Yeah, it is a lot variety yet again for the new biden for the april brought a showers brought us nice and sunny days today is going to be one of those sunny days. But by saturday, were back to the showers looking outside at the golden gate bridge. Skies are beautiful and Crystal Clear up above. We dont have any fog at the coastline. We still do have some breezy conditions in a few spots, especially for Solano County. Still do have a wind advisory up there and into the central valley. Temps are warming pretty quickly, brett, what youre getting close to 70 degrees. Same up in vacaville. Most of the rest of us still hanging out in the 60s later on today. Looking forward to that. John, thank you. Made while the big story this morning for north bay commuters, especially but for tourists in general, the fact that that Golden Gate Ferry Service between San Francisco and sausalito, hes back up and running. It had been not running for a couple weeks now to fix some damage to the pier. But crawfords Michael Thomas is there live in sausalito with the good news for all those folks who want to take the ferry. Michael. Hey, good morning, everyone. Thats right. Its not only been causing really havoc for those commuters, but also even Business Owners. Tell me that theyve seen a decline partially over the last 2 weeks. So they were excited about it. But take a look. Weve got video from this morning. You can see that pier back on the 19th of april. Essentially the Golden Gate Ferry Service closed between San Francisco and sausalito was suspended because there was damage that was found during a routine checkup on the piers pylons. Now, officials close it out of an abundance of caution. But since then, contractors have fixed. The issue of the pier is ready for business. The ferry got here this morning at 705. And you can see in that video, people were already lined up and lots of commuters say its cheaper instead of driving with the tolls and gas. But also to they say its a community. Take a listen. What they had to say. Its really peaceful, really clean. And its just a great group of people on i just drove but its not as nice a very. And you look at cost more to drive in. Cash. Probably does cost a little bit more. Yeah. Now we should be back out here live. You can see this is the view that theyre talking about. They get to right on that water. Every single morning. So all is well here in south toledo and that service of the ferry is back up and running as normal. The next ferry leaves here at 10. 55 arriving in San Francisco at 11. 25 james, i will send it back to you live in the studio. I think what court for entire this encampment and other cameras around the country across the world, that not about the university not about it is going get with the law. And so this is the other big story were following this morning. Propalestine demonstrations continuing at several colleges around the country, including here in the bay area. In fact, these are the tents that are now on the quad at San Francisco State University the protesters say theyre pushing the university and u. S. Officials to disclose any expenditures the college may have with foreign investors. Meanwhile, uc berkeley, more and more tents are being set up there as well as the encampment there. Sproul plaza grows. Now they are in their second week of this demonstration today. In fact, faculty and staff say theyre planning to join the protest. That will be at noon. The protesters say theyre calling on the university to stop investing in companies that work with israel, especially if theyre involved in making weapons of war. On the peninsula. At Stanford University students there say they are concerned about disciplinary action coming from the school. Students told us the school has sent them disciplinary letters for participating in these protests. It start off with 19 for out at like 2 or 3 more. Cant exactly. Remember who have letters from the office of Community Standards and are basically being put through their internal disciplinary process. The language is very lpvague. Well, the protesters say they want a better understanding of exactly how they might be punished. We did reach out to stanford about what the ramifications might be. But so far havent heard back. Meanwhile, in the south bay today, students at Santa Clara University will be joining in on these protests as well. And they want to administrator ys to pressure the government to end military funding in israel. Organizers of todays solitary demonstration. All are going to be meeting on campus at the alameda lawn from 12 until 08 00pm. Well, as campus protests escalate in other parts of the country, congress is threatening consequences. House republicans now, fact, are launching an investigation into federal funding for these universities. And theyre pushing to pass new antisemitism laws. Washington correspondent Hannah Brandt has more on that part of the story. House leaders accuse University Officials of failing to keep these protests under control. Also saying theyre not doing enough to protect jewish students. Fireworks erupted at ucla and protesters clashed on campus across the country of colombia. New york police stormed University Building to arrest dozens of protesters who have been occupying it. This thing is out of control from capitol hill. Lawmakers are watching with concern and House Speaker mike johnson warns of universities dont get the chaos under control. You will see Congress Respond unkind. Youre going to see funding begin to dry up. Youre going to every level of accountability that we can muster. He says several house committees will investigate the protest and may decide to take away federal funding. And this week, congress is gearing up to vote on a bill to change the federal definition of antisemitism under antidiscrimination law. The rampant antisemitism. Requires action by the federal government. Congressman mike lawlor introduced the legislation and supporters say it would allow universities to crack down on harmful speech. This is not the free marketplace of ideas. This is open threats to jewish students because of their faith and who they are. But some worry it goes too far like congresswoman teresa ledger, fernandez, were constitutionally bound to protect free speech. Even more importantly, when it is speech with rich. We do not agree. And congressman pete aguilar prefers letting universities respond. They have guidance. They have they need to enforce those before congress. Kate snow once. The white house as well. President biden does support peaceful protests. He is concerned about antisemitism on campuses and he doesnt agree with protesters barricading themselves inside University Buildings in washington. Im Hannah Brandt. Thank you, also in the news today, 450 homeless families in San Francisco will soon receive financial help.
