Have a live report. From the bay station. Youre watching kron. And news. Thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon. Im justine waldman. Were going follow some breaking news now and begin with that here. First at noon, the fbi raiding the womens correctional facility dublin this morning. Federal investigators have seized computers and documents from that prison. The prison has recently been at the center of a yearslong abuse investigation. The lead to previous charges against a former warden and other employees. An associate warden at a captain removed from the facility this morning. While that raid was underway, Ap Investigation in 2021. Found a culture of abuse and coverups that had persisted for years at the prison and that report led to increased scrutiny from congress and pledges from the federal bureau of prisons to fix the problems. At least 8 employees, including a former warden ray garcia, have been charged with sexually abusing inmates. Garcia was convicted in 2022 of molesting inmates and forcing them to pose naked in their cells. Kron 4 has a reporter at the prison now. Well continue our coverage throughout the day here on kron. 4 and on our website. Kron 4 dot com. Happening right now. Jewish students at the university of california berkeley are going to be marching and protesting in response to what they say is a failure from the university to respond to antisemitic violence on campus. Well go there now live work forced to be justice has details on whats happening there today. Thanks for joining us. Students here at uc berkeley have gathered and you can see them right behind us. We have gathered to start marching in the are joined by alumni. Faculty and our allies. So we want to talk more about this. This protest is being called liberate the gate. Students deserve safe access protest what they say is the universitys failure to respond to antisemitic violence on campus. Organizers say propalestinian and antiisrael protesters blocks either gate 4 weeks in campus policy cited by protest. Organizers indicate sather gate should not be blocked. They will be marching from a seller book called the california hall. Organizers claim that the universitys administration is selectively enforcing campus policies to the expense of jewish students. Many students we spoke with today say that they or have had her full message is directed to them and feel less safe here on campus. 2 weeks ago, a pro palestine demonstration took place here on campus. It was against event organized by jewish students at bellefonte play out forcing policies or Police Evacuate students in israeli speakers. Hundreds of demonstrators broke through the doors of the venue of the Uc Berkeley Police department announced last week that it was investigating those incidents as hate picture. We want the University Administration to enforce their policy part of this means calling out hate against jews, whether its related to jewish. And special identity, whether its related to jewish, religious or ethnic identity to call out heat against but more than that when theres a student or Student Organization that is violating policies such as protesting and blocking, say their gate to enforce the policy when the University Administration doesnt enforce policy. That results in a hostile unsafe island campus in a statement from the uc berkeleys vice chancellor. They say in part, quote, while we support the exercise of free speech rights, the campus also seeks to enforce its time place and manner restrictions for that reason. We have been making efforts to end those aspects of the nonviolent protests inside their gate that violates those restrictions. Were doing so following established protocols that seek to avoid the involvement of Law Enforcement to address nonviolent protest except as a last resort. So this group of protesters are going to start marching actually are marching right now. They just started. They plan on marching for a few miles and will try to gather that information as well and follow them back to you in studio. Tiffany, thank you so much. Well check back later. And now to the east bay as well. Were taco bell has closed its Indoor Dining rooms at multiple locations in oakland. But other fast food chains have taken similar measures because of crime taco bell employees tell us it might be because trouble has been caused inside in the window of taco bell on 35th avenue in oakland. Large signs telling customers that the dining room is now closed. The same could be seen at this location on heggen berger. Road customers are being forced to order food through the drivethru. Even this person who didnt have a car tried to order from the window because they werent allowed inside people who go to talk about all the time say theyre frustrated by this change people who are on the bus. Instead they came. They do allow walkups. Yes, not cool for people to not be able to go through. The drivethru going to the dining room. Only have to go to the jack to a taco bell employee telling kron 4 the restaurant has had to do this because people have been causing trouble inside. Taco bell is not the first oakland restaurant to close off Indoor Dining, raising canes on Edgewater Drive also shut down its dining room last year, Fried Chicken chain said it was because of crime and in and out announced its closing its oakland location after 18 years of business citing issues of ongoing and weve got a whole bunch of this is just just 1000 just because theyre not safe. Know what it is. But he got to change but not all taco bell customers understand this change. One customer telling us theyve always felt safe going to the restaurant that added around places, though, you know, the wrong time day. But other than that was sara stinson reporting. Kron 4 did reach out to a statemtnt and talk about has responded with this quote here providing a safe environment for team members and customers is the priority of taco bell restaurants. Asian groups in San Francisco are demanding that the Police Department reopen a case involving the death of a senior. The person involved in the attack was also allegedly involved in the attack of another elderly asian woman last week. Kron fours will tran is in San Francisco with the latest. Asian american activists. They point to the recent attack by this alleged suspect because we dont know if theyre connected yet, but the Asian American activists, they believe so. So they believe what happened on march 4th should reopen that case. That happened back on july 3rd of last year. So take a look at your screen. There are many moving parts. We want to give you a timeline and they want to talk to the San Francisco Police Department once again, this all started back on july 3rd of last year when yang fan 63 years old was pushed to the ground in San Francisco. She hit her head 2 days later. She would die from her injuries. Then on 7. 17, of last year, the Asian American justice movement, they were asking the San Francisco Police Department to release the video so they could see as well as the public can see the attack that happened to will then on the 21st, according to the asian just this moment, they say their sources told them that the San Francisco Police Department was investigating this not as a homicide, but it turns out it was an accident. This is important to keep in mind because on march 4th of this year, more than a week ago. Well, they say there was another Asian American woman who was attacked. 