You can see as we have the scattered showers rolling on through a part of that system headed to Southern California and then the afternoon came weve got the sunshine that gave the atmosphere just enough energy to pop up some of those thunderstorms. So some of the rain rates beneath that re saw the issues with flooding about an inch and a half of rain per hour. And ernie, some of those thunderstorms. So tonight things are quieting down now, of course, the sun has set. Weve lost a lot energy in the atmosphere. Now were starting to see things breakup. Were not done with the rain across the state. Senate seat after last nights results were in. Are we are now set up for a matchup. Between democrat adam schiff and republican steve garvey. Grant lotus joins us here in the studio with analysis. All right. The projected top 2 vote getters can shift and garvey now advance to the november runoff after beating out more than 2 dozen other candidates, including democratic Congressmembers Katie Porter in oaklands barber lee over the last few months shift spent tens of millions of dollars on advertising targeting garvey. All part of what pundits have described as an effort to propel garvey, the republican and former la dodger into the top 2 in turn guaranteeing a garvey shift matchup in the general election and avoiding importantly, a battle with progressive. Democrats like quarterly. Some analysts say the strategy is likely to work in the long run, noting the democrat schiff has a huge advantage facing off against the republican garvey in a state here where registered democrats outnumber registered republicans about 2 to one. Republican voters only represent about 24 of the electorate. So when you have 2 to one advantage from voter standpoint, its very difficult for garvey to kind of overcome that. That bridge steve garvey really needs to do is one needs to raise some money. Which he didnt do in the primary to he needs to take some positions on some it its no longer going to be good enough for steve garvey to say that the status quo has messed up washington, d. C. , and its and the government is not working well for the people. Hes going to need to get more specific. So going into the november election, experts say schiff is likely to raise the topic of donald trump more than once and will continue. To ask rv whether he plans to vote for trump win the 2 face off on the debate stage and you can also bet plenty of baseball analogies from garvey. Noel cant back to you without a doubt. Grant. While Many Democrats thought trumps legal problems would have been his undoing by now, he has managed to make his Court Appearances work as Campaign Appearances and now the biden trump rematch coming into sharper focus because of nikki haleys decision to suspend her campaign. She did not immediately endorse trump and there are a lot of questions about where her republican supporters will land. So theres a contingent of republicans that are out there. And you see this expressed in polls. These are voters who are like an enthusiastic about joe biden but will not vote for for donald trump. That Group Overall is about 30 . And so how that group slice and dice is itself how it votes since a georgia, pennsylvania, arizona, wisconsin. That will be critical in terms of determining the outcome if they vote 3rd Party Candidate that hurts democrats at a slightly higher rate than it hurts. Republicans. Both President Biden and donald trump, of course, are inviting haleys supporters to back their campaigns. Meantime, donald trump says today he wants to debate joe biden. The mayor also explained the importance of this years theme for the Saint Patricks day parade. Unite as seth is a part of the theme this year. So as we celebrate, its about bringing communities together. Its about remembering are challenging times, but also recognizing that San Francisco and our iris community represents resilience. Saint patricks day parade in San Francisco is one of the largest in the country. It is scheduled for saturday march 16th. Now at 4 zone forecast as we try to peer through, ok, i think there should be more clouds out there. Thats but look at the city hall lit up in greene getting ready for saint pattys day. We do have chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow here with a look at our forecast. Arent sun shining tomorrow . Yeah. I think see the sun coming back. A little break in the Stormy Weather right around Saint Patricks and we Start Talking about some temperatures in the 70s, maybe couple 80s, but we still have some Winter Weather to go between now and then, of course, as youve seen, theyve had a ton of snow in the Sierra Nevada boy, theyre still digging out cars up there as well. And some of the homes, all that snow piling up, just make it hard to get around. A few more snow showers out there today. But most that just some scattered activity. In fact, further south, more of that as well. Even some thunderstorms as you make your way into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. 