A San Antonio police officer who struck and Tased a suspect is charged with assault and abuse of authority — a rare instance of an officer being criminally prosecuted for on-duty use of force.
Officer Marshall Shepard, 29, is accused in a grand jury indictment of “knowingly and recklessly” injuring a suspect after a traffic-related call on the Northeast Side on May 8.
Shepard allegedly hit the suspect in the face repeatedly. He is also accused of ramming the suspect against a vehicle and using a Taser on him twice.
