>> yeah. >> all right. >> how is it going? >> good, how are you? >> where are you heading? >> take pictures of the wall. >> the wall? >> or the fence. >> okay. have a good time. >> okay. thanks. >> i wanted to do a place for an instillation that would play with the war but not touch the war. i found a place we can drive in front of the wall but on the u.s. side, border patrol everywhere, helicopters flying, i'm like this doesn't look like an easy place and i look on the other side and see some houses crossed by the war, not that far. so we go past and then i go to the closest house from the wall because i'm like maybe i can pace something on that house. i look at that door where there was this woman and two old people, baby and chickens and the dog and she look at me like oh, i follow you on social media. i go that's insane. the first door i bang, you know, that's really weird. so i'm like all right, look, you know, me, i do this kind of stuff. she takes me to the spot closest to the fence but there is trees and stuff. it's a bit complicated for me to do it there. so look, thank you. let me continue driving alongside the wall. i kept driving to the ocean and i'm like that kid don't know why the fence is. he doesn't know there are two countries and two sides. he doesn't know what that wall means. so i go back and all i did is photograph him standing in the crib looking around him like that. and then i left. there is nothing, grass and garbage here and there so i'm like okay, whose land is this? i ask every neighbor, hey, excuse me, sir? do you know whose land? i don't know. next table. do you know whose land is this? some people wouldn't open the door. what do you want? no. what do you do? my only option is let's rent a bulldozer. anybody can rent a bulldozer. they will deliver it to anyone's address. i start digging the ground. i'm like the risk for me as a french person in mexico digging the ground next to the border, well, i'm not digging a hole under it. i'm flattening it so maybe the mexicans come first and say you can't do that here are you crazy? i'll be like i'm so sorry. we start one day, two days, three days, for 15 days nobody says anything and we level the ground. i couldn't believe it. i was like what the f, who is in charge here? so i go to rent scaffolding. all right. if you pay, we drill it. we don't ask questions. three times the size of the wall. let's see if the border patrol stop us. i come with my team and we paint that little kid. there i was like okay, maybe that's where i'm going to lose everything because border patrol is going to start saying there is something big being built by the wall. we should do something about it. >> [speaking foreign language]. >> in one day we place the entire structure. i'm like forget it, let's get out of here and i past back from the other side and stumbling on the two border patrol just looking at the kid and i just unintended said whoever wants to go see that kid, here is the location. that's all i said. one of the great thing art do, if you build a giant kid somewhere, let's go take a selfie in from the of it. that's where my idea stop. i hope people go and take photos to see the wall. it's the same land but we're on each side. and what happened is something i haven't planned. people exchanging their phones through the wall to take photos of each other, connecting, talking, how are you? the border patrol should be wait, wait, wait, they could be passing drugs or weapon. let's go arrest those people. after three weeks, no one got arrested. how the f people don't get arrested for passing stuff through the wall? what's up, everybody? we here in paris. the top. boom. people always seeing graffiti just started but look at this. that's graffiti from 1814, 1923. and there is tons of people who want to exist and express and be seen and be remembered. i relate to that. >> from the room tops. not that i have to escape from the window. my parents were sleeping on the couch in the living room and would leave me freedom. as a child of immigrants, i come from a family that never had a voice. i feel like i'm living because i would see. would be like oh, made that rooftop. ♪ ♪ >> one day i was at a train station waiting for my friend and he was late. and at some point i seen a bag that was there. after two, three train that bag was still there. so i open and see this camera, i took it. i had that idea of i should document those adventures. i was documenting everything. i was documenting climbing the roofs. i was documenting the night experiences. i loved it. i just make photographs of it and give it to the people i photographed. then i was like oh, i have these photographs in hand. i can paste one on the wall. but my photos were really small so you wouldn't really notice them. so i started framing those photos. i started noticing that people in suits and tie would stop and look at that if people don't like it, they can pee on it, scratch it, take it down but if what you do creates reactions and even if people hate it, i'm happy because it raised conversation. ♪ ♪ >> [speaking foreign language]. >> yeah. >> when i started, many times we got arrested. one day i went across the store to the hat and glasses like, you know, maybe when i take them off nobody would recognize me. at that time i told them the whole world was paris and surrounding and then i met him and he took me to a place i never seen before. ♪ ♪ >> collecting already making art, making graffiti. i was filming. we had that similar vibe and we understood each other. one day he took me to his neighborhood. it's a project like mine but i never seen anything like that. it was copletely abandoned. >> [speaking foreign language]. >> you can still live in the countryside because the train was going to run out there. the train never came. the highway, the real estate developers all left and the families with less money came instead. that's what really drove people crazy. we're the forgotten of the forgotten. >> it's in the mirror. >> [speaking foreign language]. >> at that time, he was shooting a short film and filmed me pasting. >> they were like take a photo. take a photo of me. said you had a gun?
