I am alyana gomez, first were taking a look at interstate 80 following a horrific crash that happened after five this morning at the bay bridge toll plaza, traffic was heavy and slow moving for more than 12 hours today. Traffic has picked up just a bit but still quite a lot of cars on the road today. The traffic backup still keeps the cars back there with the red light. The Highway Patrol says a box truck abruptly hit several cars before plowing through a toll booth killing the toll taker. All lanes are now open. Chp investigating what went wrong, officers arrested a truck driver 32yearold daniel berg for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Here is more on the arrest. Reporter at 510 saturday morning a box truck traveling westbound approaching the bay bridge toll plaza collided with multiple vehicles, before plowing through one toll station. California Highway Patrol says the truck began its approach to the toll in one of the left hand lanes. But it crossed diagonally through several lanes. Cmac it lost control and struck at least five other vehicles waiting in line to go to the toll plaza. It continued on and came to rest after striking a tollbooth. Reporter chp says it crashed through the number 14 tollbooth, the toll operator was killed. The box truck finally stopped several feet fat past the toll plaza. The driver and passenger were both ejected suffering significant injuries. Reporter the driver and passenger were taken to highland hospital. The occupants and the other vehicles all suffered injuries but none was lifethreatening. 46yearold si si han was the tollbooth operator killed in the crash, she had been a tollbooth operator for more than 10 years. This is the worst nightmare. When we have Something Like this happen to one of our coworkers. Reporter saturday afternoon the governor expressed condolences to her family. The Union President says members are mourning the loss of si si han. Not only did she serve our state with distinction for 10 years, she was also a wife mother and friend to many of us. Our deepest condolences go out to si si hans family coworkers and all who knew her. She leaves behind a husband and 10yearold daughter. Saturday afternoon chp said it arrested the box truck driver 32yearold daniel burke of foster city for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. The governor ordered flags to be flown at half staff in memory of the total caloric are si si han. Monday morning at least one tollbooth is likely to be out of commission. In oakland, talks to news. Today marks exactly one year since the ghost ship warehouse in oakland burned killing 36 people. The warehouse was an artist collective, the building had hazardous issues that the city was aware of but local leaders say the ghost ship fell through the cracks. They were honored all day here from this site and tonight between 11 and midnight nightclubs will do the same honoring the victims with a moment of silence. Two investigates that the buildings owner received a 3 million insurance payout from the deadly fire. His lawyers say the victim was found in open space and the application she was located behind the dumpster was unfair to turner. Turner spent three months in jail. Uc Berkeley Police are looking for the man accused of attacking a student with a cane. The assault happened on thursday, knelt near ellsworth street and durand avenue. The student was receiving medical treatment when the police arrived. The suspect attacked the victim from behind with a cane, the victim suffered an injury to the back of his head. Oakland fire Officials Say a 200 foot section of the peer fell into the water along with four shipping containers. No one was hurt and we are told there are no signs of any Hazardous Materials leaking into the water. They were big containers but again they only contained building materials, wire, conduit, pvc pipe. They will take on water and sink and stick into the mud so we dont have any concern of them floating into the navigable waterway at this time. The developer says it appears the peer collapsed under the weight of the construction material. The peer was going to be demolished to make way for a new Housing Development in park. Work on the project will continue over the next 18 months. A group of very special children took a magical flight from the San Francisco airport to the north pole this afternoon. It was part of United Airlines fantasy Flight Program for more than 66 children and their families. The entire boeing 777 was decked out with decorations for the one hour trip over the Golden Gate Bridge, and then back. The kids saw the ocean and lots of clouds but the highlight of the day, old saint nick. Parents said it was a rare timeout for children dealing with health challenges.
