The defendants could face decades in federal prison if convicted. We heard from civil rights Attorney John Burris, who is suing Antioch Police on behalf of the alleged victims. Temperatures are expected to come down just slightly, and that will make it more comfortable for our inland cities. Upper 70s to upper 80s for the afternoon. Meanwhile, around the bay will go 70s and low 80s and along the coastline mid 60s to mid 70s. The morning clouds patchy drizzle out there this morning in addition to the mid and high level moisture that will continue in our area for the week. And more on that in your extended forecast coming up in a bit. Heres a view of hurricane hilary still a few hundred miles off the coastline of baja, california. Just there on the southern tip of los cabos reported 3 to 400 miles off the coastline. It is a category four right now. The winds, 145mph, moving west northwest at 13mph, which means it is going to make a path towards baja, california is expected to make landfall by sunday morning, a category one so likely to weaken with the cooler water as it moves ashore there near ensenada, at least thats what it looks like right now. And then as we get into sunday afternoon, evening, its expected to move into Southern California as a Tropical Storm. So we are tracking this for you. Of course, well have more on all that coming up in just a little bit. Back to you, mary. Thank you. Officials in california and residents alike are doing what they can to prep for what could be a once in a lifetime storm is Bailey Ocarroll has been tracking the preparations and joins us now to talk about is it going to be hurricane hillary . Tropical storm hillary just a lot of rain in california, i think, either way, right . I grew up in Southern California. I dont ever remember hearing or seeing anything like this growing up. So it could potentially be a hurricane. It could be a Tropical Storm. It would be the first one to hit california since the 1930s. Normally, the storm significantly weaken or fall together, fall apart altogether before reaching the state. Now as of this morning, as rosemary just mentioned, the hurricane is has been upgraded to a category four storm. And according to our weather experts, that storm will weaken before making landfall in california. But cities in Southern California are getting prepared by building sand berms in low lying areas and city leaders in coastal areas say beaches and piers may be shut down if need be. But the storm could also bring lightning with it, which as we know all too well here in california, can mean the potential for fires and it can also elevate the fire weather danger because outside of the hurricane center, its going to be much warmer, much more of a situation where fire weather is a concern. So really , the hurricane can change the entire weather pattern along the california coast. State officials are asking people for that reason to remain firewise. Its really going to be all hands on deck. Lifeguards are calling in. Everyone to work as they are expecting a swell. That would mean big waves for south facing beaches. The Us National Hurricane center said hillarys maximum sustained winds had risen to 120mph. So anyone in the storms path also being asked to take down or bring anything inside that could potentially be a hazard to blow away the California Office of Emergency Services is ensuring california residents that they are prepared for whatever this storm may bring along with it. Now, as rosemary, just mentioned, its expected to make land fall in baja, california by sunday. The strongest impacts in Southern California are expected to be felt sunday into monday. The last Tropical Storm to make landfall in Southern California, the exact date that was september 25th. And. 1939. All right, bailey, thank you. And im james torres. Just a couple of minutes past 830 this morning. Lets bring in miss rosemary oroczo this morning because weve got a hurricane on our tail end coming our way. Can you believe . Yes, were talking about that tropical System Holding together enough to maybe be a Tropical Storm when it enters Southern California on sunday. And well have more on that coming up in just a little bit. Meanwhile our local forecast changing ever so subtly today. Were going to bring temperatures down a little bit for our inland community. Is upper 60s at the coast to upper 80s inland. Yesterday we were in the 90s, so not likely to see many of those today we are waking up with the low clouds. A little bit of fog, patchy drizzle. So well check in on the current conditions. Line up your afternoon highs, talk about what to expect for the weekend, including hurricane hillary coming up in just a little bit. All right. We will look forward to that. Thank you, rosemary. Lets turn our eyes to the roads this morning for the friday morning commute. Its overall pretty light. James 831 there time this morning we continue to follow breaking news out of Martinez Police outside a dispensary after a car crash nearby. We have Amanda Quintana there. Amanda, what have you learned so far . What are you seeing right now . Yeah yeah. Well, james, there are still a lot of questions, but we know that this is something serious because police have been here for hours and they are still investigating. So i want to show you that blue car back there. That is what a lot of the investigators have been looking at. Theyve been looking in the trunk of the car for a while, taking pictures, kind of walking back and forth along this street and it looks like the front there of the car is very damaged as well as the side. So were still trying to figure out what exactly it crashed into. Obviously, more than kind of just the side of this street. But it looks like the airbag there in the front. And if you could take a look at this scene, its pretty big. So they originally it was a smaller crime scene. And then they moved the media back and they expanded it. So its pretty long along this whole block here. Now, theres a dispensary nearby, and its about at the end of this block near that big white van. But we are still trying to learn the connection between the dispensary and the crash. Police say they are responding to this crash, but they have not given details about what may have led to this crash. So we are still trying to figure that out and figure out the connection between the two. But thats velvet cannabis. We dispensary. And this is on Sunrise Drive here. Police have not confirmed what led up to the crash, but also havent said anything about who might have been in that car. Their condition as well. So were still waiting to learn that from police. But again, still a Large Police Presence here. The contra costa Sheriffs Office is here. Theyve been helping to kind of block off this road. Also, chp is helping block off the road. So still definitely an active investigation here. Live in martinez, Amanda Quintana, ktvu fox two news. Amanda thank you. The man accused of shooting at two san jose Police Officers and seriously injuring one of them is set to appear in court today. 