13:59 | Lima, Apr. 26. Machu Picchu —one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World— is Peru's standard-bearer at the 2021 World Travel Awards - South America Region, known as the Oscars of tourism. Peru has been placed in the most relevant categories, and Machu Picchu stands out among these nominations at this 29th edition of the World Travel Awards. With this nomination, the citadel of Machu Picchu —Peru's main tourist icon and a World Heritage Site— is on its way to receiving a new international recognition. This time, the ancient citadel competes to be South America's Leading Tourist Attraction, an award it has obtained for the last three years in a row (2018, 2019, and 2020) in the regional edition of the World Travel Awards.
