years, i cant believe were that old, rica, shes worked in youth and education throughout San Francisco. Specifically in the fillmore Western Addition neighborhoods. In 2016, she joined the collective impact team as their executive director. Prior to taking on this role, she served the magic zone program for five years as educational director, guiding all aspects of k12 out of school time programs. She also spent eight years at school of the sacred heart and 10 years at the boys and girls club of San Francisco. Youre an inspiration. Your longtime commitment to Youth Development and education is an invaluable resource for our community and ensuring equitable accesses to resources in the city. And its really most traditionally the communities that are left out that you actually work with. Your work is an incredible and important to the vitality and diversity of San Francisco. The residents of San Francisco, as well as everyone who comes to visit our city are so much better for all the work you do, rica, and that you have done to preserve, create opportunities for the youth in the fillmore western. Rica, from the bottom of my heart, i hate to see you go, because thats actually, this is a goodbye, but for you. But i know its a new beginning for you also. Im selfishly talking for me and the community losing you at collective impact. So today i wanted to recognize your leadership. And your vision for more inclusive educational spaces, social justice, and communitybuilding. San francisco extends its most honorable praise to you and wishes you the best when you enter your new career. Your work has helped create a more welcome and equitable San Francisco. And especially for our youth, but also for our families. So thank you for your commitment, rica. And i just want to say, you know what . You have my cell number. I just wanted to chime in and say, you know, ive had opportunity to work with you, on the Community Side and this role as member of the board of supervisors and i want to say thank you so much for all of your hard work. With our young people, which of course, have been some of the hardest to serve traditionally. And youve been successful in helping young people reach their goals. And achieve success. So thank you so much. And you deserve this honor. I just want to say, it has been an honor and privilege to come back to the city i grew up in and help, not just young people, but families and young parents. And create equity in spaces where it was not. And really push our young people and advocate for them to go as far as they want to go and do whatever it is they want to do. Supervisor mandelman thank you, president yee. St. Francis lutheran folks, you want to come up. Today, i want to honor st. Francis Lutheran Church on Church Street for the sunday morning hospitality hour. For nearly 25 years, members of st. Francis and their neighbors and friends have provided a weekly breakfast for all of those hungry. Each saturday, volunteers meet in the afternoon to sort food donated by trader joes and whole foods and deliver to the church by the amazing folks at food runners. Then bright and early on sunday morning, like really bright and early, like 5 00 a. M. , volunteers meet to prepare a delicious warm breakfast. Each week more than 100 meals are served. Last year, st. Francis was able to serve more than 6,000 meals over the course of the year. They provide an hour of respite for folks facing chaos on the streets, a warm room to set aside belongings, read, chat with with friends or just rest. People ask me what they can do about homelessness in San Francisco . I encourage them to volunteer to st. Francis or others that provide help to those in need. Dawn, a lesbian woman at st. Francis, invited me to join them for a sunday hospitality hour. Like so many of their volunteers, i kept coming back. In my case, for a monthly shift working the door. The stalwarts are there every week. I only make it in once a month. But whatever our level of commitment, i would imagine all the volunteers agree, we get far more than we can give. For that, this jew is incredibly grateful to st. Francis lutheran and the wonderful family of volunteers. Now for the bit of the history. Which i did not know before doing this. The corner stone of the church was laid at 152 Church Street in 1905. During the 1906 earthquake, the church served as a feeding station and hospital, perhaps a foreshadowing of the role it would play later. They emerged with first Lutheran Church and the United Church became st. Francis. They embrace diversity of households, race, gender, gender identity, age, and they feel a particular calling to advocate for the lgbtq community. In 1990, st. Francis Lutheran Church and the first united Lutheran Church ordained a gay man and lesbian couple. Solely because they were refused to pledge life long abstinence from sexual relations. As a result, the st. Francis church was expelled in 1996, which was a year prior to pastor dawns order nation. St. Francis never faltered and continued to celebrate diversity. Eventually, the elca voted to make key changes more friendly to lesbian, gay and transgender clergy in 2010. St. Francis was to rejoin the sin odd. In recognition of this history, it is my great pleasure to acknowledge is the francis Lutheran Church. Id like to give randy tomba, a chance to speak. Thank you, supervisor mandelman, for your well researched words. I appreciate that. And for your decade of serving at st. Francis on sunday morning once a month. And thank you, board of supervisors, for this commendation. Im offering words of thanks on behalf of the people of st. Francis Lutheran Church, our Church Council and pastor. Im