44 year old Gabriel Carreras faces attempted murder charges. San joses police chief says carreras is a convicted felon with a long criminal history. Advocates for Domestic Abuse victims say the attack is a reminder about the risks police face when responding to these types of calls. The first thing that went through my mind is its most likely going to be an officer that was responding to Domestic Violence. Call the Us Department of justice says that more than 30 of all assaults on Police Officers happen while theyre responding to family disputes and bar fights. Authorities say better gun control laws could save lives. Its hard to say whether it could have made a difference or not. But one thing we know is that that it will make a difference in thousands of Domestic Violence and red flag law violations that happen each year. The Police Officer who was shot and injured is still in the hospital. We dont have an update on her condition, but the police chief says she is the second San Jose Police officer to be shot at work this year. And the high school where two students were stabbed is back open this morning. That happened yesterday morning at james luk high school, rather. James Lake High School in san jose. School staff told their students to stay inside the classroom during the event, police searched the School Campus for a suspect and for evidence that so far, investigators have not told us any information about a possible suspect or a motive. But School Officials confirm it all started with a fight on campus. Were just in class and we got a code blue and everybody was wondering what was happening. But nobody really knew until later on. They said that somebody got stabbed. It was scary. Yeah, i dont know. Its just like i. Youre supposed to feel like safe at school. Police say one student suffered life threatening injuries, but both students are recovering. All right. 835. Were switching gears to a totally different story in a different part of the bay. Were talking about mornings on to the nine on the road for a zip trip in novato. Yeah, were just about a half hour away from there. Ktvu Gasia Mikaelian andre senior theyre both out there this morning and we talked to you guys. The first thing i always look at how thick are their jackets . Doesnt look like you need much today. Good morning guys. So its interesting. You know, its a best kind of day for andre. Its gray and its cool, but its so comfortable. You guys know, especially up in this part of the bay area, it can be sweltering this time of year and weve escaped that misery, thank goodness. We do expect the sun to come out and we want you to stop by and say hi as well as we are kicking off an hour of loving novato. Yes. And we are going to begin this with a look at the Animal Shelter. The marin county Animal ShelterHumane Society and its run by Nancy Mckinney who joins us here live on the set to talk a little bit more. Nancy thank you so much for joining us. You guys have been around since 1968, doing a lot of wonderful things. And we know you are the Humane Society and Animal Shelter there. But youre more than an Animal Shelter. Tell us about that, nancy. Exactly. Well, marin humane was located or originally founded in 1907 in marin county, moved its location main campus in 1968. And on our campus, we have behavior and Training Classes for anybody who has a dog wants to know how to get along better with it, how to make it more wellbehaved. We have summer camps that just ended up and we also do the enforcement as well as the adoption of animals that need new homes. So were doing a lot more than just sheltering unwanted unhoused or available animal for adoption. We do a lot more to help the Community Stay happy and healthy with their animals, be enjoying animals, understanding animal welfare. So we do a lot of education and advocacy as well. So, you know, people are always surprised when they walk through a campus. They go, we didnt realize you do so much. Yeah, this is more than just bringing a Family Member home. Weve reported far too often recently on bay area Humane Societys really trying to help people keep their animals and in many cases, the people say, im overwhelmed, i lost my lease. I have to move back in with my parents. I just cant keep my animal. How are you doing . And meeting that specific need . Well, we have definitely seen an increase in our requests for support for resources to help people, even if its with a pet deposit that might have gone up over the last couple of years. Or they need help with veterinary care, food, food, food. Were delivering every month to needy pet owners. And we call it our pet safety net program. And we do work with the clients to make sure because we want to keep the animals in the home, we really dont want them coming to a shelter given up. I mean, people see their animals as Family Members, their pets, but they really are Family Members and they love them. And financially, its more expensive to get an animal, to keep an animal to care for an animal. So marin humane has definitely increased our funding and gone for more grants and donations to be able to help keep these animals in their homes. We really want to transform lives no matter what both ends of the leash. We want to help people love and respect and keep their animal, but we also want to help the animals with their welfare, their health needs and their care. Nancy, sounds like youre adjusting to the changing times where when it comes to pet owners are concerned. We also want to get to this. You are also helping with pet owners in maui, and thats going to be happening today as well. Tell us a little bit about that quickly. Well, tonight, were ready for a big transport of 80 pets are being flown into the bay area and about five Animal Shelters have teamed up. And we are going to be taking those animals and putting them up for adoption. Now these were animals that were in the