plus, we just got some exclusive video a president widen and his former boss at a fundraiser last night sounding off on the supreme court. i will ask congressman jamie raskin about all the ways in which the rule of law is in trouble. and some thoughts from me about the aftermath of hunter biden's conviction and everything it tells us about his dad. . okay. here is a really important thing to remember. donald trump can't take a wrecking ball to american democracy all by himself. he will need lots of help to do it. he will need help from people in power who don't care about anything but pleasing him. and right now, we can see how much help he will get if he manages to get back to the white house. just a couple of days ago, trump made his first trip back to capitol hill since his supporters mobbed it on january 6. brutally attacking police officers and threatening to hang the vice president. how do you think who put all their lives in danger? well, obviously, with a birthday cake, handles and all. along with a good amount of funding, and praise for him. >> he said very complimentary things about all of us. he said, i am doing a very good job. we are grateful for that. >> he saw me in there and he was like, hello, marjorie. he is always so sweet and recognizes me. >> he is so sweet? he literally sent an angry violent mob to your place of work not that long ago. lawmakers were forced to run for their lives and hide under chairs with gas masks on. and then the guy who sent the mob there came back to the scene of the crime and ranted, by the way, also about hannibal lector and taylor swift. that really happened. he trashed the host city of the republican convention. and the only reaction from all these members is, he noticed me. he said i am doing a good job. he is so sweet. they know who was responsible for the attempted coup three years ago, and they know that, because they said so. and now, it's like none of that ever happened. >> there is no question that president trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. >> trump and i, we have had a journey. i hate it being this way. all i can say is, count me out. enough is enough. >> he was the team captain and we were glad he was leading us. it was the single best meeting i've ever seen between republican senators and president trump. >> when you watch it like that side-by-side, their evolution is still pretty shocking. all of that valid outrage back in 2021 you saw from them and many of their members have turned into a handshake and a soft smile and of course, blindly following their team captain for the november election. as former congresswoman liz cheney put it, they know he's a danger to the republic and continue to enable him. but here's the thing. they have long enabled him. the scary thing this time around is that most republicans aren't just enabling him by rolling their eyes and looking away all of his bad behavior. this time, they are actively trying to weapon nice the system on his behalf. house republicans emerged from the meeting vowing to fight even harder to protect trump from various prosecutors pursuing him. he pledged to issue subpoenas for law enforcement agencies that investigate him. he double down on that same quote. the house has a critical role to utilize the power of the subpoena, the power of the first. trump is going to be the masthead of that effort in the coming months. as reported, trump has been obsessed in recent weeks with harnessing the powers of congress to fight on his own behalf following his felony conviction. johnson, surprise surprise, reportedly sympathized with trump's frustration. look. i don't have any illusions, nor should you, of what this party has become. are too many of them seem to be willing to excuse away almost anything, even a violent insurrection. right now, they are not just ignoring antics using. this time, they are actively putting their hands up and telling them they are ready and willing to help them. joining me now is democratic senator cory booker of new jersey. thank you so much for joining me. this week, donald trump made his first trip to capitol hill since the insurrection, which is startling, i think, for a lot of us. and i can't really get the image out of my head of mitch mcconnell -- who said trump committed a disgraceful dereliction of duty during january 6th, and also the others who had similar sentiments at the moment. i just want to ask you how you digested that, especially given how many of these senators felt around him around the events of january 6. >> it's interesting you saying this in this national forum, but in the private conversations of editors, we all remember how dark that day was. that the world's most deliberative body in a sacred civic space had to be chased out, literally running for their lives to avoid a mob that was chanting murderous chance. it ultimately led to the death of multiple police officers. and the person who incited it all. don't take my word for it again. take republicans time after time condemning what donald trump did. he was on trial for it. he was impeached. numbers of republicans voted to convict him for what he did. he showed back up at the scene of the crime, and people who spoke very passionately about the president of the united states really undermining the dignity of the office and inspiring a riot showed back up to the capital. it brought a lot of that pain back. and talking to some capitol police officers who went through on that day. who showed the greatest of honor, willing to put their lives on the line. and to have donald trump now be the person they are escorting to and fro is painful. >> i'm sure it was. i'm sure it brought back so many memories to so many people who witnessed that and were there for january 6th. i think there was a lot that happened this