On the 18th day of March 2022, Robert Charles Sharkey passed from this earthly life into that eternal life promised to all who believe and have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Robert was born in Duluth, MN on August 15th, 1934, to his parents, Charles William and Ella Sharkey, Robert being the eldest of two sons. Robert attended Grant Elementary, Washington Middle School, and Central High School all in Duluth, graduating in 1952. He later graduated from the Minnesota School of Banking at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN in 1972. He was employed by the Mobil Oil Corporation as an area representative in North Dakota and Montana until 1967. From 1967 through 1987, Robert was employed by the Western National Bank of Duluth as a Commercial Loan Officer, retiring on June 2nd, 1987, following 20 years of Commercial Finance. He was then hired as a Banking Consultant from 1987 through 2002. Robert served as the project Administrator for Faith Haven Senior Apartments for over 25 years and served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Oneota Cemetery Association for over 35 years. Robert was past President of the Western Area Business and Civic Club, and a member of the Duluth Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a 3rd Degree member of Euclid Masonic Lodge #198 in Duluth and as a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Duluth, having been appointed as a KCCH (Knight Commander of the Court of Honor) and worked as the Financial Officer for that organization. Robert served in the US National Guard 598th for 13 years and retired as a Battalion Communications Chief. He was an avid Private Pilot since his first solo flight in July of 1951. He was a member and a flight leader for the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) having flown over 335 Missions with Young Eagles, ages 7 through 17. Robert earned the FAA (Federal Aviation Agency) Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award in 2014 for over 50 consecutive years of professionalism and safety as a pilot.
