Maryvale Preparatory School in Brooklandville began Thursday vaccinating some of its youngest learners."We had timed this for today, but we were watching the opening, if they were going to make the move from 12 to 15. It was perfect. As of 3:30 yesterday afternoon, we were able to open it up," said Tracey Ford, the school's principal.Maryland online vaccination site locatorVaccine Data DashboardMaryland vaccination plan FAQsAnd apparently, the clinic's opening came not a moment too soon."I was very excited because the rest of my family is vaccinated," said Brynne Dalrymple, a student.And it didn't take long for that excitement to spread across campus."I feel like we're all just coming closer together because we are all in the same situation," Dalrymple said.Girls under 15 had to show up with their parents.The Maryland Department of Health has made it known how eager it is to reach this younger age group."There's about 307 12- to 15-year-olds, and from 12 to 17, there are about 455,000 total, and so we are going to be focused on (vaccinating) that group going forward," Maryland Health Secretary Dennis Schrader said.Maryvale Prep is just one example of how the pace of vaccinations is starting to pick up."The response has been overwhelmingly positive and grateful as well as we allowed extended family members and others in the community," Ford said.For now, community has become key in helping the state move a step closer to reaching its goal of full vaccination.