71 years old by the same woman. Why is this so important . Because they want to reopen the case and also point partial blame to the San Francisco Police Department saying had that woman been arrested and possibly prosecuted, she would not have been out on march 4th, the possibly and its all alleged at this point to attack this. 71 yearold woman and thats why they want the San Francisco Police Department to once again talk to the Asian Justice Movement as well as Asian American activist in San Francisco. If they reopen the case, well see what happens. They also want the San Francisco Police Department to possibly look at both incidents as possible hate crimes. Back to you. Were taking a live look outside now across San Francisco. Little cloud there, providing some shade there, but you can see the sun is out there today for sure. Kyla grogan. Our meteorologist is in the Weather Center with details on this sunny monday. So far, yes, so far. So good, right . We have a nice start to the delta. A little cool out there, but you can certainly see some clouds up in the north bay as we take a live look here at the golden gate bridge. Want to talk a little bit about the raid. Speaking of looking to the north north bay, got some of these pretty impressive rain totals. But having said that, richmond got a half an inch in the east bay nevado just under that little over a quarter in santa rosa and napa right at a quarter just under 8 in San Francisco and many other spots like san jose were counting the rain and 100th of an inch. So not everybody got in on that. But yeah, weve got one more shot at a little rain as we get into tonight before things changed pretty drastically. But were running cool right now. You can see it in the north bay particular santa rosa, 7 degrees cooler than it was this time yesterday. They just hit the 50 degree mark just a few moments ago. They were literally in the upper 40 still. Were certainly a little bit warmer than that spots like mountain view. Hayward, san jose getting up there into the upper 50s wind is nice and calm. Thats going to be something were going to watch this week. The wind is going to set up to kind of pick up as we get into the midweek timeframe. But today looking pretty good at looking pretty calm. Highs today will be nice. Nice day out there. It will be a little cool in spots and as you can see up in the north bay, expecting where some of those clouds will kind of role in first as we get into the evening down in san jose, the looking at for high about 64 degrees and inner east bay looking out for some low 60s. So this is the picture. We do have a front thats tracking our way as we get later into the evening and the overnight hours got little rain on the way. Well talk more about that and some serious snow coming with this one, too. Ill have all those details coming up. Thank you. Coming up here, a warning for National Park lovers. How pollution is created. Tough breathing conditions. For parks here in the states. Plus, a nurse recounts what happened when she saw her car being stolen right in front of her as she was leaving work in oakland. A San Francisco supervisor wants to revive a program that helped unhoused people return to their home towns. And this is coming as the city is seeing more People Living on the streets. Kron 4 S Michael Thomas is in San Francisco with the details. These proposals are being brought forward by San Francisco supervisor. Ahsha stop by who says the program used to assist around 800 people. But currently under mayor london breeds administration. Its only been helping around 200. Its called the homeward bound program. It was initiated back in 2005 by governor gavin newsom when he served as San Francisco mayor. The Program Provides people with both travel and Relocation Assistance with an end goal of cleaning the streets of San Francisco and allowing up to 1000 unhoused people to get the chance to go back to their hometowns and reunite with family supervisor. Somebody says in recent years the program is only assisted a few 100 people, which is why hes proposing changes today to make sure it gets used. Were now putting him back in the municipal code ensuring that the Human Services agency hes overseeing the program between itself and the department homeless port of housing. And they will be in your reporting. And o we feel like this way, theres no way it can be sidelined again, very in the bureaucracy or an afterthought. The past critics have said that this program is simply a wave sweeping the issue under the rug and pushing people out of the city. But the supervisor says thats not the case. I think the way to look at it is there are people and on the streets of San Francisco before it was a program that was pushed, it was highlighted. It was part of the tool its been sidelined for the last 4, 5 years under this administration. We did reach out to mayor london breeds office regarding the program itself and also the statements made by the supervisor but have not heard back as of yet. Thats the very latest reporting in San Francisco. And michael thomas. I will send it back to you to live in the studio. Want to talk more in depth about our forecast now with this live look outside here looking at the east whats going on in walnut creek . Lot of some going on there. Kuz going to start off, though. Thats going on in tahoe and sunny there right now to nice day out there right now. But theyre expecting a little more snow. Were taking a live look from diamond peak here. You can see some nice visibility of the lake and certainly you can see some of that snow that is hanging out right there along the shoreline. So weve got a front thats going to come through. It will be a few showers to us as we get into our later evening and overnight hours and it will also bring some snow to the sierra. So thats about 09 30pm, tonight you can see kind of rolls through tomorrow. But i want to show you a minute. Let this kind of play out. Theres tuesday night and they show you what happens as we get to wednesday. And then thursday, were going to clear out and have a really nice run of some really nice weather leading right up to that Saint Patricks day weekend. Having said that today, we do have these Winter Weather advisories that are up, as you can see for the sierra were looking for about 4 to 10 inches of snow. It looks like the snow levels will be about 5,000 feet. That could make travel a little tough. Obviously, gusty wind is going to part of the equation to this does go through 05 00pm on tuesday. So tonight through tuesday afternoon is when its going to be kind of know, go time in the sierra. And you can see again, its not extreme totals. This is nothing like the huge storms that weve gotten recently. But it is going add to that snowpack. Its a good thing as we go through the month of march to see this happening. So we kind of hang on to some of that snow pack by adding to it. Having said that, were in a really good place. I was talking to some of the other day and i was like, you know, this isnt the colossal snow that we had last year, but its really quite perfect the way weve gotten it in here. Its all about this month and now getting to the end of this month, the kind of hanging on to it. You can see a few snowflakes there that are flying. You can also going to see some of the moisture that starting to make its way to the north of us. So i mentioned this is going bring us some rain showers as well. And that is going to happen as we get later into this evening. All courtesy of this low pressure system. Now, later this week, part of this is going to change a little bit. Were going to see High Pressure moved in to clear us out. But were also going to see this gradient happened between low and High Pressure. That means were going wind happening as we get into wednesday and thursday in particular. So tonight were going to see a few showers roll through tomorrow. Well star