week. you lived it, and i'm sure you are aware of the controversy that broke out over some comments that trump made about milwaukee, which is hosting the republican convention coming up later this summer. he reportedly called milwaukee a horrible city. he called washington a filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment. he has called chicago worse than afghanistan. he once called baltimore a disgusting rat and rodent infested mass. these are america's cities. what do you make of his comments, and what is driving it? >> this is the spirit of the man. this is a person who doesn't love america. he demeans and degrades some of our most precious and beloved places. he demeans and degrades the people that live there. the people that dedicate themselves to teaching in our schools. firefighters, the police officers, the civic engineers. so many of the cities -- i was a mayor of one -- went through decades of losing population and losing investment. but there are cities all over america that are standing up, businesses moving back to city centers. really exciting stories of promise. we don't need a president that punches down, that beats up, that puts us against each other and degrades people and places. it is just disheartening to see one of our major political parties elevating someone who doesn't celebrate america. the rhetoric of ronald reagan, of george bush senior. i mean, they were about celebrating this country, lifting this country up and seeing it for what it is. i moved into a really tough neighborhood and i was sobered by some of the challenges that they were going through the time and the neighborhood, and this great leader challenged me and said, you need to understand something. the world you see outside of you is a reflection of what you have in right of you. and she really challenged me to open my eyes and see the potential and the possibility, hope and the dignity of the people, and i will never forget that. and donald trump is really telling up the story of who he is, not the story of who milwaukee is. >> such a good point. one of the things that's challenging about the politics, senator, there's just a lot to run against here. i wanted to ask you about trump's conviction in the politics surrounding that, as well. j.b. pritzker said this about the conviction. this is also what i believe is important to most americans, particularly those in the middle were ultimately going to decide this election. there's a lot to run against. you share the belief that trump being a convicted felon to be the most important factor for undecided voters at this point? >> i'm not sure. i'm obviously looking a focus group details. the evidence in most people the most is the extraordinary achievements of the biden administration that most americans aren't aware of. this is a president that has a pathway, but i'm going to be one of those guys campaigning all over this country, not only speaking to the bright light and positive accomplishments of this president, but i'm going to remind people of who donald trump is, in his own words or his own actions. and yeah, not only has he had 34 felony convictions, he is a convicted felon. but he has two pending federal felony indictments, both for interfering with an election, as well as how he has handled classified documents that endanger our national security. he's got a state felony conviction in georgia, but that's not all. this guy has also been found by the new york supreme court, him and his organization, have been found liable and find $450 million. it's despicable and disgusting things he did to e. jean carroll. he's been fined tens of millions of dollars, even as charitable activities were exposed by a judge to have been corrupt. and for his own personal benefit. he was forced to disband his charitable activities and pay millions of dollars. everything that he has done and every aspect of his life, business, personal, charity -- has now been by federal and criminal courts -- has been resoundingly condemned, and he has had to pay out millions of dollars in fines. this is a pattern and practice of who he is. he brought the greatest shame to our country. the only time our capital has ever been taken over by a mob or violence was in 1814 due to the war of 1812. and again, under his presidency. to me, it's both. it's understanding the truth and successes of a president who served under one of the most difficult terms of service, took over the country when it was on the brink after donald trump's presidency and has brought us some of the greatest success, especially relative to other nations. best economy on the globe right now in terms of economic growth. and then compared to a donald trump was, what donald trump is done in every area of his life. >> you said in the judiciary committee -- i wanted to just ask you about the supreme court. it seems like every week -- it seems like it's growing in recent weeks, there's a new set scandal. there were the tapes released this week of samuel alito sounding awfully partisan, i think it's fair to say. your committee also reported this week that justice clarence thomas took more trips on a mega-donor's private plane. i could go on, but i will stop there. this feels a bit like a crisis to me. would you like to see the senate hear from some of these justices directly, or would you be open to subpoenaing them? >> a lot of these billionaires and these activists who have been trying for decades to capture our courts and have been obviously successful in influencing them, these billionaires were taking people on these trips, folks like harlan crow and others, we've been trying to call them before the senate. the fact that this has fallen into the traditional partisan left right divide is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. this isn't