especially pleased to say thank you for the commendation on behalf of the many hardworking volunteers to provide the get it done enthusiasm to make our food programs as successful as they are. In addition to feeding eggs, oatmeal, fresh fruit, crowd pleasing cup cakes, big shoutout to kara, she donates every week to the program and coffee to 100 guests, st. Francis hosts a food bank on tuesday. Serving approximately 150 families. Also on wednesday, our longstanding Senior Center provides a program and a threecourse lunch for 2 to 40 seniors. And on saturday, as raphael said, our volunteers prepare for the sunday breakfast using food brought to us by food runners and other fantastic organizations from mainly trader joes these days. We get amazing, Amazing Things theyve donated. Additionally throughout the week, our church opens the door to 12step programs and other group meetings. St. Francis is a lovely Modest Church located at 152 Church Street, across from the safeway. And it was built by the danish immigrants at the beginning of this century. During the great earthquake, as raphael said, it was partially built. So there are wonderful stories about the programs that happened on the site in the partially completed building to serve the refugees of the earthquake. But then it was educated at the end of the year and so the congregation really got their act together despite the earthquake and completed the building. In 1964, the danish congregation of st. Francis and the finnish congratulations of the church, one block away, merged and became st. Francis, naming the church after the patron saint. In the belcher street property, we have the friends of st. Francis, where 38 children are preschooled. And thats been going on for over 40 years, since the churches merged. Then the significant moment that raphael mentioned was the calling of ruth and phyllis, along with jeff johnson in 1989. And 20 years later, after a lot of work, that prohibition was overturned by our national senate. Were a small congregation. We stretch our limits in every way. We welcome all who walk through our doors. Please come and visit us to volunteer, participate in one of the programs or attend worship in our beautiful sanctuary. Bathe in the warm light of 100yearold stained glass. In the spirit of gift, giving, service, and faith of all those who have come before us in the 120 years. Thank you very much. This is on behalf of supervisor peskin and myself, although i know supervisor peskin will want to chime in when i finish, but it is truly a privilege to honor the legendary mime troupe on their 60th anniversary. For the past 60 years, the San Francisco mime troupe has inspired, educated audiences throughs the city, across the country and around the globe with this brand of revolutionary theater. They have received local and national awards, including nomination for this years Treasure Island. And theyre studying in universities and colleges inspiring the next generation of activist artists. Mime troupe veterans including performers and writers on broadway, television and film, as well as founders of theaters like the pickle, family circus, heart beat ensemble and countless more. But more importantly for the last 60 years, the troupe has always stood for speaking truth to power. And has brought its working class analysis to the largest possible audience for a price every worker can afford. Free. The troupes began in 1959 when founding director davis staged performances in San Francisco lot of and basement. Inspired by the italian renaissance i dont know how to pronounce marketplace comedy, the troupe began their own tradition, offering shows in the park as they still do every summer. Launching their annual circus on memorial day and wrapping up the season there on labor day. Since going becoming a collective in 1970, theyve done every manner of experimental theater, drama, spy, sitcoms and cartoon acceptics. Just to clarify, the mime troupe does not do pant mime. They are bent on making you laugh, while at the same time, exposing the truth behind the issues of our time. Congratulations on a remarkable 60 years and thank you for all you do to enhance the cultural and political fabric of our city. I hope you are with us for many, many years to come. Congratulations. [applause] supervisor peskin i will only add a few brief words. Ive been around almost as long as the mime troupe and was raised on that in berkeley where i grew up and later in washington square, where you were not able to have a show because were putting in a new irrigation system, but it will be back. And beloved by the community. Youve had countless shows, all of which have been very impactful, but none morel havent to this board of supervisors than the one you did this summer on Treasure Island. This is not something you can get a dvd for, so if you missed it, youre out of luck. But it really spoke to all of the things that this city at every level has managed to ignore relative to radiological contamination and the way were treating disadvantaged people on the island. Thank you for having the guts to do that. Thank you very much. And in thanks, were going to do a short scene from Treasure Island for you. Now, the show was about, like you said, about housing and about corruption and about race and about environmental problems. All of those things, so many communities around the country and the world are facing. In this particular show, we decided to do a takeoff on Treasure Island. Only in our play, the pirates were the developers. People who sweep into every community, snatch up the gold, make promises and sail off into the sunset leaving devastated communities. Now