Christian yeah, the public still paying their respects and saying their final farewells to senator Dianne Feinstein. But of course, before she was a senator, she was the mayor of San Francisco. And were joined now by the current mayor of San Francisco, london breed, and wanted to get your reflections on this day at this time, im with the senator lying in state here under the rotunda in city hall. Well its just been such an outpouring of love and support from san franciscans and people from all over. We started out with bringing the senator into city hall, into the rotunda. There were police fire, sheriffs, deputies, as well as the staff people whove worked for Dianne Feinstein over the years as mayor and as senator. Of course, her family was a part of that. And we have seen san franciscans from all over Alamo Elementary School and the kids from fifth grade were were here. They they wanted to be here. And so many San Francisco fans from everywhere, people who may not still even live in San Francisco wanted to be here to pay their respects. So it has been a very a good day for honoring her legacy and her commitment to this city and to this country. We have had Music Lessons from the symphony, who have been playing and, you know, its just such a beautiful little tribute, a beautiful tribute to senator feinstein and what she meant for san franciscans and the city and certainly her presence still felt here in city hall, despite the fact she worked in our nations capitol. Shes very much still felt here in city hall, in the office in which you occupy. Well, yes. And we have, you know, had a guests and people who have come up her statue is upstairs, flowers have been pouring in. I mean, you still feel her presence because of how actively engaged she was. I mean, i told the story me of how i played in this very rotunda when she was mayor. And she we were her band. We played for her. So it just i can think about those memories, those times, the excitement of the city, the challenges of the city. Of course, like any time, theres always challenges, but theyre also exciting things and try out a really great things that occur to. So she she represents all of that. I think about at the 40 niners and us winning all of those super bowls in the 80s and thats when the 40 niners became a dynasty. I think about just even my childhood and being in Elementary School junior high and high school and what that all meant. So she was an integral part of it. And she will always be someone that people who grew up in the city or those who had a chance to know her and the impacts of the legislation she did on their lives. She will always be an integral part of some aspect in peoples lives because of what she did around policy, but also her Visionary Leadership to get the city to where it is today. Weve been we will be celebrating fleet week. Its dedicated to senator feinstein and she brought fleet week to San Francisco in 1981. We celebrated pier 39 and its anniversary. She helped push the Visionary Leadership to create Something Like pier 39. It was very controversial and there was a lot of pushback, but its now one of the second celebrate most celebrated places for tourists to visit in San Francisco. So her her her, her mark is on so many pieces of this city. And i think that what we are doing here today, honoring her, she would have been really proud. Okay. San francisco mayor, london breed, thank you so much for sharing your recollections with us. I appreciate it. Mayor breed, just one of those currently in mourning here at San Francisco city hall. In just a moment, well show you that line of mourners who are still making their way past the casket to pay their final respects to senator Dianne Feinstein. The late senators casket arrived here at city hall shortly after 9 a. M. This morning, brought inside city hall where feinstein served as mayor for ten years from 1978 to 1988, an honor guard brought in the late senator and then the senators family. As you heard, the mayor say, were able to come in. They asked that the cameras be turned off for a few moments as they mourned. After that, a procession of city workers in uniform, staff, friends of the senator made their way past her casket and into the south light court, where they signed a condolence book. Many of them offering personal recollections of a woman they say could be demanding and tough, but always with the best of intentions for her constituents and for with an air of kindness. As the former speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, was among those paying her respects to a colleague and a friend. I was thinking of the words during the night about how gentle she was, but how strategic she was. And so she she she she knew her purpose and she would not be. She did things on her od them with gentleness. D mourners will be come to San Franciscos city hall and pay their respects under the rotunda today until 7 00 this evening. The senator is set to be laid to rest tomorrow. And coming back to our live shot, you can see the senator lying in state here with an honor guard flanking her. In a statement early wednesday morning, kaiser officials said they were still at the bargaining table and have been working through the night to come to an agreement. They said theres been a lot of progress with agreements reached on several proposals levels late at night and there committed to reaching an agreement tonight. I think weve made some progress on more of the middle tier areas, but the thing is, they have not bargained with us in good faith to solve the staffing crisis, which i would say is the number one issue. The plan is for the strike to last through saturday morning at 6 a. M. Unless there is an agreement reached before that.
