TOMS RIVER - A Lakewood woman whose baby daughter died after being left unattended in a hot car for hours pleaded guilty on Friday to endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Chaya Shurkin, 27, was charged in connection with the May 6, 2019 tragedy. The baby had been left alone with the car turned off for about two-and-a-half hours, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a news release.
Prosecutors will not seek jail time for Shurkin and instead recommend a term of probation at her sentencing, which is scheduled for July 23, Billhimer said.