in this particular scene were going to be doing, lizzie here. Shell be playing jill hawkins, who is the Deputy Director of housing of district 6. And she has come out to Treasure Island because shes found things, whispers about the problem about the developments out there. She runs into me. Old benny gun. A crazy old exdeveloper pilot who lives under the offramp of the bay bridge with his bats and questionable drinks ive snatched her out of the meeting and taken her back to me cave to talk to her about what really is going on. I know why youve come. Because of the pirates. Pirates . How did you know . Its where they all come, contractors, surveyors, to clear the decks. Ive seen it all before. Seen what . It wasnt like this always. Living under an offramp. I was one of them. You were a pirate. Not at first, no, no, government man i used to be. Stars in the eyes, thinking i could make things better. What was your job . Environmental protection. I was ordered to monitor the cleanup of an old navy base in Hunters Point in San Francisco. The Hunters Point Naval Shipyard . Even ive heard of that. The chemicals, the heavy metal, the radiation. I told you before, quit talking to them. I have to give them background. Thats what im here for. Sorry. Radiation. Radiation. Loads of it. Ships hot with all the nuclear in the south pacific. The families and the neighborhoods starting getting sick and we didnt tell them why. You lied to them. I was just a Deputy Director. But one night, a man came in to me cubicle and said he had information about me, said he was going to ruin me unless i signed off on test results saying everything was safe. What was the mans name . His name was flynn. The navy, they were glad to have the mess off their hands. And the city was glad to redevelop the area. What happened to the people who lived there . Asthma, cancer clusters. Oh, but those views, breath taking. And so close to downtown. But the developers, they had plans. Got the city to declare urban blight. The sick and the old. And now its just condos for rich tekkies. How would you convince anyone to move to an area that is radioactive. Easy we didnt tell them. Just like were not telling them about Treasure Island Treasure Island. Another poisoned navy base, plutonium. There are spots on the island that will give you an hour a dose of radium five times what they get in a year. But the navy. Yes, it was their own contractors found it. But the navy, oh, they buried the results. Just like they buried the contamination. They say we plan to build 8,000 units of housing. Paradise. Radioactive island. That liquifies during the earthquake. It will be under water in a few years. Under water . 2 of Climate Change and the whole island is submerged. And all that radiation is released into the bay. But if the developers know you think they care . Theyre pirates i couldnt take it any more. I was going to tell the truth, but thats when flynn stabbed me in the portfolio, kicked me overboard. There is a bridge right my own. Every day i think about it. Every night i dream about it. What i did to those families. And how i damned me self. [applause] president yee thank you for the wonderful performance. Supervisor fewer, youre next. Supervisor fewer thank you very much, president yee. Id like to call up to the podium wanik. Colleagues, today, i would like to honor the life of phil arnold, loving husband and father who passed away september 6, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. You may remember that supervisor peskin adjourned the meeting last week in memory of phil. Today, i would like to present a posthumous proclamation for phil arnold. He born to marine and harold arnold. After growing up in long beach, he received a degree in history from Stanford University and his doctorate from the university of wisconsin at madison, before settling in San Francisco. Phil wore many hats over the three decades he served the city and county of San Francisco. Debt administrator, abilitying director of the San Francisco zoo, assistant general manager of the parks and Rec Department and c. F. O. Of the Human Services agency. He served as treasurer and chair of the board of directors and commissioner for the Housing Authority and member of the Parks Alliance board of directors. Throughout his career, phil maintained a steadfast commitment to preserving open spaces. To quote him, improving things people cant see, so what they do see works. Whether he was putting together bonds to repair the San Francisco zoo to prevent similar damage. Creating and operating reserve for the bay area ridge trail council. Or acquiring hilltop throughout the city to preserve views from Public Access for Public Access, phil was steadfast and meticulous in doing what he believed was right. His legacy lies in the intersection of financial planning, social justice and environmental preservation. Which is why friends and colleagues describe him as extraordinary. The highest model of what Public Service can and should be. And the ultimate renaissance man. Phil influenced countless careers with his leadership, poise, selfsacrifice and creative problem solving and remained firmly grounded in his principles. The city and county of San Francisco would not be the same without him. Phil is survived by his wife of 33 years, monique. His brother steve, daughters misha and sons, paul and daniel and countless other family members, friends and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing him. Thank you to my colleagues joining me, and i invite his wife, monique to share words with us. Thank you very much. Good afternoon, president yee, members of the board of supervisors. With me is