this is the "cbs morning news" for wednesday, july 29th 20156789 good morning. i'm alison harmelin in for anne-marie green. it's the kind of stifling heat that takes your breath away. heat advisories are posted from oklahoma to alabama. it will feel like triple digit temperatures across the south and into the northeast. in new york city the temperature is six days of 90 degrees or higher. today is expected to be 95. officials say blackouts are inevitable. >> we serve 3.2 million metered customers that represents 9 million new yorkers throughout new york city and westchester every day. we will get pockets unfortunate unfortunately of people who might lose power and our crews are working in the heat to try to get the power back on as soon as they can. >> many cities have hit the 90-degree temperatures so far this year but not this many. it was so hot in north dakota that an interstate buckled. eric fisher of our boston station says leaf should be on the way. now that heat's on the movie into the northeast. so for wednesday and thursday a hot midweek up and down from boston down to new york philly d.c., all seeing veryhop hot temperatures into the 90s and rising humid. the tough stuff is on the bottom where you have the high heat indiocese. some relief is on the way. cold front starts moving southward on wednesday that will start to bring some relief especially across the heat moving to the west will further complicate efforts for firefighters to battle a wildfire in california. a fire jumped the containment line and forced 200 people to evacuate. in tucson, a couple riding in an suv were hit by floodwaters and swept into a wash tuesday. the suv flipped over. the cups was able to get out and swept downstream. they were eventually rescued by the fire department. police in chattanooga, tennessee, released video showing the dui arrest of the man who shot four marines and a petty officer this month. mohammad abdulazeez was arrested. the video shows him being pulled over after swerving over a dotted line. abdulazeez tells the officers the powder on his face was due to caffeine pills. he also had a hunting knife in his car. he was killed in a shoot-out with police. an alleged ice sis supporter is under arrest in florida charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. prosecutors say harlem suarez planned to use a bomb on a beach. he told an inform mapt he wanted to make a remotely triggered nail bomb. he was arrested monday after allegedly buying components for bomb. is real says they're looking forward to released pollard. he was alefted in 1985. he stole a top secret manual to let israel identify some of the covert agents. also gave information to pakistan and south africa. on capitol hill intense lobbying is decision. that could happen as early as today. patriot' head coach bill belichick is also expected to speak at a news conference this morning. alison? a strong earthquake rattled south central alaska but no damage was recorded. it was centered about 145 miles southwest of anchorage near the volcano. our anchorage affiliate ktva was on the air when the quake hit. anchorage res debltss say they felt a slow rolling that last several seconds and then a jolt. operations at a third well were reduced. wastewater and oil and gas drill has been linked to earthquakes in that state. the quake on monday