about partisanship. this is the fact that the highest court in the land should have the highest ethical standards, not the lowest. the fact that senators in congress have higher ethical center standards on our behavior than the supreme court, which literally, the whole idea of avoiding appearances of impropriety is literally written into judicial ethics. we've had people like clarence thomas receiving millions of dollars worth of perks and benefits from billionaires who have strong right ideological who have deep investments of outcomes of court cases. this is absolutely unacceptable and should be resoundingly condemned by all americans. this is a crisis of our institution, and the justices involved were not even willing to recuse themselves, like in the case of alito, it is just shameful. and so we are going to continue to speak out about this. we are going to continue to call out the truth and to try to use the judiciary committee, ultimately, to bring about the change that all americans on both sides of the aisle really do want, which is that our highest court in the land should have our highest ethical standards and judges that abide by it. >> they are continuing to handout opinions, right? i mean, on friday, they overturned a ban on bump stocks, which are used to make a semi automatic rifle fire more quickly. so there's a bit of a credibility. there is a credibility crisis here. also clearly a bit of an extremism crisis. you've done so much and spoken out about gun violence. to that decision on bump stocks. >> the worst mass shooting in american history, all of our country's history, was a man with a bump stock. and in over 11 minutes, fired over 1000 rounds. that bump stock allowed him to convert his weapon into a mass firing, multiple round shooting gun that wounded over 500 people, killing 58. it was a horrific incident. my mom lives in vegas, and the terror and the horror of that incident compelled president trump to call for the band of bump stocks. i think that soda mayor in her dissent was right. it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it looks like a duck. it is like converting a weapon to effectively a machine gun, which are banned. we have a supreme court so out of step with our country. this is not controversial. people on the left and right, a republican president, called for the end of these devices in the wake of the worst mass shooting in our country. the horrors that it brought about. it should not be allowed in our nation. >> no question. i know every day i'm care that when my kids are sent off to school, given how available these weapons are and bump stocks across the country. i want to ask you about ivf, because this has become an issue that, unfortunately, it shouldn't be controversial. so many women are able to have children because of it. you introduced a bill this week to codify ivf protections and got a vote this week and it failed. i think it's important to restate how popular ivf is. all but two republicans voted against it. for people wondering out there, what the heck is going on, why would anyone oppose this? why did all these republicans vote against your bill? >> when it comes to women's reproductive rights, at large in our nation, democrats, republicans, and independents all agree that this erosion of reproductive rights is unacceptable. a majority of americans believe in roe v wade. the majority of americans believe they should have access to method for stone, and the majority of americans overwhelmingly, upwards of 90%, say that we should have access to ivf. our legislation was very basic. it said, number one, we need to protect these rights at a time that extremist groups and legislatures are trying to take them away. number two, ivf, which is very expensive, the miracle of i having children should not be accessible only to the wealthy or two people they can find a way to pay the $10-$20,000, and that simply more insurance carriers should cover that. and then finally, in a way that should've compelled more people to stand up and some word it is that military folks who are going off to service after exposing themselves to conditions or injuries that could prevent them from having children, we should support our military personnel to freeze their sperm or their eggs and have access to this kind of treatment that can enable them and their families, often families that have five generations of military service, we should allow them to also be able to access the dream of having children should they need ivf. it's a basic bill, and this was stopped in its tracks. didn't even get a debate in congress by republicans who do not represent at large republican sentiment. we are in a crisis in this country. we are going to continue to stand up and fight for women's reproductive rights. it is really going to play out in this election. what kind of people are we going to elect? will you support the party and the people that are taking away individual freedoms and reproductive rights, or will he join together and protect them by electing people who will stand up for those reproductive rights? >> senator cory booker. that issue is on the minds of so many people out there. so important to remind people that ivf is at risk, your right to potentially birth control is at risk. it's not just jobs. i really appreciate all of the work you've done and the time you take them to talk to me about it. >> thank you so much. i look forward to seeing you again soon. congressman jamie raskin joins us here in the studio, and it is safe to say we have lots to talk about, including some forceful comments from president biden about the stakes of this election. have exclusive video of his fundraiser brooke with barack obama and we will play it in just a few minutes. at they can be subpoenaed. you made the point, that