my daughter adrian who works for the department of emergency management. And thank you supervisor fewer for calendaring their time to recognize phil for his many years of Public Service. After graduate school, phil worked for the Wisconsin Legislature as a policy analyst in the criminal justice field. He was hired by harvey rose and worked there for almost a decade as an analyst and within that work he headed up numerous studies to reduce jail overcrowding and to reform youth guidance center. Rec park, he authorized the bond issues as was stated by supervisor fewer and he was very interested in repairing underground infrastructure and not just those things we can see. At puc, phil was the lead author and planner for the puc master plan that resulted in our rebuilding of the sewer system in the city. And at Human Services, which is probably the job that he loved the most, allowed him to use his management skills to help the disenfranchised and the poor. And with his leadership, the city expanded food stamp, child care, access to medical insurance and housing for the poor. He was a gifted and hardworking and very humble public servant. As supervisor said, he did join nonprofit boards and was a member of the Housing Authority for a number of years. But beyond his good year for the public, he was a sailor in the bay, a life long swimmer and runner. Lots of time spent hiking and biking the trail of the open space within the bay area. But most importantly, phil was a loving husband, father and friend to many. Largely due to phils example, our children have found their life calling by working the land, teaching elementary school, working for the city, and studying public health. Phil and i opened our home, our hearts and our time to our family and friends. We enjoyed and were always proud to be san franciscans. We lived here since 1987. And we intended to live a long time and to become very old together in a city that we loved with our family and friends nearby. Unfortunately, thats not possible, but the clan will keep phils drive for improving Public Service. And we collectively will pass on his passion for making the world a better place. Thank you. Good afternoon, president yee, supervisor fewer, members of the board of supervisors and everyone else who has been so instrumental in recognizing my fathers accomplishments over his life. Im speaking from the perspective of one of phils children and i can say with utmost confidence that my mom was correct about what a great dad he was. My very first job in high school was an Administrative Assistant working for the board of supervisors at my fathers. And while all my friends were getting employee discounts from their jobs in retail, i was putting together briefing binders every tuesday and responding to constituent concerns. And my father was a constant reminder that the most important and impactful thing that a person can do is dedicate his or her life to serving the public. So here i am, a city employee, doing everything i can to continue his legacy. Over the past couple of weeks ive thought and spoken as my mom did, a lot about phils humility. He did lots for others and expected nothing. Channelling him, i want to thank the city and county of San Francisco as a whole. The board of supervisors, the mayor areas office, parks and rec, and Human Services agency for supporting our families so much over the past year. Through both their words and their actions. In particular, i want to thank the partnership between the recreation and Parks Department and the bay area ridge trail, who were able to renovate the oak wood lands trail and rename it the phil arnold trail. I look forward to teaching my future children what it means to serve their Community Like their grandfather did. He really was an amazing man. And in matthew 13, jesus gave a parable, now its true that a parable doesnt have precise interpretation to every point in the parable. Its a general story. And the theme in matthew 13 is obvious if you get the flavor of it and read it. Judgment day is coming. Good afternoon. My name is tony, president of teamsters local 665. Im here to speak to item 47. The resolution urging the sfmta consider compliance with ab awarding permits. I want to thank supervisor yee for introducing it and all 11 supervisors for cosponsoring this resolution. Along with my sister local teamsters, we represent thousands of workers for employers who have interests with the sfmta. These include shuttle bus drivers, parking lot attendants, circling marking meter workers and more. The key thing that ties them together, theyre hired as direct employees of the company, not as independent contractors or temp workers. Employees have the legal right to join in a union and collective bargaining. That was also the point of the other labor bills to prevent workers from being hired as perma temps, which is another thing we all need to watch out with the growth of Companies Like blue crew, that supervisor peskin mentioned earlier. Thats why this resolution is important, because it says that the sfmta should be using its purchasing an permitting power to create good jobs. We encourage your yes vote. Thank you. President yee thank you. