An umbrella tomorrow. We do have what changes coming our way. But it will fall on the weekend. And so that is some good news because it is going to come during the early hours, in which case it could have been the morning commute. Here is a look over at San Francisco, where we have partly cloudy skies to start the day. A little bit of fog out there this morning, and temperature wise its a cool one in areas like santa rosa 47 for you there, 53 in oakland and 56 over san jose. Afternoon highs for today, upper 50s at the coast to mid 60s in San Francisco. Low to mid 70s around the bay, mid to upper 70s inland. Going to be another warm one in areas like concord going to 78. Big changes coming our way though not only cooler weather but wet weather. More on this coming up in the extended forecast at 701. Lets see how the highways are doing out there. Getting a little busy south. It is. Yeah, it is getting busy. There was a stalled vehicle on the bridge westbound near treasure island. We had a good commute, but now because of that, you can see that there is a big backup at the toll plaza. Just kind of appeared. So please give yourself extra time. Traffic is going to be slow. Eastbound on the bridge and lower deck, theres a accident there as well on the right hand shoulder. If there is not much of one near treasure island, but its there. Its not causing a huge delay. As we look at the san mateo bridge, its a little busier now, heading out to the peninsula. No major issues on the peninsula, including San Francisco 101 280. And as you drive into downtown 702. Lets get back to the headlines. All right. Thank you. Well we have more on the developing story in san jose. Weve been talking about this morning, the new information as well, on what happened when two Police Officers were shot and a suspected attacker injured as well. Ctvs allie rasmus still live at that scene with updates. Allie yes, weve moved closer to where this all happened and Extended Stay Hotel apparently, in san jose, the closest major intersection is san ignacio and bernal. And this is where you see dozens of San Jose Police patrol vehicles parked in front. Theres still some Law Enforcement officers inside, and the entrance to this hotel has been closed off to the general public. In fact, weve talked to a couple people who were staying here overnight and couldnt get back to their room, or they left early in the evening. This incident happened around 1030 and they couldnt get back to their room. So theyre being escorted one at a time into the hotel because its part of this crime scene. Two officers were shot here. One of them suffered life threatening injuries and is still in the hospital. A second officer had what was described as moderate injuries and has been released. The suspect involved in this was also shot and has life threatening injuries again. 1030 in the evening yesterday is when this happened at this Extended Stay Hotel. Theres limited information right now about what exactly brought the officers here in the first place. All we know from San Jose Police this morning is that they were responding to a disturbance call in this hotel when they encountered what the department described as a male suspect. We dont know what that man was wanted for, but according to police, that man shot at the officers. They shot back. According to some of the people staying at this hotel, they believe this happened on the third floor of this extended stay. The two officers and the suspect were all struck by the gunfire. And again, the latest info is that one San Jose Police officer was seriously hurt with life threatening injuries still in the hospital this morning. The suspect also seriously hurt with life threatening injuries and the second San Jose Police officer moderately injured and has been released from the hospital. But were still waiting to get some more information from San Jose Police about the circumstances surrounding this. What brought police here for that disturbance . Call last night in the first place . In the meantime, there are some road closures in the area near san ignacio and bernal. Theres still a very large Law Enforcement presence out here. Investigators are still gathering evidence and doing their work. And in the meantime, some of the people who are staying at this hotel and theres another one right next door, weve seen them kind of going in and out and walking around, having to be escorted to go inside to get some of their belongings. So theres still a fluid situation with a lot of Police Activity out here. Avoid the area if you have to or if you can. As we work together. More information on this story with two Police Officers by san jose at san jose shot in this incident last night and a suspect also shot live in san jose. Allie rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. Allie. The protesters say they made it clear they want the university to review its current investments, and they want the university to immediately cut ties with weapons manufacturers and military supply industries involved with israels attacks on gaza. Weve met with all, all sorts of people, chancellor christ, the staff. Im not sure about the positions of each of these people, but, like its in progress now, the protesters say they can claim one victory. They say the undergrad student body voted in favor of a measure to block all student funding linked to the military. They now hope the university will do the same. We did try to contact the university about it, but a spokesperson declined to make a comment. Administrators at Stanford University sent a photo to the fbi of someone wearing a headband, normally worn by hamas fighters. A University Spokesperson says. Organized video shared by the union shows workers outside the mcdonalds on jackson street. The union says workers were told not to take photos or videos of the rats or theyd be fired. Another strike is happening at the El Pollo Loco restaurant on international boulevard in oakland, where the union says there are hazards of fire, flooding and possible electrocution. We did reach out to mcdonalds and El Pollo Loco for comment. Our time is now 708. Will the drive through downtown concord should be getting back to normal soon . City Officials Say several streets are now reopening after a big fire forced them to close it monday night. Now the openings are across the street from the concord bart station between clayton road and concord boulevard. Several stretches of the road were closed for days after a big fire monday night. Officials say debris removal begins next week. The cause of that fire is still under investigation. New this morning, firefighters in san leandro are investigating a house fire. It happened on 167th avenue at los banos drive last night around 10 00 at a two story home video from citizen app shows clouds of thick, gray smoke and raging flames at the scene. Alameda county firefighters say the fire was contained in about 20 minutes. No one was hurt. The two people inside were able to get out safely. Our times now 710 in oakland, the popular restaurant horn barbecue reopened last week after a big fire shut it down for more than six months. However, fire