The Union Representing teachers in the San FranciscoUnified School District have announced a tentative deal with the district and this hopefully will avert that possible strike. We were talking about you remember earlier this month, the union voted to authorize a strike if contract negotiations broke down. But this morning the union posted on x that a tentative deal has been reached. They came to that agreement about 6 oclock this morning. According to the post of the agreement is for 2 years. The union says it includes substantial raises improved working conditions and more students support. So put it before the rank and file. Well see if and the majority of teachers approves it and averts a strike. Well, happening tonight in the south bay, a main thoroughfares set to be closed this entire weekend. No problems. But the clock is ticking on commuters because come 9 oclock tonight, you will not be able to go southbound, which is the nearest lanes to us northbound. It will not cover that stretch of highway 87 caltrans. They decided instead of just doing overnight work many times they decided lets just get it done one time. They met with the city council on wednesday to explain the companys actions after last thanksgivings release of material refinery manager Daniel Ingram says that the company was actually unaware that the release was affecting the Martinez Community and they held off on telling authorities until they can better assess whether the release was harmful. Well, the refinery released an estimated 20 to 24 tons of spent catalyst into the surrounding community overnight. They were also 3 coke dust incidents in the last 3 months. One of which was carried into the community by when back in july. Ingram says that the refinery has begun notifying the Health Department immediately as part of its new procedures as well as new mandatory Safety Training and expanding its environmental safety staff. Oakland firefighters fought the flames and by that evening thought they had it under control. But the region was in the 5th year of a massive drought at the time and strong winds overnight fanned those embers back into a raging fire storm the next day with those flames racing over the hills to this day. We charge them also with Identity Theft and being in possession of a stolen vehicle. Well, the man accused of Trafficking Cocaine and Alameda County and now is facing 24 years in prison. Alfredo. Perez, hes accused of possessing 10 or more kilos of cocaine for sale and child abuse to for storing contraband in the room in close proximity of a child. The Alameda CountyDistrict Attorneys Office says that a search warrant at the home found cocaine, 2 loaded firearms and more than 100,000 in cash. His next court date is set for next tuesday or next thursday. Well, if you havent paid your taxes yet, youve got some luck going your way this week, the deadline to submit federal and state taxes was pushed back yet again to midnovember. Capitol correspondent. Eytan wallace, though, has more on what this tax deadline extension means for californias budget. As the state grapples with a multibillion dollar deficit. For the second time this year, the irs and state Franchise Tax board have delayed the tax filing deadline for millions of californians. The new deadline date november 16. Earlier this year as a result of deadly winter storms. The tax deadline was pushed back from the usual april 15th date to midoctober. Now that its been pushed back by another month. Government Officials Say that means the state will not know whats to tax revenues until at least midnovember. The California Department of finance expects 42 billion dollars to come in by midnovember. But given the uncertainty of the markets, deputy director, a few palmer says theres always a possibility less money than that actually comes in a big question. Mark. A big if. Still is out there and were in the middle of that could have major ramifications for the states 30 plus billion dollar budget deficit. But palmer says the good news for now as of the most uptodate data from july and august, the states revenues were coming in as projected 22 billion dollars coming in as expected during those months. Still amid the new tax deadline extension, he stresses cautious optimism. Thats a shift that the state has never had to do before in terms of delaying tax payments for that long, a period of time. Weve never had to do that before. So that has a new level of challenge risk uncertainty. And thats why he says the governor cited costs and budget concerns and about 40 of the bills he vetoed this year. The governor in many cases look at these bills and said good policy idea. But given the costs associated with it, not the time to consider right now. Republicans say they appreciate that, but they also believe more fiscal prudence. He will be necessary revenues come in short. It was good to see a lot of the governors veto messages reflecting a concern about speding and thats a good sign. But real fiscal discipline will be actually bringing spending in line with revenues
