From the local news station. Youre watching you. Morning team. And thanks for joining us on a tuesday. Im darya and im james john and here at to start the 10 oclock hour. Lots of talk about what do you know what were talking about . The tropicana closing for good with it. You know theyre orbit estate. The are, you know, years ago and i can the closing and where the as are going to go from here. Thats another big story that we have on tap. And then also the weather and were from here is a warm weekend, tropicana, her own nice for it. Low 70s to even the couple 70s are they getting that sunshine, too . As you can see above San Francisco right now, we saw a little bit of fog earlier on this morning. Were still seeing some stubborn fog up in Sonoma County. As well as a couple of patches out towards the car, tinas mostly thats burnt off, though. And any remaining staff is going to be out of here. Real quick where were sitting on the radar, nice, dry skies. And today is definitely among our warmer days. San jose and san mateo rd up to 63 degrees. Concord fairfield, vacaville pittsburgh, among our other spots in the 60s later on today, were going to get into those 70s easily. So but only for one more day cooling down after this one. Ill get to that in your forecast. Back to you. All right. Thanks, john. Well check in with you a little later right now at 10 0, 1, we want to thats the picket lines. Again. Santa clara county nurses are on strike for 3 days and will tran has been following the movements this morning in san jose. Will. Well, you can clearly see them right behind me. Theyre so full people protesting that they cant even stay on one side of the street. Look at this, james there on both sides. And this stretches right down the street here. So there are thousands and you know what, if you are the county, youre not happy to see this because you would rather see them inside than outside. But here we are because the nurses, they are not happy with whats going on in terms of offer for their pay as well as they claim safety for themselves as well as the patients. Its a threeday strike. Heres what you need to know. Emergency Services Still available to you wont have a problem with that. If theres something dire that you need to be treated. But non emergency services, theres good chance that your appointment could be revoked. At a later time, despite having replacement nurses inside reason being they only have 1000 nurses talking 4,000 nurses not at work at Valley Medical Center o connor in san jose as well as saint louise regional in gilroy. Not to mention they getting support from 13 clinics. They are here saying yes, absolutely. They want to pay raise, but they also want to work at one place and not be rotated because of short staffing. The last mediators proposal wasnt voted down by the membership because of the money. It was voted down because the county wants to be able to send us to different hospitals. And we believe thats unsafe for nurses and unsafe for our patients. Its all because the county failed to integrate the 3 hospitals together. And because of this failure to integrate, each of those hospitals have different policies and procedures. So its the same thing is if youre a firefighter in san jose and the next day you work in a different city in the next day. You work in a different city. And they claim thats fine. But you know what . They have different policies and procedures from city to city and youre not at your best when youre not at your best. Well, you can help the patients and they say they want to stay at one location. Sure. There are nurses that rotate, but they say they didnt sign up for that and they would like to stay at one location. The county is offering a 10. 5 pay raise over the next 3 years. The looking for approximately 15 . No word yet on when the 2 sides will get back to the bargaining table. But if youre a patient, all you care about is when will i get to seen by my doctor . And the good news is this is only 3 days. They should be back to work early friday morning. Back to you. Thanks a lot. Well. Well, 10, 0, 4, is the time. The other big story that folks are talking about today is the fact that Oakland International airport is thinking about changing and adding the words San Francisco into it, which has San Francisco officials. All in a tizzy. Well, it could be confusing for one. And then there are other objections. Lets go to crawford is Michael Thomas whos been talking to travelers at the Oakland Airport this morning. Im michael. Yeah, good morning, everyone. Will the Oakland Airport for now, but the would be San Francisco bay Oakland International airport. People in San Francisco are not taking too kind to it. And i will say people here in oakland also not taking time to take a listen the possible name. Change was announced last week by the port of oakland, which believes the name change could bring more travelers to open airport. Adding that right now, most travelers dont realize how close open is to San Francisco or that its even in the bay area. So we asked east bay residents at Oakland Airport they thought it would bring more travelers and what their thoughts work. I think they should keep it yeah, its located oakland point. I think i think it is incomplete because people outside of open dont know the various times also the period dont know. Simmons was keeping right after the announcement, San Francisco supervisor aaron peskin posted to x, formerly known as twitter saying imitation is the highest form of flattery. And the idea really is a neighborly sfo. Officials also commented saying they didnt like the idea. The name change adding theyve been using the name San Francisco since the late 20s making it recognizable to travelers and adding the city named to Oakland Airport would just