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon, president yee, and supervisors. My name is john. Ive address this had body before addressed this body before about Animal Rights generally. Were here today specifically because six activists, myself included, currently face felony charges in Sonoma County to connection with investigations and rescues of factory farms in that county. The background is that we spent years documenting criminal animal abuse at facilities across the state. And we delivered that documentation to the California Department of food and agriculture, District Attorney, the sheriff, animal control and other agencies. And all refused to take action. And what they told us was that these facilities are regulated and they follow industry standards. And, therefore, there was nothing they could do. But the law in the state is very clear that animal abuse, neglect and torment is illegal, regardless of whether it follows industry standards. And on the advice of counsel, including a professor of criminal law, we went to several facilities in Sonoma County, those with supply residents of San Francisco, and we documented the conditions. When we found animals who were on the verge of death due to starvation or injury or disease, we either removed them or attempted to remove them to get them care and place them on a sanctuary where they could recover. For that, were currently facing felony charges. [bell ringing] the peace and Justice Commission of the Berkeley City Council has already passed a resolution supporting nonviolent activist who expose factory farms and disavowing the prosecution of us and we would be deeply grateful if this body would consider a similar resolution. And other members of the committee. I wanted to talk today about regulations. Industry regulations are very important, but we must not confuse them with standards. If we allow industry regulations to become industry standards, our society will stagnate. Injustice will flourish. These felony charges are no more than attempts to silence. I know from the history of San Francisco that this city does not support the suppression of peaceful voices. I know that here in San Francisco, we are better than this. So please join us in condemning these charges and supporting the right to rescue abused and neglected an matters. Animals. Thank you so much. President yee thank you. Hi there, my name is brianna. I have two questions to ask. My first question is, when you look around this room and you see all these blue shirts filling up the stands, do you see a Diverse Group of compassionate people or do you see criminals . California has strict animal cruelty laws like penal code 597. Which outlaws the torment and neglect of animals. 597e permits anyone who is aware of animal abuse to enter the location in which theyre being abused and provide them care. Penal code 597 also states that animal abuse is chargeable with misdemeanors and felonies. So why is it that those who are rescuing animals and raising awareness on their plight being charged with felonies and misdemeanors instead . Were here to encourage you to support the right to rescue. I am someone who is facing potential felony charges and its not fair that myself or anyone else be punished for doing the right thing. We have sent footage of animal abuse in these facilities to everyone in authority. In july, nearly two dozen of us, myself included, walked a brutal 150 miles from right outside these doors in San Francisco to the state capital in sacramento. And we asked the attorney general [bell ringing] and the governor to support the right to rescue. We are extremely dedicated and well not stop until there is justice for up. For all. My second question here, is will you support the right to rescue or support animal abuse . Thank you. President yee next speaker, please. My name is im an Animal Rights activist. I think animal and nature is the best gift that is given to us. Animals are sensitive beings just like the ones in our homes like cats and dogs. So all of them have feelings. They suffer, they value their lives. As an organizer, we investigated commercial operations, reported animal cruelty violations, and officials took no action. We are fortunate enough to live in california. A progressive state like the city of San Francisco. That has strict animal cruelty laws that protect animals in commercial operations, but they are being violated. We love animals. Respect their rights to live happy, safe and free. Please support the right to rescue and persecution of animal abusers, not Animal Rights. Thank you very much. President yee thank you. Next speaker, please. Hello, everyone. My name is molly epstein. When you think about systems of oppression, maybe you think about systems that directly affect you. Maybe you think about racism, sexism, because theyre so commonly talked about socially and throughout politics. We are asking you not only to remember species, the oppression that benefits humans and disadvantages all nonhuman animals, but to fight against the system. It is critical to remember that all systems of oppression intersect and to fight against some while working to uphold others is counterproductive. Despite me having a disability, my body being different, i would hope you agree my body has value. Despite nonhuman animals, whether they have fur, feathers, wings or scale, they all have value and should have the right to live without fear, without suffering and dying at the hands of humans. Other social Justice Movements wouldnt have been as successful without the support of allies. And the Animal Rights movement is a movement of all allies. We need you, but more importantly, the animals need you. San francisco is one of the most progressive cities in the country. Weve seen it as a critical location for Justice Social movements, whether its the Lgbtq Movement or the female rights movement. Its time to keep moving forward [bell ringing] sorry. Good afternoon, board of supervisors. Im also someone who is facing felony charges up to almost a decade in prison and deportation for helping animals. All of us are here today to ask you to pass a resolution in support of the right to rescue. This is important because its going to send a strong signal to District Attorney in Sonoma County and other prosecutors that prosecuting activists, repressing activists for the sake of profit for these giant corporations like amazon, is not okay. When we first met with an attorney after our arrest, our attorney, who had worked in Sonoma County for decades said there is no way anyone is getting felony charges for this. Ive never seen anybody get serious charges for action like this. Yet i got a letter in the mail saying im getting seven felony charges. I would ask all of to you take a stand against the repression, corporate greed and speak up for all of the animals that need your help. President yee thank you. