foot bridge. >> we ran about 9,000 man hours building this project. >> reporter: a project replacing infamous doyle drive. where cars head on through and from san francisco bridge. safer for driving and quakes. >> most people are excited i'm sure. yeah that should be a lot of fun. >> reporter: will you drive it in the morning. >> i will. i will drive it in the morning. >> reporter: what's going on here? >> going on to the golden gate. >> reporter: that remodeling shut traffic on to the precidio. snarled the marina district and turned the drive from marin into an hour long crawl. still chp expected worse. >> even though we had delays it's not nearly as bad as what we had anticipated so from our standpoint that's great. >> hopefully it's efficient as far as traffic flow. it's finally done. >> reporter: on this 72 hour effort more than 250 workers. and even after tomorrow, crews will be working until 2016. >> we'll be excavating all the asphalt and ripping that out. >> reporter: but no worries the work still left to do shouldn't cause any driving disruptions. no more closures for the vehicles that use this corridor every weekday. the million dollar parkway should be opened. update on today's early opening. you can also get traffic updates on our ktvu news app during tomorrow morning's commute. now to new developments in a stunning three alarm fire in san jose. a total of five homes were damaged. it started just after 3:00 this afternoon on snow drive just west of highway 101. fire officials say the fire burned two homes and traveled on the parkway for a quarter mile and burn more homes. christien kafton is live at the scene. firefighters say this was a tough one to fight. >> reporter: firefighters say the first call came in shortly after 3:00. smoke and flames along the fence on snow drive in san jose. rivel lived in one of those houses by the fence. she looked out of her window and knew something was wrong. >> it just kind of started. there was smoke coming out and i happened to see that but it looked almost normal to me. that's when i started watching it and that's when it caught fire. >> so smoke first then -- >> then it caught fire. that's when it started to get bigger and bigger. >> reporter: once the fire reached our house it was a matter of minutes, she grabbed what she could and escaped. >> all i grabbed was my purse and my dog. and that was it. >> reporter: firefighters arrived on the scene an started dousing down the housing. >> we had the tier fire which is a wild land fire from embers here. >> reporter: you can see the scorch mark. finally jumping back over the wall at lon hettrick's house. >> it started at the beginning of snow drive. that second street ignited within second. the fire went down the ivy on the wall and on to the home. >> reporter: the bithe time the fire was over the fire damaged two homes. >> everybody is safe. that's the important part. all the neighbors were good. they got their animals out. i wasn't even home. everybody is safe, that's all that matters. >> reporter: firefighters were on scene trying to figure the cause of the fire. at this point no official cause. >> how many people were in their homes. >> in all the three homes that were badly damaged are the ones people had to vacate. from those three homes 12 people had to find a place to live. those two other homes damaged they're still livable. but i spoke to those families and they didn't want to stay there tonight. >> christien kafton live in san jose. >> christien mentioned the conditions out there. and we're checking in with mark tamayo. >> reporter: just to give you some reference on the map. here's the san somewhere -- san jose airport and the fire on 101. we'll come in a bit closer and talk about those winds. winds of persistent wind increasing over the next 24 hours. we'll show you the wind reports. 2:00 made a wind gusts of up to 10 miles per hour. and 4:00 gusting at 23 miles per hour. so any wind over 10-miles-an- hour not good and actually complicates things for the fire crews. that was the case for today and parts of the south bay. with a bit of a breeze kicking up up to a 20 to 23 miles per hour. i'm tracking a warming trend in the five day forecast that will increase fire danger. we'll have more on that coming up in just a little bit. be sure to follow mark and our entire ktvu weather team online for the very latest on the conditions and the fire dangers where you live. searchers in walnut creek spent the day last seen at her home on friday. a silver alone is in effect for this woman. police worry she may be disoriented due to medical conditions. and she on the speaks russian. she was wearing a red jacket and her home. dogs appeared to pick up her scent. that's where searchers spent much of their effort. there's extra concern because valentina has been missing now for more than 48 hours. >> yeah it is a long time that's why we're out here today. because we have multiple search and rescue folks. >> reporter: police asked residents in the area to take a look to see if valentina is perhaps in their backyard, sheds or garages. they considered the father of a missing baby armed and dangerous. 6-month-old amber grant disappeared from her home in redding. yesterday amber's father matthew graham also disappeared. graham is being called a person of interest in this case. the legal fight over the fate of five frozen embryos will head to san francisco superior court and the outcome may set precedent. a divorcing couple is at odds over the embryos. the husband wants those embryo's destroyed. however the wife wants to keep them and her lawyers say they are her only option for having a bilogical child in the future, as cancer -- arguably the most powerful drug trafficker in the world broke out of prison saturday night. joaquin guzman better known as el chapo is worth more than a billion dollars. forbes has ranked him as their world's most popular people in the world several years in a row. he's considered one of the most brutally violent drug cartels in the world. guzman was last seen in the shower of his cell. at a maximum security prison. but