♪ the only thing better than playing a hero in the movies, is being a hero in real life. like the 50,000 veterans who returned from iraq and afghanistan with devastating injuries. they are true heroes. and they're why i'm proud to support paralyzed veterans of america. they make sure veterans with spinal cord injuries get the care and support they need at no cost to them. to learn more, visit pva.org. that's p-v-a dot org. far too many young women around the globe lack crucial medical care, access to education, and a safe place to call home. they need to be empowered and supported. learn how you can help at girlup.org. faa is investigating a close call at san francisco's airport. when an air canada jet failed to respond to repeated orders to abort its landing. this follows another near disaster three months ago involving the same airline, at the same airport. here is transportation correspondent, kris van cleave. >> reporter: when air canada flight 781 closing in on run way 21 right, airport controllers at san francisco airport made six calls to the pilots to abort the landing. there was no response from the flight from montreal with 149 on board. fearing a previous arrival wouldn't be cleared of the same runway in time. >> a supervisor in the tower resorted to using a red light like this, to alert the unresponsive crew of the possible danger. the a 320 landed anyway. moments after the plane got out of the way. >> air canada, 781, tower. after the landing the tower made three attempts to reach the air canada plane before finally hearing from the pilot. claiming there was a problem with the airliner's radio. >> that's pretty evident. >> i'm afraid the fellows were almost clueless. >> retired airline captain who often flew into san francisco. >> going into a place from san francisco if i don't hear any transmission on a busy frequency for 30 second i know i have a problem. i either switch radios. get a radio check. >> in july an airliner came within feet of four airliners waiting to take off from san francisco. in that incident the air canada pilots mistook the taxiway for the runway. ntsb investigation is ongoing. in a statement, air canada says its flight was initially cleared to land when it was six miles out. the airline will investigate what happened. the faa is investigating as well. anthony. >> kris van cleave on the near disaster there, thank you, kris. fbi released 1500 pages from the its investigation into the 2012 massacre in newtown, connecticut. anna werner reports they shed new light on the troubled young man who murdered 20 first graders and six adults at sandy hook school. the fbi documents include an interview with an unidentified woman who said she was in contact with adam lanza over two years on a gaming website dedicated to the 1999 columbine high school shootings. she told investigators, lanza kept a spread sheet meticulously documenting details of hundreds of spree killings and mass murders. she described him as depressed, isolated, and some one who viewed death as an escape from his joyless existence. the files show indicators of a young man headed for trouble. in a briefing with victims families in 2014, fbi profilers said lanza didn't snap, was careful, methodical in his planning. another woman interviewed told agents sunny previously heard lanza say he planned to kill his mother and children at sandy hook. he was diagnosed with asperger's high functioning autism, gifted enough with computers his mother nancy said her son hacked into a government computer system. bringing authority to her door. witnesses described his mother's behavior too. telling agents sunny never let any one come into her home. one describing her as a gun nut who loved the feeling and power of a gun in her hand. lanza used his mother gun to kill her and then the 20 elementary school students and six adults at sandy hook elementary. manny gomez is a former fbi agent. >> there are a lot of mentally ill people that are actively seeking to copycat these types of situations, it is going to happen again if people don't step up. and try to identify the next adam lanza. off ought documents also show that lanza talked about school killers with what was described as respect and understanding. he was also apparently thinking about the attack as early as march 2011, almost two years before it happened, anthony. >> anna werner, thank you. we are getting new insight into a mass shooting. the attack in las vegas that killed 58. "the new york times" developed a new time line by piecing together evidence from videos taken at the scene. here is jamie yuccas. >> reporter: "the new york times" investigation says the shootings started at 10. 0, 5. matching the investigator's time line. after some initial single shots, automatic gunfire can be heard with jason aldein on stage. at 10:06, p.m. minute into the attack. stephen paddock wounds jesus campos in the hallway. this contradicts investigators latest time line which said paddock shot campos then begin to shoot into the crowd uninterrupted. it is one of the many questions being raised by a team of digital investigators, at "the new york times." which used 30 videos to create a time of line. >> ours is not the definitive picture what happened. more information will emerge. it does give us new insights. >> senior story producer, malaki brown. >> we analyzed every burst of gunfire which had its own fingerprint. >> 36 seconds after security guard campos radioed in, came a second round of ought matting gunfire into the crowd of the route 91 harvest festival. there its just a 17-second lull. before a third burst of gunfire. only 20 second later, a fourth burst. >> "the new york times" counts more than 900 round in all into the crowd. at 10:10. muffled gunfire is heard from a taxi driver's cell phone video. indicating that the shooter might have been firing into the hallway again. what's unclear its why officers wouldn't arrive on the 31st floor for another 2 minutes. and not until 10:22 to the 32nd floor. >> where are the cops at? >> a full 7 minutes after the shooting started taxi driver cory langdon questions why there are no officers or panic outside mandalay bay. >> everybody is just standing around. >> more than three weeks after the shooting there are still many unanswered questions like what was paddock's motivation? >> look, this is -- i have gotten to know the president in a very unique way over the course of the last year. and i guess like all americans, i would have hope that he would rise to the occasion and bring out the best in our nation. charlie, hopeful plea what presidents do is to bring the country together to unify around common goals. and not to debase our country if you've will. that has the not happened. beginning to believe it know it going to happen. i think that is what president bush, president obama, many others have been concerned about as it appears to be the governing model of this white house. to purposely divide. that's what happened after the virginia incident. it is to consolidate base not to bring people together and bring out better angels of those people in the country. a great nation. without us doing that it really not only affects us and future generations, but it affects the world. and so, i hope -- i don't really hold out a lot of hope. but i hope that, that somehow, a little bit different course of action can be taken. >> we keep hearing privately, senator corker that many people feel the way you do. so what's being done about it on capitol hill? >> look, we are separate and equal branches. there is tremendous power that resides in the white house. one of the things we are going to be doing, beginning a week from this coming monday night. going to be, begin to walk through a series of -- of discussions about the authorization, for the use of military force. what powers, the president has. talk about some of the international alignments that the we have that are important to our country. making the american people even more aware of some of the destructive things that are happening. so that's one thing we can do. we can also be a check -- legislatively, but look. an individual in that particular position has the tremendous power to set the tone for our country. and, unfortunately, it is being set in a way that i think is not, not brink out the best in the citizens, that, that we all treasure here in our country. so, you know, i'm doing the best i can. without, without, you know, trying to do so in a, statement r stateman like manner. but i think this is shared by many americans. >> do you feel free to speak out way you do because you announced you are not running?
