Take a look at whats going on right now. This is part of the operation that will go on for hours and hours. The wind is blow which is just perfect for additional fires, and they want to make sure that doesnt happen. About an hour and a half ago, 911 got a call of a brush fire in the black point area of east novato in marin county. The fire, which was stopped at about nine acres, threatened numerous rural homes, leading to evacuations of five streets. Units from cal fire, marin fire, willmar, san rafael fire, and novato fire, all were aided by two aerial tankers that made short work of the fire spreading in gusty winds. Anytime you have dry brush, high winds, on a hot day, its never a good thing. But thankfully, out of an abundance of caution, we issued evacuation orders, and with the quick workinside, we were watching tv, and the sheriff came through on the loudspeaker and told everybody theres a fire at the top of the hill. Everybody needs to evacuate, so my girlfenand i grabbed everything important, and i called everybody important, my loved ones, and i grabbed everything they woheaded out. The sheriff blocked off the neighborhood and nobody was allowed in. Cleanup will go on for hours and hours, amazingly, there are no reports of injury or property damage, thanks to the overwhelming First Response efforts that paid off, and paid off handsomely. We have had not alive fires this year, but now with these wins we will start seeing it, and that is exactly whats going on right here. We will stay here to see what else is going on, and hopefully we will not see any more fires, one of the problems, its obvious that the fire started on the side of the 237, which was westbound, then jumped across the road and went up the hillside the threatening homes. We will keep a lookout for you and we will be talking to you later. Tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. They were able to jump on the fire quickly, and continued without damage. Tom, thank you. A city of oakland employee who helped select members of the Police Commission is in trouble with the law herself. Henry lee has been digging more into this case, and he joins us now live in the newsroom with more on the Surveillance Video the captured everything. Reporter this employee pleaded no contest to embezzlement two months ago, now we started asking questions this morning, and the woman resigned. It turns out she never alerted anyone that shed embezzled thousands of dollars from home depot. Go ahead and turn around for me, hands behind your back. This is a video showing Emeryville Police arresting candace jesse in december for repeatedly stealing from the Cash Register at the home depot, where she also works. As Christmas Music plays in the back row, jesse told officers she did not want to talk to them. Surveillance video tells the story. Police say she was caught on camera stealing money 27 different times over a four month period. Police say she used the Cash Register to hide the fact that she was pocketing cash. 30 say she stole more than 6000 from home depot, she spent two days in jail and pleaded no contest in july to a misdemeanor count of embezzlement. She is very remorseful for this activity, and she will make amends. Her defense attorney said his client has hit a rough patch lately. She would admit that it was wrong, but she had a lot of circumstances, she had a death in the family and some other issues going on. Persons who were would not b barred from this selection process. For the past two years, jesse helped take from the oakland Police Commission which oversees the departments policies. But on tuesday after i began asking about the case, jesse resigned as a vice that year of the commission panel. Her court case was handled right across from the Oakland Police department where years ago she worked as a grant writer. I spoke to the coalition for Police Account ability, which monitors oakland lease oversight issues. Spank its ry ironic, because when i first met ms. Jesse she worked for the Oakland Police department. So this becomes very ironic. Now with her resignation today, accounts member will likely appoint her replacement. And henry, so jesse pleaded guilty, as you mentioned here, months ago, so after she pleaded guilty, no one at the city level got wind of this conviction for embezzlement . She pleaded no contest and did not proactively tell anyone, of course, until i started making inquiries today, and the city administrator said we havent heard anything. Than a couple of hours later she said she turned in her resignation. Urth straight day o flight delays and cancellations in San Franciscos international airport. Giving you a live look at the airport this afternoon, a three week runway closure is the cause of all the travel disruptions. So far today 300 flights have been either delayed or canceled, and you can imagine how frustrating all of this is for passengers. Some airlines are now offering travelers options. Reporter its day four of this 20 day runway repair project at sfo and delays and cancellations continue. Officials say they are on track to finish the work by september 26, but passengers are losing patience. Frustrations. Carlos aguilera wanted to address the city. And julie was going to take a tango class. Where are we going to go . They are just two of many passengers who were forced to change their plans, due to flight delays and cancellations at San Francisco international airport. The mac i had to give my dog to the kennel, and i had to do a number of things to accommodate the change. There have been four days, and there is 16 days left until the work is finished. The airports secondlongest runway intersects with two other runways, and its causing pavement cracks and unplanned closures. The runway is shut down to create a new service, and e dra infrastructure. The work is necessary, even if its frustrating. Were looking to go to the main desk of United Airlines to see if they can make up for something. I probably will try to reschedule out of oakland maybe, there i dont know. Make another accommodation. There will be the same possibility of a reschedule or cancellation. Strike the Santa Clara County board of supervisors have approved a plan to increase funding for races centers to s this psupport operators of Crisis Centers. The bulk of that money would go to the ymca silicon valley, and the rest to community solutions, which has offices in san jose, morgan hill and gilroy. Supervisor say this money is necessary because the governors budget did not renew 5 million in onetime funding for Crisis Centers across the state. We are going to end up spending in our county, close to probably a little over 2 million. The state of california should be finding these. If they were to fund these programs, we would be able to use the 2 million for other kinds of treatment. Counseling, job placement, all of the stuff that victims need after something so horrific happens to them. Next, the county plans to open Sexual Assault forensic exam clinics in gilroy and palo