when guards went to check on him. his cell was empty. >> staff at the federal jail did a search. this began with a rectangular hole in the shower area. >> reporter: that led to a fully ventilated tunnel that ran to a house under construction in a near by neighborhood. guzman and the sinaloa cartel are well known for their supertunnels. guzman has used them in recent years to evade law enforcement. many times the cartel will dig the tunnels by hand to avoid making noise. but even if it happened here, it's unlikely this tunnel couldn't have been built without detention by prison guards. this is the second time guzman has broken out of prison. back in 2001 he snuck out of another maximum security prison. in that escape he did get help from prison guards who were later prosecuted and convicted. officials in mexico vowed that he would not escape again but now authorities in mexico and the united states are once again on the hunt for el chapo. will carr, fox news. >> a redesign of their state flag which contains the emblem inside of it. >> reporter: two students are due in court stemming with a shooting of a prostitute at a hotel. the man who allegedly drove gill from the scene, sibley is also facing charges in this case. the woman remains in critical condition and is unable to talk with investigators. residents are being warmed of a problem with a local 911 system. people with a 966 phone prefix cannot reach 911 directly and must dial 707-255-0911. a high tech way to get bigger tips from customers. there's more on this digital update that is often called there in the distance. low clouds have been increasing over the last couple of hours especially in the western portions of san francisco. that trend will continue over the next few hours across the bay area. so right now on live storm tracker 2. we have lower clouds and higher clouds as you see streaming over portions of the region. approaching monterey bay. maybe a few sprinkles but most of this is falling in the upper levels. still we have partly cloudy skies. current numbers lots of 60s out there. santa rosa 63. oakland 65 degrees. actually kind of mild out there. forecast for tomorrow morning, we will have this. areas of fog and then into the afternoon hours clearing skys to near the coast. evidential temperature range 62 to 86 degrees. it's 7:00 tomorrow morning. the fog out toward san francisco, oakland, hayward, parts of the north bay for san rafael. up toward santa rosa as well. clouds clear to near the shoreline. still fog patches toward the coast. that represents 80s. so tomorrow will be a little bit warmer for some of the inland bay neighbors. the warmest locations approaching the mid-80s. i'm tracking a warming trend 90s make a big come back. and we're tracking a chance of a few showers on the long range weather maps. a ballot measure is on the works that would halt the twin tower maps. the proposition would acquire voter approval for a public works project of more than $2 billion. the tunnels are expected to cost $15 billion. it would send water to residents as far as san diego. stockton area farmer balogoski is approving the measure. the measure would go before voters in november of next year if it gets enough signatures. we have new information to tell you about on a deadly crash in the east bay highway. what we're learning about the looking now. >> reporter: it looks good. it's very smooth out here. of course this early opening is a huge relief for marin commuters can go to bed knowing that this roadway will be there for them to tkpwáet -- to get to work in the morning. the first drivers had a chp escort to get through. it features new lanes, new tunnels for all to get used to. now the precidio parkway replacing doyle drive at the cost of $1 million is finally a reality. the contractor was optimistic all day it would open early. the target time was 5:00 a.m. monday. but even this afternoon he was saying it would be closer to midnight. then before 10:00 and in fact, it was 9:00. a full eight hours early that we saw the first vehicles come through. 100,000 cars use this connector every weekday. and one of the biggest changes drivers will see no more movable median barrier. each direction has its own dedicated lane. traffic in and out of the waterfront and over the golden gate bridge was backed up all news app for live updates. the highway patrol is looking into whether alcohol played a role into a deadly crash in orinda. that solo vehicle crash happened just before 3:00 near the saint steven's. the driver was the only person in the car and was ejected. they've been identified as andrew tanner of san francisco. chp investigators did not elaborate on why they believe alcohol may have been factor on the crash. there's word that federal agents are looking into the theft of personal information from a quarter million wine country visitors. the thieves targeted data from a business called e cellar systemless. about 70 wineries are thought to be affected. they call themselves the 39ers. thousands walked 39 miles over two days to end breast cancer. allie rasmus shared some of the emotions. >> san franciscos so we're the the 39ers. >> reporter: walking 39 miles over a two day period. susan is half way through the trek. >> i'm mentally and physically exhausted. >> reporter: but how you play beyond your limitations and fremont school for the deaf is just an example of what you can do when your heart is in the right place. >> they don't think we can communicate well but we actually can so we actually prove them wrong. >> reporter: this is the seventh year the football team has taken place in a camp. the school for the deaf has a wide range of other sports teams including basketball, baseball, track and field. i didn't tell you this. i was in the ninth grade at berkeley played a football game against these kids and we notice had the instead of having a snap count, they used a drum. >> so they could feel. >> yeah. >> even after all those years you still remember that. >> not that long. 15 years ago. >> i didn't mean that. just something you remember. >> this man anderson, do not