Democrats are promising to press forward on a number of investigations. So help you god. Robert mueller knew he would be in for a long day. And the critic in chief wasted little time weighing in. I think Robert Mueller did a horrible job. Both today and with respect to the investigation. But in all fairness to Robert Mueller, he had nothing to work with. But that review aside, democrats think they scored some points here with mueller. Did you actually totally exonerate the president. No. Muellers appearance before two committees yesterday were part of a democratic effort to at the very least, animate a lengthy written report that they think makes a solid case against the president. Republicans who took part would have none of it. The bedrock principle of our Justice System is a presumption of innocence. It exists for everyone. But some of his fellow republicans in the house oppose billions of dollars in new spending. The House Freedom caucus, made up of more than 30 republican lawmakers say theyre going to vote against that bill because they have grave concerns about it. President trump has vetoed three bills that would have blocked his administration from selling americanmade weapons to saudi arabia in the united arab emirates. Now, in his veto message, the president says the measure would, quote, weaken americas Global Competitiveness and damage important relationships we share with our allies and partners. At the moment, lawmakers do not appear to have the votes to override the president s veto. And jeffrey epstein, the accused trafficker being held in a new york jail cell, reportedly was found in his cell neck injury. Reportedly he was found semi conscious. New york media is reporting he may have tried to hang himself. But it also possible he may have been hurt by someone else. In the bay area, San Francisco police say a tesla was not on auto pilot mode when that car slammed into and killed a man from the Central Valley and severely injured his wife. Investigators plan to go over information from the teslas storage device to figure out the drivers actions leading up to that crash on sunday. The police are accusing 21yearold Kelsey Cambridge of running a red light. The tesla car she was in hit 39 yearold Benjamin Dean of they were taylor and ofarrell streets. And in livermore, police are offering a 2500 reward. They want to find a homicide suspect. 21yearold jorge tellez is accused of getting into an argument with the victim, sceneyearold emmanuel mosby. Police say tellez then shot mosby in the stomach. Mosby was rushed to the hospital but he died the next morning. The victim went to livermore high school. He played on the Junior Varsity football team. A San Bruno Fire Department secretary is scheduled to appear in court today, charged with propositioning a teenage boy for sex. Gary carson passed a sexually explicit note to a 16yearold boy in may. He then tried to confront the boy in the parking lot two days later. Carson has pled not guilty and is now out on bail. The ghost ship warehouse trial is on a break this week. Before closing arguments start monday. Defense lawyers have been speaking out to our cameras throughout the case, making their arguments every day. But prosecutors have kept quiet outside of the courtroom. Ktvu Crime Reporter henry lee profiles the two men who were hoping for convictions in that warehouse fire, where 36 people were killed. The two Alameda County prosecutors who are trying the ghost ship case are casey bates and james. James has been a prosecutor since 2005. Hes handled everything from murder trials to white collar crimes to unfair charges. He made the change after a big career switch. We just want anybody who has heard anything, saw anything, to come forward and let us know. James spent 20 years as a san leandro officer, rising to the level of sergeant. He investigated murders, drug and juvenile crime. James was lieutenant rocket mcmanniss training officer. Autry for his career in san leandro. And now the district attorneys office, he is a man who has sut sought justice for the people he represents. Fellow d. A. Was brought in for the case after the sudden departure of david lim, who left the d. A. s office, right before jury selection. Lim is now criminal defense and land use attorney. He declined to comment about why he left when he did. Bates has handled a variety of cases including murder, child sexual assault, Domestic Violence and human trafficking. Casey bates is a very dynamic, charismatic person. Very good speaker. Understands the law. Really good advocate. Off duty, bates and james are friends. In court together. Those who know them say theyre a force to be reckoned with. Theyre both good lawyers. Theyre going to be good at trial. Theyre class action in the courtroom and i expect them to be that way in this trial. Ernie castillo says both prosecutors have shown their skill while grilling defense witnesses. On crossexamination specifically, theyre going to be cool and calm and very deliberate. And their questions are going to be very substantive. And i think everyone is going to be hanging on every word that they ask. The prosecutors have declined to investigate this case. But in the end, it will be the jurys verdict that matters the most. Ktvus rob roth spoke to ken burns and spoke to several inmates about what the visit meant to all of them. Reporter here, behind these grim walls of san quentin prison, inmates met with special visitors wednesday. This is a central that bill. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker, ken burns. Its a story were telling. Among the inmates,. Rich rich richardson. Whoa is serving 47 years. Airing on pbs in september. I want him to be part of a big broad family. Part of it is how johnny cashs 1999 performance inspired one of its inmates, Merle Haggard, who after his release, went on to become an icon of country music. Burns screened about 100 inmates. Many were clearly moved. I want to you know how much i appreciate what youre doing. I really do. It touches my heart. And i am honored by it. For many of the inmates here. The story of Merle Haggard has a deeper meaning. A meaning say they can carry while theyre here. And perhaps carry if they ever get out. He kind of like changed his life around. And thats something we are all trying to do. Javier jimenez is serving nine years for manslaughter. Kind of like a glimmer of hope. Burns is known for his meticulously researched documentaries.
