There doing this to rebuild public trust following californias dmv suspension over safety concerns. The Company Already stopped operations of their Driverless Cars here in San Francisco. But now be rides are stopping everywhere. One expert telling us the company news to debug before getting back on the road. Its been a bad week for selfdriving car company. Cruise. Just days after having their robotaxi permits revoked in california. Theyre now pausing driverless operations nationwide. The Company Making the announcement on ax formally known as Twitter Thursday night saying the most important thing for us right now is to take steps to rebuild public trust. Its actually the right thing to do. They have to make sure that people feel safe and the car and outside the car. San jose state engineering professor ahmed banafa says crews needs to look at how deep the problem is. There have been a number of incidents of the selfdriving cars malfunctioning on San Francisco streets. And in one recent case, the victim of a hit and run driver was run over trapped and then dragged by a cruise car. Cruise says the driverless pause is not related to any new on road incidents and it will allow them to examine their processes systems and tools. But office says they need to debug and you have to look very hard at both the software and the hardware. Its definitely a machine. That is no question about testing the avs in San Francisco might be something crews should also reconsider. But office says the citys topography traffic and geography make it tough to test in. But San Francisco is also ground 0 for artificial intelligence. Cruises biggest competitor. Waymo has not faced the same heat from regulators. But pushback has been growing. But the number one thing here is they got to be safe. So when will the cruise cars be off the road . We wont see them for a while, right . So here in San Francisco that already happened. They already said as soon as the dmv came down, they said, ok, were going to pull back on this. As for the other cars, appears to be affective immediately from what i understand there are only operating in maybe 3 or 4 other states right now. A lot of the supervised vehicles are going on in austin, in miami, but i think phoenix and atlanta are the only other places that are doing the robot. That happened last night near high street and international boulevard. Police say that a stolen suv was speeding when it crashed into a car. They say that the impact cars that suv to i hit 2 parked cars on curbs on the curb, their pinning the victims leg between them, the driver of the stolen suv ran off. The victim died in the hospital. Anyone with information is being asked to call oakland police, oakland mayor sheng thao says that the city will soon have a new police chief today on kron. 4 news at noon. The mayor told us that the Police Commission has been hard at work and will be making its recommendations to fill that position shortly. Mayor thao says that oakland, well have a new chief before the end of the year. The bay area pilot accused of trying to shut down the engines of Alaska Airlines jet midflight made his first appearance in federal court today. No. Well, vicki Joseph Emerson is accused of trying to shut down the jet engines midflight. On sunday by deactivating the planes Fire Suppression system. Federal Court Documents reveal amerson told the pilots, quote, im not ok. Before reaching up and grabbing the red fire handles and pulling them down. This is the moment. Emerson was escorted off that plane. He was off duty and was riding in the cockpit at the time of the incident. He was stopped by the 2 pilots flying the plane and was escorted to the back of the aircraft. Court documents reveal the Flight Attendants say he turns toward an emergency exit door and tried to grab the handle but was stopped by one of those attendance. Another Flight Attendant in Court Documents say she heard him say i messed everything up and that he tried to kill everybody. Despite those statements, his attorney told reporters there was no intention to harm himself or other people. His wife saying this is not my joe. He never would have knowingly done any of that. That is not the man i married. Barely Mental Health. Well play a role in the case essentially tampered with the aircraft and what hes describing is an impulsive act. Now this Luxury Resort is now facing a lawsuit by 2 of its loyal customers who say they were sexually assaulted by a staff member here. During sunset at the ritz carlton in Half Moon Bay guests can be seen enjoying the property in coastal views. A husband and wife state here one night last november for a restful weekend to celebrate her birthday and visit their daughter attending a nearby university. But their stay is now being described as causing horror and trauma. Court documents filed this month identified the couple as jane and john doe stating jane drink seem in contaminated water from a water bottle served by ritz carlton staffer. The lawsuit claims once she realized what she ingested, they contacted Hotel Management and filed a report with the San Mateo CountySheriffs Office. Court documents say the ritz carlton later sent a water bottle to a laboratory for testing and results confirmed it contains seaman in january. However, they say the hotel allegedly refused to provide a copy of the Lab Test Results to the does so they could share them with their medical providers. And the couple claims the hotel refused to work with Law