2 they are also going to catch a break. So if youve been waiting for a moment to get up to the high country and enjoy some of that fresh powder. You know what i think these next couple days, probably a pretty good time to go. And weve seen some amazing totals to, in fact, remember back in the beginning of january, were talking about the snow level. Were concerned it was only about 30 of normal. Now youre looking at 112 normal in the northern sierra, the central Sierra Nevada 103 of normal, about 93 of normal in the southern Sierra Nevada. And weve got more to come. In if you plan on heading up there, the roadways should be open and clear. Watch out for a couple of snow flurries across the higher peaks as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. But then that sunshine kind of takes over comfortable too. As see those numbers moving up into the 40s up there, the roadways open and clear things are not going to stay that way forever, though weve got more storms on the tomorrow. You can see in the afternoon maybe a couple of popup showers, maybe some thunderstorms again in the foothills and the following day looks good point. What a nice travel day to get up in the high country this weekend, though, couple week. Little storms come through. I think the snow level right around 4,005 1000 feet. Maybe a couple of inches of snow. Thats about it out of that one. And then a little bit more of the following day as were going to see will move sunday night into monday. A larger storm does move in on tuesday. So weve got more storms on the horizon. If you plan on headed up there, make sure youre prepared in the high country. It looks like more of that activity on the way. In the meantime, those snow totals. Yeah, well start to add up some more and its already been impressive already. We could see 12 inches, maybe a foot and a half or so across some of the higher peaks between now and next tuesday. Thanks, lawrence. Mayor london breed was pushing for have pasos our property and prop f proposition e pass with roughly 60 of the vote. The measure loosens restrictions on police, which the mayor says will make it easier for them to fight crime in the city. And one of the changes officers will be allowed to chase suspects of retail theft by car property. Also expands police drone usage and public camera surveillance, including the use of facial recognition. The aclu of Northern California opposes the measure, calling it a danger, calling it dangerous and misleading. Meanwhile, prop f will require people receiving welfare to go through Drug Screening and get treatment when necessary. Mayor breed calling it an important new tool to get people into treatment and create more accountability. The coalition on homelessness opposes that measure, calling it a major step backwards. The results of these 2 props have some proclaiming the end of a liberal city. But other say that goes a bit too far from first dan kerman talk with political analyst with their take on what this all means. Puppies passage means and expansion of power for San Francisco police. The passage of prop f means those seeking public assistance may be screened and forced into drug treatment to assess those funds. Some of called this the end of the Progressive Movement in San Francisco. I think the idea that racism is out, its a little bit of an overreaction. You think progressivism has someone sympathizes with working men and women who wants to help those who are unfortunate, who wants to and sure that we have equality. The terms of school has been and always will be a progressive city. Political analysts see this as more of a rejection of some progressive policies related to Public Safety and quality of life. I think theres been an emergency in the city over half a decade and theyve gotten worse in the last couple years behind the you know, the issue of law and order, civil civil behavior, those things have to be addressed. San Francisco Mayor london breed was behind both measures. And the question now is, will this help her reelection bid considering polls show the majority of san franciscans disapprove of the job shes doing these victories in these positions that he supported. Absolutely a positive campaign. Its a campaign that needs positive positive it will certainly help her. If she can take she can take actions and that makes this search will impact on the quality of life of the people of San Francisco. Then yes, you can benefit from them. But from now, all she has is another thing that she has to do in order to convince people to get off at 71 disapproval rating. Political analysts, though, are divided as to whether these election results. Could end up propelling progressive supervisor. Aaron peskin to enter the mayors race are making rethink that idea. He has a chance to appeal to a broad a swath of the knows how to talk about these issues in a way that does not put him at odds with where a lot of voters are. Yeah, the question is whether or not he even gets enough votes to make it into the second or 3rd tier in ranked Choice Voting and if thats not the case, you know, i think its going to be really hard for him to you want to mount a campaign at this point . As High Pressure takes over, we start to clear out your skies maybe some offshore winds overnight lows tonight going to be down to about 36 degrees getting cold in santa rosa. 38 in livermore down about 44 degrees in chile in san jose. By day tomorrow, were enjoying some sunshine, really some nice, comfortable weather as warm. A 66 degrees in santa rosa. 63 in san jose and a sunny 60 in San Francisco over the next 10 days. Boy, this couple look great. Of course this weekend we spring forward temperatures going to cool off chance. Some showers.