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon. We live in a state where we can break a strangers window to rescue a dog or a cat from heat stroke. Please support the right to rescue pigs, chickens, cows, turkeys, sea life. And all neglected basic food and water. How can we live in a world where we give animals fundamental rights to a live a life free of harm, but denial there is a same right. There is no difference between a dog, cat, chicken, a cow, a pig or a fish. They all feel pain. They all feel love. Just like you and me. The right to rescue is simply granting the fundamental rights to animals who so desperately need it and we hope youre on board to helping our fellow earth lings in bringing more peace into our current world that needs more peace. That needs more love. That needs more compassion. We need to do a lot better and today we hope you hear our words to help and not criminalize and punish us for doing the right thing. According to california penal code, 597e, thats animals can be tended to by an individual. Please recommend charging these farms where theyre not getting proper care and being abused. Undercover investigations have proved the criminality taking place in many facilities, but nothing has been done by those in power. Your city has led the way in many oppressed. Good afternoon, president yee and members of the board. My name is anastasia. Im a bay area resident and investigator with direct action everywhere. As an investigator, i have seen firsthand and documented numerous cases of criminal animal cruelty. In all these cases, none of the reports have been addressed. Actually, ive been arrested and am current facing charges just for trying to bring attention to this issue and rescue animals. Im here today to ask this board to pass a resolution in support of the right to rescue animals and uphold the animal cruelty laws in the state of california. President yee thank you. Good afternoon, board of supervisors. My name is samantha. Im a resident of Sonoma County. Im here today on behalf of the people of sonoma to implore you to support the right to rescue and to denounce the prosecution of peaceful whistleblowers. Theyre seeking justice for the criminal conditions found there. Activists have been charged with multiple felonies for exposing flagrant disregard of california state law in the form of hideous neglect. In california, we have the legal right to save animals from death by abuse and neglect. And dying of neglect is exactly how we found rose, a chicken, suffering in sonoma. Yet, her rescuers are facing up to a decade in prison for saving her life. By supporting the right to rescue, abusers and law breakers will be held to the standard that the state of california has already set for them. Thank you. President yee thank you. Next speaker. Hello. My name is leslie goldberg. In San Francisco, many of the foods that are consumed here, the cheese, the meat, the eggs, are produced on farms in Sonoma County. And many of these farms are labelled humane. And i can tell you, as a person who has been on some of these farms, theyre anything but humane. Animals are trapped in filthy sheds where they get no access to the outdoors. Injured and sick animals have no access to veterinarian care. And smaller animals and weaker animals end up with no access to food or water. Its a horrific situation. And our investigators have gone in and documented these conditions. And we have reported over and over again the authorities, these terrible conditions, but they do nothing. And finally, we decided to go ahead and rescue some of these animals, some of these sick, injured, neardeath animals. Instead of the authorities the authorities, instead of investigating the farms that perpetrated these crimes, they arrested the activists. We have fully six people who are facing multiple felonies. Seven felonies apiece for these actions. And this is reprehensible and its unacceptable [bell ringing] and its not consistent with california law. Im here to ask you to please support this resolution to affirm the right to rescue and to condemn this actually ridiculous prosecution of nonviolent lawabiding citizens. Thank you. Today i come to you not as a citizen of San Francisco, not as a californian, but as an earth ling sharing this planet with our animal friends. We have witnessed firsthand on how factory farming operations are depriving our animal friends of basic needs, food, water and sunlight. A year ago we were able to rescue one of the animals. Rose the chicken was in Poor Condition and the authorities allowed us to help her. A year later, rose is a live and well thank you to the rescue efforts of our activist. Despite our heroic actions to save roses life, our activists are facing felony charges. We come to you today to ask for your support in the right to rescue these neglected, tortured animals from the inhumane conditions where they spend their entire lives.