would require 60 votes in the senate for the subpoena to be enforced. what else could be done that isn't being done? >> they could be brought over to the senate with a democratic majority, but they would need 60 votes to force the subpoena. the real problem is that there is no binding ethics code on the supreme court, so the highest court in the land has the lowest ethical standards. they are the only judges in america that don't have a binding ethics code applied to them. we are working a lot of legislation that we hope will be able to get through in the next congress that would establish an inspector general over in the supreme court, which would probably clean things up rather quickly and create a binding ethics code. the thing that i am doing with this coming week, we got some interesting senate cross fires with us, is to say that the $50 gift ban that all members of congress live under, they basically just don't take gifts from lobbyists and people who want to influence should apply to the supreme court. the idea that clarence thomas got millions of dollars of gift as opposed to payments or bribes from a friend sending him all over the world on travel -- i mean, that's just -- >> it doesn't pass the smell test. a democratic majority, a 60 vote majority, could enforce it. is there anything you wish the senate would do now, given how outspoken you been? >> one thing that is very much on my mind is the leak of the dobbs opinion, which of course, destroyed roe versus wade. when it was first leaked, we heard a lot from chief justice roberts and jim jordan and from the right wing about how it's never happened before, and i agree with that. that's an unprecedented breach of supreme court protocol and procedure. they did a huge investigation, and then suddenly, they want radio silence. we learned a lot more about justice alito and justice thomas about how immersed they are and how immersed their families are in right-wing politics. i wonder why somebody just the whistle on that investigation. i've never thought it was going to be them. it wouldn't be that, but it very well could be justices alito and thomas, and we haven't heard anything from anybody, and we don't know -- you know, the reporters who got the leak, obviously no. >> that's interesting you think it could've been one of the conservatives. i wanted to ask you about another report shortly after trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts. he apparently picked up the phone to call speaker mike johnson and said we have to overturn this. according to the story, according to one person familiar with the conversation, johnson then conveyed he already believed the house had a role to play in addressing the predicament. the two of spoken multiple times. knowing the house as you do, what you expect? you expect mike johnson to try to do something here? i don't even know what that would be, what would it be? >> speaker johnson also invoked his personal relationship with a number of supreme court justices and underscored the importance of the supreme court superintending the case and reviewing what had happened in new york. i think in terms of the house it's self, what we are likely to see is them subpoenaing prosecutors from the state and local level like in new york or in georgia in order to intimidate them and harass them, which is what they've done before. it's an absolute assault on federalism and the independence of the states which they present to support, but of course, they don't when it comes to their overriding commanding imperative, which is just to support whatever donald trump once at any point. it's an amazing thing when you think about it that you have a guy who is poised to be a major party presidential nominee, and he hasn't called the speaker of the house to deal with the problem of healthcare costs or infrastructure -- >> or the border in a proactive way. >> it's all about his legal docket. and it has been like this for most of his adult life. he said more than 3000 cases, you know? >> it seemed like there had been a trend of our american oligarchs getting behind donald trump because he likes to make a deal and everything is transactional and quid pro quo. but to get in a room with him and to listen to hymns beak is to see how deranged and outlandish his speculations are right now. in addition to everything else that he, you know, stands for. for him, government is just a moneymaking opportunity for him and his family, and he converted the presidency into an instrument of private health enrichment. that is dramatically opposed to what joe biden is all about. the government has to be for the common good and public interest for everybody. the stakes are very clear in the election. >> this all comes in a week where there were some new york posts inaccurate and false reporting that suggested president biden was kind of stalling, he was paused, he was looking the other way. i feel like there's a double standard. you feel there's a double standard out there had a people are looking at their ages? >> there obviously is. i think the thing with joe biden is, he has been proven to be a man of integrity by more than a year and a half of the wild goose chase we sat through in the oversight committee, so they got no corruption on them. the public record is pretty amazing when you look at record unemployment in the country. the best unemployment in more than 50 years, whereas under donald trump, it was the worst unemployment we've had since herbert hoover. and the inflation rate is coming down. we have dramatic reductions in prescription drug prices. so they can't mess with him on substance, so they go after what they think is his achilles' heel, which is his age. and of course, you know, a lot of people see his age as, you know, something that helps to explain