Support. Daca. This is the wiggle. Several blocks worth of streets marked with green bike route signs on the pavement where both cars and bicyclists share the road, zigzagging across the map for a mile from mission to haight. Anytime you have cars and people and bikes, you know its a its a dangerous formula. Fed up with what they feel are dangerous streets, members of safe street rebel took matters into their own hands. The group drilled these very official looking signs into the median on tuesday without city approval, warning drivers to yield to pedestrians and bikes. I loved them, i live right here and theres this big speed bump right here and you hear cars scraping over it all the time. And for the last couple of days it was quiet. Now, worried about being cited or sued, members of the group dont want to reveal their names or faces on camera. We really feel like sfmta needs to step up and just really drastically improve street safety. Neighbors have seen their fair share of accidents along the wiggle. One of our neighbors that happens to live across the street from the park was hit in his wheelchair. Its a horrific, extremely dangerous intersection. Safe street rebels also claims responsibility for creating their own fire lanes. This week by painting the curbs red along steiner street, even including a city logo. This is still not a safe route. Its still prioritizes cars. And with just a small with just some small improvements, it could be safer for everyone. Sfmta tells ktvu. While they appreciate the push for safer streets, the citys efforts are guided by engineering best practices and carry out thorough review of feasibility and effectiveness for new or proposed roadway designs. Organizers are hoping this sends a message to the city that more can be done out here to keep everyone safe while out on the streets in San Francisco. Joey jordan, ktvu, fox two News San Francisco Police will be focusing on what theyve described as the most dangerous intersection in the city. The standard reports officers will be monitoring nine intersections that have become hotspots for crashes. Some include larkin and eddie streets , fulton and park, presidio, Mission Street and dubose avenue as well. Police say speed is most often the factor when theres a deadly crash, and they hope their presence will help to slow drivers down. New at 11 tonight, Senate Candidate adam schiff is the latest victim of a car burglary in San Francisco. Schiffs car was in a Downtown Parking garage today when his luggage was stolen. This is a photo of him at a dinner in berlin. Burlingame. You can see hes in a vest and a shirt while everyone else is in suits. The dinner was hosted by attorney joe cotchett, who is supporting schiffs campaign. Schiff told the chronicle, yes, they took my bags, but im here to thank joe. We turn now to the ongoing protests on College Campuses across the country. Tonight, ucla is the latest university to see hundreds of students establish an encampment at the center of campus and a similar scene at rival usc, the university announced today it is canceling its main Graduation Ceremony due to security threats. The university still, though, plans to hold smaller graduation ceremonies here in the bay area. Demonstrators are still on stanfords campus and growing in numbers as more people have set up tents all throughout the night. Hundreds of people took part in a pro palestinian rally that happened earlier this afternoon, and they say they do plan on staying on campus all night. The students at stanford join other protests on campuses nationwide, calling for universities to divest from companies with ties to israel. Ktvu Lamonica Peters spoke with some of the students and has our report. At Stanford University, hundreds of propalestinian protesters gathered thursday afternoon chanting and marching on campus. We will not stop. We will not rest. This calls for mass. Through their chants, they called on the university to divest from what they call apartheid. Another twitter. No more money for israel slaughter. No more money for israel slaughter. Free palestine free free palestine. To divest means the university would divert money from its investments in companies that protesters believe are tied to israel and profit from the war in gaza. And if you really want to know what the students want, maybe just maybe, try to talk to them, try to sit down on a table with them, maybe try to listen to their chants once and not think about it as just some mob thats trying to destroy your house. Organizers at stanford are calling the movement the Peoples University of palestine , and say they want to establish an alternative Learning Space to raise political consciousness in white memorial plaza, supporters spoke about why they felt compelled to join the protest. I urge us to keep all of this in mind, that the black struggle in the palestinian struggle are inextricably tied to one another. As an International Student from vietnam, the only reason that im standing here right now is because a few decades ago, millions of students and people from all over the world and the us stood up and fought for us, for divestment, for our liberation, for the wars and the killings to stop. There are still dozens of students on campus here at stanford. They have tents set up, and they say they intend to stay overnight and continue the protest tomorrow. Now i reached out to Stanford University officials, and they say they support the students right to free speech. But if any of the University Policies are broken, they do intend to pursue disciplinary