Enforcement as well. So the Sheriffs Office never received the defile water bottle for evidence. And for dna testing, the person responsible has not been identified or arrested. Court documents say jane was terrified and feared she may test positive for a sexually transmitted virus. The couple says the hotel attempted to compensate for their troubles by offering Marriott Rewards points. The do say the damage goes far beyond that. They say they were sexually assaulted and exploited due to the hotels negligence. The wife and husband have both gone to therapy since the incident. The lawsuit seeks to remedy the Emotional Distress caused the 2 on the hotel to pay for damages for battery and negligence as well as the legal costs. Theyre also asking for a jury trial to settle this case. We reached out to ritz carlton as well as the San Mateo CountySheriffs Office. But we did not hear back in time for this report. The kron 4 took nearly 60 years ago to see if anythings changed. These are the streets of San Francisco. Some might prefer to avoid in the dead of night. For a lot of people, nighttime is a scary time. Its when the demons come out. Its when loneliness sets and isolation sets in at night is often times when we need some connection. That from the Night Ministry comes alive. The home of the world around like upside down walking the tenderloin north beach, the mission, the castro, and theyve been doing it since 1960. Goals story is about people in trouble. Kron 4 went out onto the streets with San Franciscos first night minister reverend donald. Stuart, this is part of a 1966, documentary called shepherd of the streets. In 3 months, hes contacted 60 potential suicide talk with countless alcoholics procures, prostitutes and drug addicts. Hes broken up numerous fights and been attacked twice for nearly 60 years. The Night Ministry tends to people who inhabit the dark places. The unhoused the drug in distressed the down and and some who just work the graveyard shift. Mister brown is a bouncer and barker at the condors strip club. Seen it all. So ive been on the block like almost 10 with the night. And shes always or not. They dont question i went out with a Night Ministry to see for myself. The streets changed or they need are now. That does seem to be a bit of an edginess last couple of years, especially since the pandemic. My cameraman to hear and i are with reverend trend situation has no illusions of solving the citys challenges. And the Night Ministry not. The solution to homelessness. The aim is to comfort, not convert. Knight ministers are christian, jewish, buddhist, in fact, all face. I feel like the soul of San Francisco is suffering right now. C. , come up with a plan to try to crack down on retail theft. 2 senators from both sides of the aisle introduced a bill to create an agency to help Law Enforcement investigate and prosecute thieves across state lines. The bill has the support of almost 80 lawmakers in the house and senate. But more will be needed to sign on for that bill to pass. As Governor Newsom continues his trip to china, hes focusing on his plan to ban the sale of all new gaspowered cars. In the state over the next decade, he says his plan is already happening, saying that more than 1. 5 million 0 emission vehicles already been sold here in california. Everyone thought that was a radical act. And they said youre simply over your skis. Were not producing enough 0 emission vehicles. Theres no way will cheat it. Theres not enough market demand in q 3 of this year already. 27 of all cars sold in california. Are now 0 for me. The newsom administrations says so far that the state is more than 90,000 chargers for these electric vehicles. Maybe not seeing a snow but maybe a couple patches of frost in parts of the north bay as these temperatures going to get really cold fact, just a little further north, get the lake county get a little further north. That mendocino. Were talking about some freeze warnings, but some temperatures maybe dropping down in the mid 20s there. Youve got frost advisories for the south in the clear lake and upper lake mendocino could see those temperatures drop and low 30s overnight tonight with some patchy frost. Now the bay area still be cold in spots, especially in the north bay. Check out some of those numbers down to about 35 degrees in santa rosa. Wouldnt be shocked to see a couple patches of frost in and around that area and some of the cold valleys. 39 degrees in napa. 38 in nevada. Weve got 40s elsewhere around the bay area. So a bit chilly out there. The coolest temperatures weve had this season numbers just begin drop off tonight. Youre looking at 47 degrees now in pacifica. 54 in San Francisco in the north bay. Thats where were starting to see some of those colder numbers. Now, 43 in santa rosa. 42 in calistoga. 42 in saint lena. Overall, right now, weve just got a couple high clouds off our coastline. Some of thats going to sweep on shore overnight and tomorrow weve got that weak ridge of high pressure. And then here comes this a weak front and you can see not much energy to it. So well keep mostly clear skies in the forecast. Temperatures rather mild around the bay area for tomorrow. So yeah, along the coastline in the San Francisco, maybe a little bit cool. Weve got numbers in the 62 downtown San Francisco coast side. Youre looking at those number generally in the 50s and a bit breezy and so that will make it feel extra cool. There as you work way down the middle peninsula.