some of his wisdom and some of his compassion, the kind of compassion you see not just within his family, but out right of it. that compassion for people in his family becomes solidarity for everybody in the country who is struggling as well, and people around the world who want their human rights, who want peace, who want social justice. with trump, it is all about what will elevate and aggrandize trump and what will enrich trump? if you think you are in that inner circle, maybe you go with trump. but everyone outside of it, the party of democracy and freedom. >> i want to ask you about a double standard that i know is close to your heart, which is that around jared kushner. this is something i know you had a lot of interest in. this week, senator ron white launched an investigation into kushner's hedge fund and how he managed to rage so much money from foreign sources. what do you hope to learn from this investigation? >> is a constitutional issue. the founders of the country put it right in the constitution. nobody else in federal office can receive any kind of payment , emoluments, which means just money in office, or a title or a present from a king, a prince, a foreign state of any kind, whatever. jared kushner comes back with $2 billion from saudi arabia after being the middle east point guy. and so that creates a huge constitutional ethical and political problem for us, and we need to investigate it, and we need legislation to make sure that people are not turning our government into the kind of government that putin has got, which is basically a criminal state. >> yeah. jared kushner actually works in the white house, which i think is an important thing for people to remember. >> hunter biden never did, and he never made any deals with foreign governments. and he has gone through a federal trial under the u.s. department of justice. so if the doj is weapon nice against anybody, it looks more like democrats. there's a democratic congressman in texas, but nobody is whining about that. nobody's complaining about it, because our party believes in the rule of law and the system of justice we got. >> a great place to end on, congressman. happy father's day. up next, some thoughts from me about the dads in my life on this father's day. we will be right back. are you still struggling with your bra? plus, we just got some exclusive video a president widen and his former boss at a fundraiser last night sounding off on the supreme court. i will ask congressman jamie raskin about all the ways in which the rule of law is in trouble. and some thoughts from me about the aftermath of hunter biden's conviction and everything it tells us about his dad. . okay. here is a really important thing to remember. donald trump can't take a wrecking ball to american democracy all by himself. he will need lots of help to do it. he will need help from people in power who don't care about anything but pleasing him. and right now, we can see how much help he will get if he manages to get back to the white house. just a couple of days ago, trump made his first trip back to capitol hill since his supporters mobbed it on january 6. brutally attacking police officers and threatening to hang the vice president. how do you think who put all their lives in danger? well, obviously, with a birthday cake, handles and all. along with a good amount of funding, and praise for him. >> he said very complimentary things about all of us. he said, i am doing a very good job. we are grateful for that. >> he saw me in there and he was like, hello, marjorie. he is always so sweet and recognizes me. >> he is so sweet? he literally sent an angry violent mob to your place of work not that long ago. lawmakers were forced to run for their lives and hide under chairs with gas masks on. and then the guy who sent the mob there came back to the scene of the crime and ranted, by the way, also about hannibal lector and taylor swift. that really happened. he trashed the host city of the republican convention. and the only reaction from all these members is, he noticed me. he said i am doing a good job. he is so sweet. they know who was responsible for the attempted coup three years ago, and they know that, because they said so. and now, it's like none of that ever happened. >> there is no question that president trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. >> trump and i, we have had a journey. i hate it being this way. all i can say is, count me out. enough is enough. >> he was the team captain and we were glad he was leading us. it was the single best meeting i've ever seen between republican senators and president trump. >> when you watch it like that side-by-side, their evolution is still pretty shocking. all of that valid outrage back in 2021 you saw from them and many of their members have turned into a handshake and a soft smile and of course, blindly following their team captain for the november election. as former congresswoman liz cheney put it, they know he's a danger to the republic and continue to enable him. but here's the thing. they have long enabled him. the scary thing this time around is that most republicans aren't just enabling him by rolling their eyes and looking away all of his bad behavior. this time, they are actively trying to weapon nice the system on his behalf. house republicans emerged from the meeting vowing to fight even harder to protect trump from various prosecutors pursuing him. he pledged to issue subpoenas for law enforcement agencies that investigate him. he double down on that same quote. the house has a critical role to utilize the power of the subpoena, the power of the first. trump is going to be the masthead of that effort in the coming months. as reported, trump has been obsessed in recent weeks with harnessing the powers of