Its in los gatos there, pam. Southbound 17 near the cats restaurant. You can see it here. Southbound 17, this crash involving a car that hit a wall and unfortunately it was a deadly crash. You can see most of the lanes are blocked here as chp and tow crews get ready to take the car away. But it happened just before 3 00 this morning. And, at one point, it was blocking all the lanes. Northbound 17, the other way. Thats the typical commute direction. These days we havent had much of a commute as you understand, but still, it has been causing a little bit of a slow down. So if youre driving on 17 southbound, you can expect a slow down and use a little bit of extra care there. Dave and pam, lets go back to you. Governor newsom says california needs 20,000 hospital beds to handle an increase in the coronavirus cases. Thats a lot. California will need many more beds if things get worse. Right now we have 78,000 hospital beds but doctors worry that may not be enough. Meantime, the governor is closing the parking lots of state parks and beaches to reduce the number of people going there. Right now, california has more than 2,200 people infected with the coronavirus. One of the five people who tested positive for the coronavirus at a peninsula assisted living facility has died. San Mateo County Health<\/a> is on site at atria burlingame to maintain the residents working there. Two workers at laguna in a honda hospital in San Francisco<\/a> have also tested positive for the virus. We want to take a look at the coronavirus outbreak county by county in our region. Santa clara has the most at 321 cases followed by San Mateo County<\/a> at 142. San francisco has 131. Here are some of the other counties just outside the bay area. Santa cruz has 22 cases. Mendocino has one and no cases in lake county. Santa claras Convention Center<\/a> is being transformed now into a temporary medical station during the coronavirus pandemic. 250 beds are going to be set up inside the Convention Center<\/a> for treating people who have medical problems but dont have the coronavirus. It would be bringing in the beds, oxygen, pharmaceutical needs. Caring for 250 for a short Term Duration<\/a> of care. The Santa Clara County<\/a> Convention Center<\/a> is one of eight federal medical stations being set up here in california also, today, Santa Clara County<\/a> supervisors will relieve funding. The board wants to help Community Based<\/a> and nonprofit organizations working to prevent homelessness, hunger and other needs of people affected by the home crisis. The board also announced it is meeting by teleconference to maintain social distancing. Also, San Francisco<\/a>s board of supervisors will use homes. San franciscos already negotiating for more than 8,000 hotel rooms in the city to be used for emergency purposes. Including those living in communal situations. The goal here is to not overwhelm the lab. We have to be able to be responsible and administer a certain amount of tests that the lab can process. Hayward firefighters and paramedics are administering the free tests. Theyre open to anyone. It doesnt matter where you live. Test results are expected back within less than 24 hours. Theres also drivethru testing in walnut creek. You cant just show up for a test. A doctor as to set up an appointment for you and your id will be checked when you arrive the governors of oregon and washington have each issued a stay at home order. 16 states in oregon that includes closing arcades, gyms, hair salons. The coronavirus pandemic is putting jury trials in california on hold. The state chief justice ordered the suspension of all Supreme Court<\/a> jury trials for 60 days. The chief justice made the announcement last night saying the courts cant operate as usual and s. With schools closed, possible jurors have to stay at home with their children. However, local courts can choose to conduct some of their business since the courts are considered an essential service. The airlines are drafting plans for a possible shutdown of passenger flights. According to the wall street journal, representatives from the Airline Industry<\/a> and the government say while no final decisions are being made, the airlines are struggling with the limited number of passengers. Passenger flow is down 80 from a year ago. Ges Aviation Wing<\/a> is set to lay off 10 of its Domestic Work<\/a> force. About 2600 employees from its jet Engine Department<\/a> will be affected as the layoffs are set for the next few months. Half of its maintenance.
