Radios could help residents stay aware ahead of debris flows [Santa Cruz Sentinel, Calif.]
Jan. 12—BONNY DOON — The woods surrounding Bonny Doon Church exhale condensation as morning light filters through tree canopy. Licked by fire, pines and redwoods are painted black, telling the story of the CZU Lightning Complex fire, which came close to the community haven but did not burn the church.
Sue Cannon, a church leader, is waiting in the parking lot for a radio drop-off from Santa Cruz nonprofit Community bridges. Cannon and others are hopeful that weather radios could help Santa Cruz Mountain residents who live in high-risk debris flow areas to be more prepared this winter.