congress to fight on his own behalf following his felony conviction. johnson, surprise surprise, reportedly sympathized with trump's frustration. look. i don't have any illusions, nor should you, of what this party has become. are too many of them seem to be willing to excuse away almost anything, even a violent insurrection. right now, they are not just ignoring antics using. this time, they are actively putting their hands up and telling them they are ready and willing to help them. joining me now is democratic senator cory booker of new jersey. thank you so much for joining me. this week, donald trump made his first trip to capitol hill since the insurrection, which is startling, i think, for a lot of us. and i can't really get the image out of my head of mitch mcconnell -- who said trump committed a disgraceful dereliction of duty during january 6th, and also the others who had similar sentiments at the moment. i just want to ask you how you digested that, especially given how many of these senators felt around him around the events of january 6. >> it's interesting you saying this in this national forum, but in the private conversations of editors, we all remember how dark that day was. that the world's most deliberative body in a sacred civic space had to be chased out, literally running for their lives to avoid a mob that was chanting murderous chance. it ultimately led to the death of multiple police officers. and the person who incited it all. don't take my word for it again. take republicans time after time condemning what donald trump did. he was on trial for it. he was impeached. numbers of republicans voted to convict him for what he did. he showed back up at the scene of the crime, and people who spoke very passionately about the president of the united states really undermining the dignity of the office and inspiring a riot showed back up to the capital. it brought a lot of that pain back. and talking to some capitol police officers who went through on that day. who showed the greatest of honor, willing to put their lives on the line. and to have donald trump now be the person they are escorting to and fro is painful. >> i'm sure it was. i'm sure it brought back so many memories to so many people who witnessed that and were there for january 6th. i think there was a lot that happened this week. you lived it, and i'm sure you are aware of the controversy that broke out over some comments that trump made about milwaukee, which is hosting the republican convention coming up later this summer. he reportedly called milwaukee a horrible city. he called washington a filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment. he has called chicago worse than afghanistan. he once called baltimore a disgusting rat and rodent infested mass. these are america's cities. what do you make of his comments, and what is driving it? >> this is the spirit of the man. this is a person who doesn't love america. he demeans and degrades some of our most precious and beloved places. he demeans and degrades the people that live there. the people that dedicate themselves to teaching in our schools. firefighters, the police officers, the civic engineers. so many of the cities -- i was a mayor of one -- went through decades of losing population and losing investment. but there are cities all over america that are standing up, businesses moving back to city centers. really exciting stories of promise. we don't need a president that punches down, that beats up, that puts us against each other and degrades people and places. it is just disheartening to see one of our major political parties elevating someone who doesn't celebrate america. the rhetoric of ronald reagan, of george bush senior. i mean, they were about celebrating this country, lifting this country up and seeing it for what it is. i moved into a really tough neighborhood and i was sobered by some of the challenges that they were going through the time and the neighborhood, and this great leader challenged me and said, you need to understand something. the world you see outside of you is a reflection of what you have in right of you. and she really challenged me to open my eyes and see the potential and the possibility, hope and the dignity of the people, and i will never forget that. and donald trump is really telling up the story of who he is, not the story of who milwaukee is. >> such a good point. one of the things that's challenging about the politics, senator, there's just a lot to run against here. i wanted to ask you about trump's conviction in the politics surrounding that, as well. j.b. pritzker said this about the conviction. this is also what i believe is important to most americans, particularly those in the middle were ultimately going to decide this election. there's a lot to run against. you share the belief that trump being a convicted felon to be the most important factor for undecided voters at this point? >> i'm not sure. i'm obviously looking a focus group details. the evidence in most people the most is the extraordinary achievements of the biden administration that most americans aren't aware of. this is a president that has a pathway, but i'm going to be one of those guys campaigning all over this country, not only speaking to the bright light and positive accomplishments of this president, but i'm going to remind people of who donald trump is, in his own words or his own actions. and yeah, not only has he had 34 felony convictions, he is a convicted felon. but he has two pending federal felony indictments, both for interfering with an election, as well as how he has handled classified documents that endanger our national security. he's got a state felony conviction in georgia, but that's not all. this guy has also been found by the new york supreme court, him