View Comments In a packed City Hall Wednesday evening, Cocoa welcomed its new chief of police and the first Black head of the department, former Jacksonville Sheriff's Office lieutenant Evander Collier IV. Collier spoke to the public and media about his excitement to join the agency of a combined 110 sworn officers and civilian employees. “I’m really thrilled to death. I’ve prepared my entire career as a law enforcement officer for a day like today. With the goal of one day of leading an agency like that in Cocoa," Collier said. “The more I've talked to people in the community, I get more and more excited about this opportunity. The people here in Cocoa really care about the city," he added.