action. Lamonica peters ktvu, fox two news meantime, in berkeley, a student encampment continues to grow outside the administrative building on the cal campus. More protesters have set up tents in front of sproul hall. Demonstrators here have the same demands, including that the university condemn the violence in gaza. Uc berkeley says it has no plans to change its Investment Policies and practices. And as far as the protest goes, the University Says it does not plan to engage with the demonstrators unless there is a specific threat to public safety, and you can stay on top of our coverage of the israelhamas war, as well as the protests on our website, ktvu. Well we have a follow up tonight on a series of violent incidents at San Francisco county jails. Eight inmates have now been charged in connection with the alleged attacks on deputies that led to jail lockdowns. Ktvu is crystal bailey has reaction now from the sheriff and the Union Representing the deputies. I think its really important to see that as a step towards accountability. Eight inmates are charged with the attacks on deputies at the county jails. The incidents causing the sheriff to shut down the jails for several days. Injuries include bumps to the head and bite marks by an inmate who was restrained. We have deputies that enforce the rules and deputies that dont enforce the rules, so the ones that enforce the rules are the ones that become the focus of peoples anger or frustration. Half of those charged were in jail on murder charges. Three others had violent offenses like burglary and having a gun. We have to deal with making sure our staff are equipped, not just with, safety equipment, but also with the ability to deescalate situations and deal with people. Anytime someones exhausted or fatigued, it affects performance, it affects reactionary time, so all of this has an impact. Ken lomba with the San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs Association says ten deputies have been injured in three weeks. In all ten cases. He says the jail was short staffed. The deputy that was attacked on april 12th, if there was another deputy there with him in the, the attack could have stopped a lot sooner. Lombok calls the issue overtime. Slavery saying the deputies are working an average of 28 hours of overtime each week, affecting their health and performance. But the sheriff says they have 16 hours of mandatory overtime each week, and any additional overtime is voluntary. Its like you have to work overtime to accomplish what the Sheriffs Department wants to accomplish. Right now, our response times are the same. Theres less staff responding, but people will always come to help people in need. Last week, one of the inmates who was charged told us fights happen inside almost every day. Things are so out of control at the jail that inmates are starting to get unruly, because of the conditions that are going on at the jail, lomba is demanding the sheriff and the mayor prioritize hiring more deputies, but the sheriff says hes already working on it. He has just hired a full time recruiter, and hes making some attempts at getting some military members interested in Law Enforcement in San Francisco. If you want to head to those locations this weekend, we have a pretty nice forecast coming our way. But at least for today, lots of clouds and even some scattered showers moving quickly across the bay areas. That was the key element just within the past few hours. You can see the weather model here showing you the rain up to our north and also out toward the sierra. They will pick up some snowfall in the friday forecast, maybe 1 to 4in of snow in the lake tahoe area in the sierra. Heres the radar showing you that rain band moving across the bay area earlier this evening. Some lights and maybe some moderate cells. But right now you see the radar. This is the radar imagery. Over the past few hours, things have been moving out of town and moving out to the south. As we expand the view, you can see this is all kind of linked up with this system up here, and this will continue to send in some clouds and some moisture for tomorrow morning. So that means we will have some drizzle and maybe borderline light rain first thing tomorrow morning near portions of the coast, and especially for the coastal hills as well, showing you the winds right now, theres a bit of a breeze out toward novato. Winds gusting to 25 miles an hour, sfo westerly breeze at about 12 miles an hour, and san jose at about seven miles an hour. Heres our shaky camera looking out toward the bay bridge. We will continue to hold on to the breezy to windy conditions as we move into your friday forecast, and current numbers have cooled off into the 50s, so lots of clouds tomorrow morning. Drizzle the chance of some light rain kind of borderline there and then into the afternoon hours. Partly cloudy skies and gusty winds. Temperatures in the upper 50s to the upper 60s. So heres that system kind of settling in for tonight and into tomorrow. Once this moves on out, we will have clearing skies, or at least partly cloudy skies on saturday. And then on sunday a little bit of some warming. Heres the forecast models. You can see some clouds, maybe some drizzle or some light rain showers. This is 7 00 and then into the afternoon hours. Partly cloudy skies. Lets keep an eye on this action to our to our east that drifts closer. That could boost the shower chances. But the main energy should be to the east of the bay area. Highs for tomorrow will be in the upper 50s to the upper 60s. Lots of clouds in the mor