and his organization, have been found liable and find $450 million. it's despicable and disgusting things he did to e. jean carroll. he's been fined tens of millions of dollars, even as charitable activities were exposed by a judge to have been corrupt. and for his own personal benefit. he was forced to disband his charitable activities and pay millions of dollars. everything that he has done and every aspect of his life, business, personal, charity -- has now been by federal and criminal courts -- has been resoundingly condemned, and he has had to pay out millions of dollars in fines. this is a pattern and practice of who he is. he brought the greatest shame to our country. the only time our capital has ever been taken over by a mob or violence was in 1814 due to the war of 1812. and again, under his presidency. to me, it's both. it's understanding the truth and successes of a president who served under one of the most difficult terms of service, took over the country when it was on the brink after donald trump's presidency and has brought us some of the greatest success, especially relative to other nations. best economy on the globe right now in terms of economic growth. and then compared to a donald trump was, what donald trump is done in every area of his life. >> you said in the judiciary committee -- i wanted to just ask you about the supreme court. it seems like every week -- it seems like it's growing in recent weeks, there's a new set scandal. there were the tapes released this week of samuel alito sounding awfully partisan, i think it's fair to say. your committee also reported this week that justice clarence thomas took more trips on a mega-donor's private plane. i could go on, but i will stop there. this feels a bit like a crisis to me. would you like to see the senate hear from some of these justices directly, or would you be open to subpoenaing them? >> a lot of these billionaires and these activists who have been trying for decades to capture our courts and have been obviously successful in influencing them, these billionaires were taking people on these trips, folks like harlan crow and others, we've been trying to call them before the senate. the fact that this has fallen into the traditional partisan left right divide is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. this isn't about partisanship. this is the fact that the highest court in the land should have the highest ethical standards, not the lowest. the fact that senators in congress have higher ethical center standards on our behavior than the supreme court, which literally, the whole idea of avoiding appearances of impropriety is literally written into judicial ethics. we've had people like clarence thomas receiving millions of dollars worth of perks and benefits from billionaires who have strong right ideological who have deep investments of outcomes of court cases. this is absolutely unacceptable and should be resoundingly condemned by all americans. this is a crisis of our institution, and the justices involved were not even willing to recuse themselves, like in the case of alito, it is just shameful. and so we are going to continue to speak out about this. we are going to continue to call out the truth and to try to use the judiciary committee, ultimately, to bring about the change that all americans on both sides of the aisle really do want, which is that our highest court in the land should have our highest ethical standards and judges that abide by it. >> they are continuing to handout opinions, right? i mean, on friday, they overturned a ban on bump stocks, which are used to make a semi automatic rifle fire more quickly. so there's a bit of a credibility. there is a credibility crisis here. also clearly a bit of an extremism crisis. you've done so much and spoken out about gun violence. to that decision on bump stocks. >> the worst mass shooting in american history, all of our country's history, was a man with a bump stock. and in over 11 minutes, fired over 1000 rounds. that bump stock allowed him to convert his weapon into a mass firing, multiple round shooting gun that wounded over 500 people, killing 58. it was a horrific incident. my mom lives in vegas, and the terror and the horror of that incident compelled president trump to call for the band of bump stocks. i think that soda mayor in her dissent was right. it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it looks like a duck. it is like converting a weapon to effectively a machine gun, which are banned. we have a supreme court so out of step with our country. this is not controversial. people on the left and right, a republican president, called for the end of these devices in the wake of the worst mass shooting in our country. the horrors that it brought about. it should not be allowed in our nation. >> no question. i know every day i'm care that when my kids are sent off to school, given how available these weapons are and bump stocks across the country. i want to ask you about ivf, because this has become an issue that, unfortunately, it shouldn't be controversial. so many women are able to have children because of it. you introduced a bill this week to codify ivf protections and got a vote this week and it failed. i think it's important to restate how popular ivf is. all but two republicans voted against it. for people wondering out there, what the heck is going on, why would anyone oppose this? why did all these republicans vote against your bill? >> when it comes to women's reproductive rights, at large in our nation, democrats, republicans, and independents all agree that this erosion of reproductive rights is unacceptable. a majority of americans believe in roe v wade. the majority of americans believe they should have access to method for stone, and the majority of