officials now say theyre investigating that fire as an arson. The building was deemed unsafe to use after the big fire, and it was closed off because of all of the fire damage. Now, firefighters say theres evidence found at the scene that someone may have started the fire intentionally. The owner says the restaurant was defaced and vandalized the day before it burned down. Time now 710 and we do have some slow traffic this morning on the bay bridge. Its easing now that theyve taken care of a stalled vehicle on the span westbound. It was a little slower today. The Traffic Volume is light, so we have reason to believe that if you want to wait a little bit, it will be easier to get into San Francisco in about an hour. This is a look now at the commute on the san mateo bridge. Thats also improved a little bit in the last half hour. So i dont think this commute is going to be as strong as some of the other commutes weve had. Lets take a look at interstate 880 right near the coliseum. And that traffic is looking good. No real slowdowns right now in the south bay. 711 lets go back to the desk. Okay. Well, health care will soon be available to undocumented immigrants who came here to the us as children. We have details of the new Biden Administration rule that expands daca protection. The Oakland Police department is touting new data that show a drop in crime in oakland. What oaklanders say about whether their concerns over Public Safety are calming, as well , and at the it Oakland Police say despite recent problems, overall crime is actually going down and they say they have the numbers to prove it. Ktvu is andre senior in the studio now with the details on all of this. Andre. Well, dave, new numbers from opd says overall crime is down 33 compared to this time last year. Specifically, the data shows reductions in violent crimes, including homicides, assaults and burglaries too. And while the numbers for robberies are still up 11 overall since last year, they have fallen in recent weeks. City leadership credits the revival of the Cease Fire Program, which returned earlier this year. Officials say the Program Required them to reorganize the Police Department from being a reactive organization to a Proactive Crime fighting force. What cease fire does is it uses Police Intelligence and Community Information to identify those at the center of violence who are most at risk of picking up a gun and committing a violent crime. Now, the city says the numbers are proof the program works, but not everyone in oakland feels the same way. Some say they have been feeling safer lately, while others say theyre surprised to hear crime is down. No, i dont feel safe. Im constantly watching around. I feel a lot safer here, especially at night compared to San Francisco, where it could be a lot more dangerous. And i definitely see the change in crime rates dropping. The new data is building optimism among city leaders, but many say there is still work to be done here. The goal is to get crime numbers back to prepandemic levels. Authorities believe the Cease Fire Program will continue gasia to bring crime rates down. Andre. Thank you. Maui county is filing a lawsuit against major cell carriers over the Deadly Wildfires last august. The county is suing verizon, tmobile, spectrum and at t says the companies failed to properly inform police of widespread Service Outages during the fires. The county says if it had known, it would have used other methods to get an evacuation effort out to people. In lahaina, 101 people were killed in the fires. Our time now. 716 a San Francisco firefighter now battling brain cancer, is now fighting for other firefighters. San francisco fire battalion chief matt alba is a member of the San Francisco firefighters Cancer Prevention foundation. After he was out on the front lines of various california wildfires, including the camp fire in paradise. Matt was diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer, and hes been treating it for a couple of years now. He gets mri scans twice a year. Well, today hes trying to turn what happened to him. That negative experience into a positive one. He advocates for firefighters who are exposed to toxic chemicals on a daily basis. Theres a lot that we can do as a society to make this better, because fires are always going to happen. Emergencies are always going to happen. Accidents are always going to happen, and well need firefighters to step up. Now, the firefighters Cancer Prevention foundation is paying for a study of 50 active duty firefighters to watch how their dna changes based on exposure to these chemicals. Some of those firefighters are being given some profane shots. Their studies have shown that have helped to reduce carcinogens. A company that sells the supplement is teaming up with the foundation for that study and providing the product free to the firefighters. This company has recognized that firefighters are the most vulnerable in society to be exposed to these chemicals like diesel, diesel exhaust, wildfire smoke, the benzene in in smoke. So the benefits of sulforaphane extend to anticancer, antiinflammatory. And the company is also donating more of the supplement to firefighters. For every one thats sold to the public. Now were going to post a link on ktvu. Com web links. So you can get more information. 718 lets see whats happening on this friday morning commute friday light sal or not, some places are better than others. I wouldnt call it light there. Garcia and dave, good morning to you for example, the bay bridge, we had an earlier problem on the span. It was light and then it got heavy. But the good news is, since the volume is lighter than it is on the first four days of the week, this is quickly recovering. I can see the end of the backup now, which is out there near the overcrossing adding another hour or so. This should be completely gone. It might even take shorter time than that because i just dont see enough people out there as they would be. Friday is some people work from home on fridays. Its become a pretty clear trend. This is a look at the peninsula traffic you can see all the way into San Francisco. It looks good. No major issues here. And the peninsula and the south bay commute really have been light, and were not expecting anything to change on this friday in that regard. 719 lets talk about todays weather. Heres rosemary. All right, sal, another fabulous day across the bay area. Big changes coming though for saturday. Wet, cool breezy weather. Ill show you that coming up in just a moment. Lets take a look at what is going on over the Golden Gate Bridge this morning. Blue skies, a little bit of fog out there this morning and partly cloudy skies expected for the afternoon. As we get into the evening hours, though, well begin to see those clouds along the coastline moving across the bay. Heres a look at the storm still off the coast of washington, oregon. By this evening, right around sunset, its slipping into northern california. Ill stop it for you here at 8 00, sun will set at about 802 all the way into eureka. Were seeing a few sprinkles, but for us, its going to take until the overnight hours. And tomorro