alto. A woman had to be rescued from the water off a farm island in alameda, it happened at about four clock this morning. Video shows the response from firefighters and other emergency teams. The new team coming to town, thanks in part to oakland zone. Plus, a ballgame and a concert happening at the same time and two different venues in the same neighborhood, one last reminder about the traffic troubles you might face if headed into the city tonight. It is going to be a big night in San Francisco. For the First Time Ever there will be events at both oracle arena, oracle park rather, and the new chase center. Both of them happening at the same time. Event goers should be prepared if heading into the city for any event. Tonight is the first time there are two major events scheduled to happen in the same area, around the same time since chase center opened about a week ago. The first concert at that venue was on friday with metallica performing with the San Francisco symphony. There were no major issues or problems, just the usual congestion that People Living and working around here are used to. We are really pleased by the number of people who listen to us and took Public Transportation. Within tonight will definitely be a new set of challenges. We think the city is up to it, and weve done everything we can to encourage people and give them the opportunities to take other modes of transportation. Some of the people who live and work new chase center in the Mission Bay Neighborhood certainly hope thats the case. They tell us they are waiting to see just how crowded it can get here tonight. I will leave about 330 3 32 4, it wont be a problem. It wont be a gridlock. At 4 30, 5 00, then forget it. I know there was a metallica concert the other day, but we shall see. We have one collea up renting a parking space because she coularound here. Its San Francisco, we wait in line to get stuck in traffic earlier this morning the massive screen on the side of the taser center had the full bart and uni schedule for everyone to see, making it clear that Public Transit is a priority. And another incentive, anyone who has a ticket to any event at chase center can use that ticket to ride uni for free. And for tonights concert, uni will offer free shuttle ride, the concert starts at 8 00 tonight, and the giants game at 6 45 at oracle park. Joining us not to talk more about what we can expect in San Francisco tonight is erica kato, so tell us, what is muni doing to get all those folks to and from the events we have going on tonight in San Francisco. It thats right, so we will be serving bowill we be running additional Train Service to get people to chase center as well as the 70 and 79 express buses, but we will also get trains reto serve people headed to the giants game as well. Is you look at it tonight, with two dueling events happening in the city, what is the biggest challenge for muni . The biggest challenge will be to remind people to take Public Transit, followup with other sustainable modes of getting to events, so bicycling is good, walking, things like that, taking Public Transportation. We advise people not to drive to these events. And so we have the first events over this past weekend at chase center, that was really the first test for the chase center, did you feel like, as an organization, did you have enough people that were using Public Transportation . Absolutely we did see an s,u shuttles, those are services we typically dont have. But people were taking them to and from the event. We also have plenty of staff in the field, they are directing people and helping traffic move. And we learned a lot and will continue to learn as we see more events at chase. Certainly a learning process. Finally, before we wrap up, a lot of folks maybe will want to take a uber or lyft, but i understand around the chase center there is sort of a blackout zone, a couple of blocks, where you are not going to be able to have a hubris and lyft picking folks up, how does that blackout zone work and where will peopsmack . So we do have extensive maps over on our website, and that will show people where they need to stand, where pickup and drop off is, but really Public Transportation is your best bet, front door of chase. Thats erica kato, gearing up for a very busy night in San Francisco, giants ballgame, and the Dave Matthews concert in the chase center. We appreciate you coming on, thank you. At least 50 people are now confirmed it dead in the bahamas. But officials expect that number to continue rising as recovery crews meet or reach more devastated areas from hurricane dorian. Thousands of survivors are headed to nassau now, where the shelters are overflowing with evacuees. Reporter crews keep locating victims in the bahamas, more than one week after the powerful hurricane slammed into the islands. Dozens are confirmed dead, many more still missing. Tens of thousands of people are now homeless, their houses obliterated by the hurricane, or damaged by the point that they are unsafe to live in. Many evacuees from abaco island are being housed in the bahamian capital of nassau and the national stadium, a makeshift density for storm survivors with nowhere else to go. Others are reluctantly leaving their homes, people like sonny desantis, who has a family to think about. Spamming i have many survivors plan to dart rebuilding as soon as they can. Motivated by all the international support. The one thing that gives us hope, and hope is gone right now, but it seems to be trickling back in, is seen to people that care. People from groups like the World Kitchen say this is what they do, step up when they are needed most. We are making 15,000 sandwiches do today. In addition to official relief groups, organizations like cruise lines are also helping. So far more than 3500 people have been evacuated, tent cities are springing up here quickly. In nassau, steve harrigan. Meantime, here in the bay area, another slightly cool day, at least thats what i would call it. A kind of has been a nice little break, and then the extreme heat, but that will be changing. We are heading toward the peak of fire season, and also hurricane season, we are heading toward the peak as well. Heres the headline, we are forecast, setting the stage for thursday and friday, friday will be the hottest day of the week, and that means temperatures inland right around 100 degrees, or at least in the upper 90s. Interesting though, we are talking about the heat up, we actually have showers and thunderstorms to the north and east of the bay areas. Developing out toward east of chico, right around quincy as well. Back here in the bay area, we will check in on some of the current numbers, santa rosa 83, concord 81, san jose 76 and oakland checking in at 72 degrees. As far as the wind speeds, the winds have been up, you can see 6 to 18 miles an hour, oakland at about 17, and look at that sfo gust, gusting to 36 miles an hour this afternoon. Our life, looking out toward downtown San Francisco, in the clear for this even
