Overlooked No More: William B. Gould, escaped slave and Civi

William B. Gould escaped enslavement in North Carolina during the Civil War, joined the Navy and wrote of his adventures in a diary. The diary was discovered by a great-grandson, who had it published. The story was written as part of The New York Times "Overlooked No More" series, obituaries of remarkable people whose deaths, beginning in 1851, went unreported in The Times.
