Fuel trucks Getting Police and military escorts this morning and the florida with governor rick scott saying that a shipment of 300,000 gallons of fuel was unloaded at the port of tampa. They are working to disseminate that across the state, urging all the gas stations to state open as soon as possible, promising to help the workers and owners out of the area ahead of the storm if they will stay to help people get filled up. There are hundreds of thousands of people in the Miamidade County area, an estimated 6 million floridians in the path of the storm. Some people are rushing to the airport to get out of the state, and they are concerned that no place in florida could be untouched by the hurricane. Tomorrow, nobody would be working here. Be patient, wait and hopefully the storm will stay on track and it will not hit until saturday, and we will be out of here. We take a better look at the damage that the hurricane has caught in the caribbean and this is the French Island of sint maarten with 95 of the homes and properties destroyed. The Dutch Military has brought in some additional supplies to some of the ravaged ports, helping the folks on the ground with the aid and supplies. This is already claimed 10 lives in the caribbean with the number of deaths expected to rise as they assess the damage. Hurricane irma is heading toward the turk, k coast and the bahamas with part of it expected the clip haiti and the Dominican Republic. They have the northern part of the islands in the northern coastal areas of cuba evacuating. Florida is in the path of the storm and evacuations continue across south florida making school buses for the people with special needs to get out. The word is out to everyone from the governor to be ready to evacuate no matter what coast you live on because the storm can easily change its path. For more on irma we go straight to our meteorologist mark tamayo. This storm is constricted on his past path moving 16 miles an hour to the west northwest which has remained unchanged. This is a powerful major category 5 hurricane with the wind up to 185 miles an hour. Heres the welldefined eye of the storm, and the turks and k coast, tracking with the threat toward florida into the weekend. There kurt came hurricane watch has been issued and in place today. This will likely turning to warning into the weekend and possibly as early as friday. Here is a look at the forecast models showing the different lines, and what is one clear signal is that all of these lines are fairly packed together, and as a result they agree on the path of the hurricane which is what the Hurricane Center is making to look at their path, and that is what they have projected on the forecast. This will eventually get weaker as a category 4 hurricane, and we back this map out to show you. Moving it to saturday you can see gets position with possibly 155 mile an hour wind, and then sunday up to 145 mile an hour wind, still a major hurricane. When you get a major hurricane like that in addition to the strong wind and the rain, storm surges a huge factor as well. Looking at both of the oceans, the Ocean Temperatures as weekly to the west for comparison, and 75 degrees, and closer to home at the path of the hurricane, 86 to 89 degrees, and that warm water temperature is fueling the hurricane to remain strong. That will remain the case heading into friday and especially through the weekend for south florida. We will continue to watch the path of irma and have more coming up. A number of emergency crews from the bay area are heading out to offer help as the hurricane inches closer to florida, the flights carrying local firefighters and First Responders out of the Oakland Airport this morning. The search and rescue specialists have been in high demand lately with the local firefighters returning from texas a few days ago dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. This morning they have afforded boarded the flights heading to these coast to help those in the path of Hurricane Irma. Reporter responding to the next mission with dozens of the bay area firefighters with the california tax force 4 arriving at the oakland Maintenance Facility early this morning together their gear as they had to these coast and Hurricane Irma is closing in on the u. S. They are flying first to atlanta, staging at the nearby military base, and once it makes landfall, fema will direct them where to go, an assignment that comes with much uncertainty. Im feeling a little bit nervous, a little bit overwhelmed and not knowing what to expect. This is my first deployment, and ive seen what is happened in the past with the hurricanes, and hitting florida, but the predictions show it will hit this weekend. I am prepare for the worst. Reporter the task force is being headed up by the open Fire Department including members from the Alameda CountyFire Department, berkeley Fire Department and the fremont Fire Department. They specialize in urban search and rescue, ktvu. Com respond to disasters of all types across the country. We are the Swiss Army Knife and we can do waterbased activities, water rescue, water evacuations, and we can do search and rescue. We can secure the damaged buildings, and we have four k9 teams that can go with us to search for people being buried. Reporter 80 firefighters is on their way to the east coast to deal with this aftermath. Many of these men and women have just returned from texas where they were rescuing people from the floodwaters brought on by Hurricane Harvey. The fremont fire fighter, aisha just got home on monday after spending a few days with his family, back to work to help those in need on the other side of the country. In texas, we almost expected to stay there knowing that irma was coming. We did have some time up to give us a reset and to see our families. When you going to chaos, uncontrolled chaos, we are used to that, and we try to put some control into this environment. Reporter the team spent a total of 10 days in texas after harvey helping those people stranded by the floodwaters. Our ktvu crew with along with them on these rescues, and that convoy including rescue boats on the road traveling back to california from texas when they received a call to respond to Hurricane Irma. They turned around to begin to drive east and meeting up with all of these team members boarding from the Oakland International airport this morning. They will be staging in georgia for the time being awaiting their orders from fema to respond to wherever they are needed most. Depending on the impact of irma, potentially the team of the California Task force 4 could remain in that region for the next three weeks. Our hats are off to the mall and we wish them a safe return from florida. The u. S. Senate passed the 15. 3 billion harvey aid package and adding another 7. 4 billion to the 7 billion initially posed. The Hurricane Harvey package is the first installment that congress is expected to provide with much more money provided in the weeks ahead. With that aid package they extended the u. S. Borrowing authority preventing the Government Shutdown next month. Developing out of the spec, the oakland Fire Department captain has been arrested for possession of child pornography, and we live from open with the details. Reporter captain richard chew works out of this fire station 15 in oakland but now one leave after the Contra Costa County prosecutors have charged him with having child porn. The 58yearold was arrested at his home in lafayette wednesday night. The Contra Costa County internet crimes against Children Task force lost an investigation into chew last month serving search warrants at his home in oakland. The Authorities Say they found child porn on his laptop and other storage devices and he is now on administrative leave. At the statement, the interim open fire chief says he is appalled by the disturbing nature of the charges. In sacramento two Police Officers have been shot and it happened around 11 am this morning in south sacramento. It is unclear what led to the shooting but both officers have been taken to the hospital with nonthreatening injuries. The suspect shot one officer in the leg and the other was shot in the chest. The officer was wearing his protective vest. The condition of the shooter is yet to be released but he was also shot.