maui Humane Society shelter up for adoption so that they can clear up their shelter space to help the victims who might need help with their animals. They certainly need that right now. Nancy mckinney with the Humane Society based here in nevada. And nancy, thank you so much. We appreciate it. Thank you. Such good work being done there at the marine Humane Society. All right. As we focus a full juicy hour on nevada, i know you want to know where can i have breakfast . Right. You have so many choices when it comes to breakfast. I know, andrea, you were familiar with scones and muffins. Yes, i am. Very much so dangerously familiar. But have you ever heard or even had a skupin. Were going to explain what that is. It is a unique nevada treat that youll find only in the sweet north bay town and once you get through breakfast, we have you covered for lunch and dinner with our taste of the town and our Sal Castaneda got to sit down and have a beer with one of the most famous names in brewing and you will learn more about that coming up in his taste of the town. Great. A scuffing. Something else on my plate that i have to eat. Oh, my god. Im going to have to try it. Yes. Since youre putting your twisting my hand here and we all drive by highway 101. Its a big building. That big warehouse with a triangle shaped roof. Yeah. You see that one right there . Whats this building all about . We see that sign that says birkenstock right outside. Well, we have someone that can give us some insight into the building. Its past what its all about. If you ever wondered about it. We have just a man were going to be talking to here live in just a few minutes to tell us a bit more about what many people call the birkenstock building. Right off of highway 101 here in nevada. It has a great history, hopefully a great future as well. All right. So when you say nevada, a lot of people have kind of ideas and pictures that pop up into their mind. I told my boys that ive got a zip trip coming up. Were going to nevada. They both looked at me and said in unison, bike park. Yes. And i think yes, bike park. You are taking a look at one of the most Amazing Things this north bay town has to offer. There is a bike park up at stafford lake. You can bring your mountain bike, you can bring your bmx, you bring whatever two wheels you have and spend the day. I am telling you, bike, park, picnic. Ive taken many long walks around stafford lake. Its an incredible place for the whole family. More than a full days worth of entertainment and outdoor fun. Perfect time of year for that. So we have our Frank Mallicoat up at stafford lake. And he i dont know if hes getting on two wheels. I dont think so. But its one of those fun. If he did. But it would be fun. Its one of those places where if you havent been to stafford lake, just come bring your friends and family. Youll spend the whole day and then want to come back. So thats just a taste, james and ali, of what weve got coming up here for full hour zip trip in nevada this week. And its going to be a packed show for you guys looking forward to that. You know, i have a little bit of beef with nevada because theres a middle school there. I Coach Middle School soccer and volleyball, and we have a nice little rivalry going on. They beat us a little more often than id like. But lets lets talk a little bit about where exactly you guys are. I mean, i look behind you, the grass is beautifully green. The buildings are nice and brick, where can we find you . So we are actually at the civic green. We are right off of 101. This is exactly where they have concerts and the Community Comes out. This is the Perfect Place to come and kind of see your neighbors again, meet new friends. So this is what they call the civic green. And then we have Frank Mallicoat, Claudine Wong and south castaneda kind of around town here. I mean, nevada, its a sizable town. But the thing about this town is that its not really densely populated. So you can feel like youre all the way across town. Theres room to breathe. And i always say that nevada was just far enough away kind of from the very heart, the core of the bay area. Yeah, but its still close enough where you even have coworkers who live up in this area. Youre not driving forever, but. But you drive far enough that youre like, okay, like im sort of in the country. Thats what city folks. Exactly, exactly. All right. So we got all that more coming up. All right. Im going to take some notes. I didnt know about that bike park. So i have a ten year old who would like to do what your sons do there. So im going to be looking forward to that. Well check back with you guys right on in just a few minutes. Thanks well, tourism in san fr cisco is making a come ck hen housing is still on hold. And the woman in charge of it, heather parker, it has been her dream to give back to families in need. Where do you want to go . Dont look at him. This has been parkers dream since she was in college. After she volunteer at a horse therapy program. And for the last two decades, she has made sure one thing about her program has never changed. I think one of the most important things that was my mission and my goal was to make this accessible to everybody. So a lot of the families i met early on said, you know, it was helping, but they just couldnt afford it anymore. And, you know, kids with special needs have a lot of financial, you know, required payments. Theres occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy. And so i think the first thing on the chopping block tends to be the horse therapy. So i thought, gosh, if there was some way i could raise enough money and make this free , wouldnt that be amazing . And ive been able to do that for 20 years. Ive never charged giving back gives everyone out on that trail something special. Maybe its physical improvements or verbal progress, but its also something more. Heather parker will tell you something just happens on that trail between a horse and its rider. The horse provides the magic and its pretty hard to define for explain. Its theres something there for sure. So excited to introduce you and tell you more about hooves for harmony. All right, back out here live at morningstar farm. This is where the morningstar vaulters again are practicing for us. Theyre going to give us a little demonstration coming up, even more than what youre seeing now. And so really just a Remarkable Group of folks who have come out to share their passion and their love.