americans overwhelmingly, upwards of 90%, say that we should have access to ivf. our legislation was very basic. it said, number one, we need to protect these rights at a time that extremist groups and legislatures are trying to take them away. number two, ivf, which is very expensive, the miracle of i having children should not be accessible only to the wealthy or two people they can find a way to pay the $10-$20,000, and that simply more insurance carriers should cover that. and then finally, in a way that should've compelled more people to stand up and some word it is that military folks who are going off to service after exposing themselves to conditions or injuries that could prevent them from having children, we should support our military personnel to freeze their sperm or their eggs and have access to this kind of treatment that can enable them and their families, often families that have five generations of military service, we should allow them to also be able to access the dream of having children should they need ivf. it's a basic bill, and this was stopped in its tracks. didn't even get a debate in congress by republicans who do not represent at large republican sentiment. we are in a crisis in this country. we are going to continue to stand up and fight for women's reproductive rights. it is really going to play out in this election. what kind of people are we going to elect? will you support the party and the people that are taking away individual freedoms and reproductive rights, or will he join together and protect them by electing people who will stand up for those reproductive rights? >> senator cory booker. that issue is on the minds of so many people >> it seemed like there had been a trend of our american oligarchs getting behind donald trump because he likes to make a deal and everything is transactional and quid pro quo. but to get in a room with him and to listen to hymns beak is to see how deranged and outlandish his speculations are right now. in addition to everything else that he, you know, stands for. for him, government is just a moneymaking opportunity for him and his family, and he converted the presidency into an instrument of private health enrichment. that is dramatically opposed to what joe biden is all about. the government has to be for the common good and public interest for everybody. the stakes are very clear in the election. >> this all comes in a week where there were some new york posts inaccurate and false reporting that suggested president biden was kind of stalling, he was paused, he was looking the other way. i feel like there's a double standard. you feel there's a double standard out there had a people are looking at their ages? >> there obviously is. i think the thing with joe biden is, he has been proven to be a man of integrity by more than a year and a half of the wild goose chase we sat through in the oversight committee, so they got no corruption on them. the public record is pretty amazing when you look at record unemployment in the country. the best unemployment in more than 50 years, whereas under donald trump, it was the worst unemployment we've had since herbert hoover. and the inflation rate is coming down. we have dramatic reductions in prescription drug prices. so they can't mess with him on substance, so they go after what they think is his achilles' heel, which is his age. and of course, you know, a lot of people see his age as, you know, something that helps to explain some of his wisdom and some of his compassion, the kind of compassion you see not just within his family, but out right of it. that compassion for people in his family becomes solidarity for everybody in the country who is struggling as well, and people around the world who want their human rights, who want peace, who want social justice. with trump, it is all about what will elevate and aggrandize trump and what will enrich trump? if you think you are in that inner circle, maybe you go with trump. but everyone outside of it, the party of democracy and freedom. >> i want to ask you about a double standard that i know is close to your heart, which is that around jared kushner. this is something i know you had a lot of interest in. this week, senator ron white launched an investigation into kushner's hedge fund and how he managed to rage so much money from foreign sources. what do you hope to learn from this investigation? >> is a constitutional issue. the founders of the country put it right in the constitution. nobody else in federal office can receive any kind of payment , emoluments, which means just money in office, or a title or a present from a king, a prince, a foreign state of any kind, whatever. jared kushner comes back with $2 billion from saudi arabia after being the middle east point guy. and so that creates a huge constitutional ethical and political problem for us, and we need to investigate it, and we need legislation to make sure that people are not turning our government into the kind of government that putin has got, which is basically a criminal state. >> yeah. jared kushner actually works in the white house, which i think is an important thing for people to remember. >> hunter biden never did, and he never made any deals with foreign governments. and he has gone through a federal trial under the u.s. department of justice. so if the doj is weapon nice against anybody, it looks more like democrats. there's a democratic congressman in texas, but nobody is whining about that. nobody's complaining about it, because our party believes in the rule of law and the system of justice we got. >> a great place to end on, congressman. happy father's day. up next, some thoughts from me about the dads in my life on this father's day. we will be right back. are you still struggling with your bra?