confuse travelers and people this morning say they agree stale one. And why do you think that . Simpler people are going to get confused. And my going to francisco, michael copeland, sure. The name change has not been made official. But oakland commissioners are set to consider it later this month at a Board Meeting has San Francisco city officials will officially ban together and oppose it. Well, time will tell. So as we get more word from either side of the bay, whether the oakland or San Francisco on their thoughts and its name change will keep you updated. Live this morning in oakland, Michael Thomas. Back to live in the studio. Call it what you want do like Oakland Airport, whatever its called. Thank you. Rarely late. All right, 10, 0, 6, is the time. Happening today, weve got the tropicana. The now, the 3rd oldest hotel on the strip. Now. Shutting down for good. Yeah, its for the as. This was to be right near a complex. Lets check in with reyna harvey and see whats going on there in vegas and james. So it is the end of an error. After nearly 7 decades of operation, one of las vegas resorts shutting down at one this afternoon in just a few hours game before officially closed at 3 this morning. The resort shutting down to make way for new pro baseball stadium, which will be the new home of the as come 2028. Tropicana first opened its doors in 1957. Secretly under the control of the mom, despite its ties organized crime hotels, the citys most luxurious establishment earning the nickname the prime jewel district. It went through multiple changes, ups and downs during the 7 decades early this morning tours locals tried their luck in the casino to the door. Shut for good. I was the last i happened to the last person before they shut down all the gaming. Im taking home. Got to say that i was going to put it in my like memories booklet. But i like i think i might actually fraae it and hang up on the wall. Tonight, i actually left a winner. I want 75. All right. Big until the very last. Now the tropicana is set to become be completely demolished in october. Send it back to both of the deaths a year. And then the question is, where are the as going to go . Because their lease at the coliseum is up right after this season. And those digs in vegas are going to take a couple years. Yeah, well, theyre in talks right now for an extension deal out of the coliseum. Well have to wait and see what happens. But Dennis Shanahan takes a closer look at the process so far. In general, i can safely say that aaa requirements are different than major league requirements. We spoke with former Miami Marlins president David P Sampson now host of the daily podcast. Nothing personal. As someone who knows what its like to run a big league team. He says Sutter Health park will need major upgrades if its going to be acceptable to major league ballplayers. Still, hes see sacramento as a frontrunner for landing the as until they move to las vegas because the team plans to leave open anyway and he says open is asking too much for a lease extension. I would say fire the president of the as. There is not one scenario. Under which i would be pay 97 Million Dollars in rent. The Biggest Issue that i see pace in sacramento is that where ever oakland plays there has to be union approval. If its outside of oakland and there has to be a an agreement for some sort of tv revenue that Major League Baseball would have to approve because theres a calculation done for revenue sharing purposes. And the question owners will ask is how much money are we going to be giving to the as during this quote, unquote, interim period, of course, Center Health park is technically in west sacramento. That citys mayor Martha Guerrero told fox 40 by telephone monday. Shes not ready to comment until she has more information. Sacramento mayor Darrell Steinberg sent us this statement. Its important for me to express my sincere hope that the as remain in oakland. Ive been consistent in my support for this from the very beginning. However, i believe that sacramento has so much to offer and would be a fantastic temporary landing spot for the as. Some sports fans we met in sacramento seem to agree. I would like myself personally at a Major League Baseball team here. Sounds fun, even temporarily even really bring him out. I grew up here and i live in the bay area. And i mean, could be the next step for them. Others have mixed feelings. Its just a stopgap to stop gap for the as. Doesnt really help the as fans. You know, theres a lot of as fans here. You know, theres a lot of these fans in the bay, but its not stopping the inevitable, which is the as leaving this man was with his nephew who told us hes visiting from las vegas. He doesnt think the proposed site is a good place for in a stadium. Know, many people who are excited about them coming to vegas. Honestly. Back to sampson. He still has doubts. The as are moving to vegas at all, which ive said over and over again. And im alone on an island. On my show, nothing personal that until i see the moving trucks pull up to the strip, i just wont believe it. I see it. Time now is 10 11. And still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, we saw a lot of side shows over the weekend in the bay area. So what are the city leaders have to say about it . And youve got to see this dramatic cliffside rescue as a dramatic cliffside rescue as a man is clinging to a rockford, we know you care. [music plays] but if this is all too real for you and your loved ones. Make the call. Because we care too. Home instead. To us, its personal. Dont like oh, rescuers are amazing and i cant believe this young man was able to cling to that rock and wait for deputies from the Sonoma County sheriffs office. They made it and we dont know how long he was out