Two LGBTQ Latino professionals who one day wish to work at the highest levels of the federal government have been selected by the local Latinx LGBTQ organization LULAC Lambda to receive scholarships that will help them pursue advanced degrees.
For the fourth year in a row, LULAC Lambda, one of 1,000 chapters across the United States affiliated with the League of United Latin American Citizens, is providing scholarships to highly-qualified LGBTQ Latinx students seeking to further their education. The scholarships are intended to help deserving scholars achieve their pursue bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctorate without taking on a substantial debt burden. ....

Bikes and parts are proving hard to find for New Braunfels shops


Bike sales rose 78% during the pandemic, according to NPD Group, a market-research firm. 
That climb in demand has left shops with backorders on assembled bikes and parts that are expected to last into the fall and perhaps even to next year.

The Chain Link bike technician Erik Rodriguez said about 95% of the bikes in store are in for repairs. 
He said they get about five or six repairs a day and then five to six customers are coming in a day to pick up their repaired bikes.  ....

HAVANA (Reuters) -Cuba blamed historic protests that took place over the weekend on U.S. economic asphyxiation and detained some of the highest profile activists, while the Biden administration said it supported the Cuban people s right to demonstrate.
The streets of Havana were quiet on Monday, although there was a heavy police presence and the capitol building, where more than a thousand had congregated the day before, was cordoned off. Outages in mobile internet - the only way many Cubans have of accessing the web - were frequent. ....

Chanting “freedom” and calling for President Miguel Diaz-Canel to step down, thousands of Cubans joined street protests from Havana to Santiago on Sunday in the biggest anti-government demonstrations on the Communist-run island in decades.
At least 80 protesters, activists, and independent journalists had been detained nationwide since Sunday, according to exiled rights group Cubalex. ....
