The accident happened in June 2020 Share Updated: 5:53 PM CDT Apr 20, 2021 A Texas man has been sentenced to multiple twenty years sentences in the DUI crash that took the life of a Jackson grandmother in 2020. Harrison Neal Little, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence resulting in death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, according to Madison County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett.Little was sentenced by Judge Dewey Arthur to 20 years for each count, with those sentences running concurrently. On June 10, 2020, Betty Simmons, 58, was reportedly on her way to work at the Kroger on Highway 51 in Madison when she was rear-ended by Little. Madison police officers responded to the scene at the intersection of Highway 51 and Hoy Road, where witnesses told them a 2015 Nissan Altima was stopped at the red light when it was struck from behind by a 2014 Toyota Camry. Little, who police said was driving the Camry, left the scene but was later arrested by officers on Madison Parkway. Simmons later died at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from injuries sustained during the accident. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Little was speeding and over the limit for alcohol at the time of the wreck, the district attorney's office said. Little apologized to Simmons' family at the sentencing hearing "and took complete responsibility for his actions," according to Bramlett.