there, but he was clinging to a cliff side to a rock sunday night when they were able to rescue him from the golden gate, National Recreation area near battery alexander. Look at this. Can you see him just wedged in there holding on for dear life . He fell down 50 to 60 feet from a cliff and then was wedged. There was told their feet. Theres a little ding on and they were able to like. Just release. I would have dribbled letting that left hand up like he did and then see just put up the left hand. Grabs the rope and they hoist to safety. My gosh. Amazing. And then when i got home and thats my kid on the ice almost 10, 15 now. So lets check in with john. Find out about the weather for todays. Were taking a look here and up in this year. Theyre doing the snow survey today, john. In the spirit of still ahead of us, even though it has been so nice yesterday and today, this is a look at half dome right here up in yosemite. And you can see just how high that snow is piled. Were about to get some more snow. But take a look at the latest measurements. Northern part of the sierra, 118 of average snowpack. Love to see that, especially after the slower start to the season that we had seen central sierra right around yosemite also doing really good as well. And weve still got more on the way, even though it wont be today. Today is Crystal Clear from start to finish all across the bay area that low to our north is soon to displace the High Pressure ridge thats in place for now. That means after such a dry, warm start to the week, some cooler wetter weather is just around the corner. Timing it out tomorrow. We cool down as much as 10 degrees compared to today. See a lot of cloud cover for your wednesday by thursday. Even cooler yet. And even though we have a dry morning commute on thursday, middle of the day, well start to see showers pushing in snowfall kicks off in the sierra starting thursday, lingering into friday making for slick roadways into the start of this upcoming weekend. Well get a breather on saturday before sunday night. Another opportunity of some brief showers before we dry out into next week. As for today, staying dry and staying warm for yet another day. We are going to be a bit cooler at the coastline today. You have an increased cool ocean breeze, which does keep temperatures at the coast just a little cooler than yesterday. Elsewhere in the bay area, though were talking a lot of 70s campbell and san jose each getting up to 77 degrees. Some of your warmer spots. Fremont at 74 today, oakland up to richmond in the upper 60s while conquered pittsburgh in antioch, each right at 76 degrees today. Looking ahead, temperatures tomorrow will like i said around 10 degrees cooler in some spots only in the upper 50s that are very warmest by those cold showers back to you. Thank you, john. 10 16 right now in east bay city leaders are talking about a large crowds. Theyve been gathering for sideshows. We just showed you what happened over the weekend. Yeah, absolutely. Jamming some intersections for those who live in the area. They say its been wreaking havoc. City leaders issuing a warning out of people who are breaking the law. Kron fours terisa stasio has more. And as ive said before and ill say it again and dont come to with these types of activities. That is and mayor lamar thorpe speaking bluntly about this recent sideshow taking over a city street, hundreds gathered blocking the intersection of lone tree way and golf course road at one point. Spectators shot off rounds of fireworks. Guess what . If you come here with this nonsense, youre going to be held accountable and youre going to regret coming here because we do have the technology. Its not just foot soldiers on the ground that we can send out. We have Technology Like drones. We captured a your license plate. Were going to show up at your house one day and were going to tell your car and then were going to find you. In most cases, its going to be very upset. Parents werent happy with the with police chief. The side show in antioch, just one of many this past weekend. This was the scene at 51st street and telegraph in the temescal neighborhood in oakland. Also in oakland, on burma, road opd responded to a hit and run following the sideshow and near hercules just off of Franklin Canyon road near the golf course. Driver spun donuts and set off fireworks over some for most of those are having the its really disappointing that a lot of these lot of these actions of what into communities that are putting communities in a position where theyre in harms way. Alex Walker Griffin is a hercules city councilmember. He says that the city has taken proactive steps. The blunt sideshows, cause is making sure that we can maintain our same city as we have really is the program flock cameras. Its a series of cameras that are placing entrance and exit of intersections that we have here in town. And really what they do is they read license plates were not going after the average person. We have these cameras. Were going after those who have maybe storm a car or somebody with an outstanding warrant that needs to be held accountable. Thats one way that were doing to the flock. Cameras have been outstanding for. So if get recovery in the city. Oakland recently passed a new ordinance that toughens illegal steps that they can take against those involved in sideshows. We reached out to the Oakland Police department about the sideshows this past weekend. They said that they made 2 arrests. In the newsroom. Theresa kron, 4 news. To 19 is the time. And it looks like road improvements in San Franciscos presidio have made things much safer for a bicyclist. And some of those changes include the installation of speed cushions and rumble strips. They also narrowed the car lanes to provide more space for