approach him instead call police with the information. king suicide has long been a troubling issue. a benicia family is trying to help others after their tragedy. >> reporter: 16-year-old kyle highland had talent. >> my kyle was a musician, keyboardist and guitarist. >> reporter: this was the benetia junior playing at the classic. >> ♪ ♪ >> this is hard for our family, for all of us. not just our immediate family, but his uncles and ants and cousins. >> reporter: he had a wide net of friends but that didn't keep him from committing suicide. >> it's hard every day. >> reporter: he left no note, no goodbye. no explanation. >> you ask yourself the same question every day. why? why did it happen. we'll never know. and eventually we're just going to have to accept that we're never going to know. >> reporter: now kyle's mother barbara is leading the charge to save other family's in benetia from the same dark fate. >> there's a lot of kids in this town that have approached me since kyle took his life. that have said that they're struggling. and that they're very sad and they don't feel that there's really anyone they can talk to. >> reporter: she and kyle's father created the kyle highland foundation for teen support. they've also started an online campaign to raise enough money to build a teen center where at risk teens can get the help they need. >> they need the support, they need the education. they need to be trained how to cope. and we really don't have that at the school. >> reporter: kyle's parents tell me they will take any viable option to be the home of the teen group, but this location with the close vicinity to the city pool makes it perfect. and would like to get the property back. >> we would like to get the area back. because it's close to the school and swimming pool. >> reporter: they're hoping to turn this project into a reality. >> i think that he would be real happy. he would be happy about the teen center for his friends, for the kids that are left. >> reporter: she just wants to help other young people avoid the same tragedy that will haunt kyle's family forever. >> for more information about the effort services unit voted yesterday against ratifying its agreement. that solves the union's over all agreement. the union says it appears there was evidence of misrepresentation to the unit's members about the contract and that revote will take place on july 22nd. negotiations still on the table after an all night negotiation. the leaders are looking at a greek proposal to impose another $12 billion in new taxes and spending cuts in exchange for approving a three year $60 billion loan to the near bankrupt country. the bail out would be the third for greece in five years. >> it's come along with 3:00 and 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. so tomorrow will be warmer in san jose compared to today. over the past few days it's cool to mild weather pattern has been in place and it's not changing too much. over the next few days it's going to gradually lift off to the north. 50s to the 80s. clearing skies near the shoreline. then as the high rebuilds by wednesday. warmest locations inland back up into the low to mid-90s. an update on tropical storm dolores. here's the storm track by friday and into the weekend weakening into a category one hurricane. there's a chance some of this moisture could be swirled up toward california and approaching the bay areas so that will be next weekend at least a chance. there'll be high clouds by saturday and then into sunday. so we will be tracking the possibility of a few showers even an isolated thunderstorms. possibly here in the bay area so we'll keep an eye on that. lots of 80s in downtown antioch. san jose 82 degrees. sunny vale 80 and san francisco with 70, clouds in the morning and a few left over patches for the afternoon hours. look ahead to your forecast. looks like wednesday, thursday, the warmer the hottest days of the week. by the weekend, saturday and sunday the high clouds. those weakening systems that could be approaching california. those are typically the hardest to attract. we'll keep that on the pattern for saturday and sunday to possibly add a shower chance to our weekend. and a volcano eruption has closed the colima airport. this level of active activity has not been seen since 2013. >> teaching you how to be killings, shootings, drugs. and a lot of that stuff. but i don't buy into that. >> reporter: not buying into the street culture is what gym owner chris lopez teaches his young boxers. >> i was on the street selling drugs. being a criminal. and then i learned, i learned that you know that's not the right thing to do. >> reporter: lopez says he found boxing and learned discipline. he developed a motto he's passing on to these children, tenacity, and class. this boxing clean -- boxing club is open to children six to 18 years old. >> they're doing something productive with their time, they're respecting their body, they're becoming productive members of society. >> reporter: one mother says her daughter was bullied at school. she signed her up for boxing. not to learn how to fight, but to stand up for herself. >> she doesn't have the self- confidence to speak up. so you know as we brought her here it's changed it. she feels more comfortable to say don't do that. >> reporter: lopez coaches his own son. 11-year-old david is nicknamed dynamite and recently won bronze in the junior olympics. >> it disciplines me to eat the right food and it teaches me how to be nice, stay calm. >> reporter: dynamite and six other students from this gym will be traveling to indio next week for a tournament. >> win, lose or draw, as long as you do your best you win every time. >> way to go dynamite and all of the other kids there. lopez by the way is starting a nonprofit to help young athletes after the age of 25 for equipment, training and traveling equipment to tournaments. grandmothers are known for bragging about their grandchildren. and some grandmothers have plenty to brag about after their grandmother took three gold medals at the senior's olympics. at the senior
