The bay area is coming together in the wake of the deadly war going on now in the middle east, the conflict started saturday when hamas fired into and invaded israel on the ground launching an unprecedented attack that has now killed close to 2000 people, including women, children, even babies. A top Israeli Military officer says the death toll in israel from hamas has surpassed onethousand that authorities in gaza and in the west bank area say 850 people have been killed since israel started responding. Israels been retaliating with relentless airstrikes on gaza valley to topple hamas. Rulers of the palestinian territory. The un is reporting at least 200,000 people have also been displaced tonight in San Francisco, people gathered at dolores park for a public prayer for both palestinians. Tonights event aimed to be us safe space for everyone to grieve and pray for all the people affected by the war. Dozens of people gathered in San Franciscos dolores park tuesday night to recite the mourners cottage. A jewish prayer meant to mourn the death of a loved one. Organization, if not now bay area organized this event for people to grieve together of all the lives lost in the israel, hamas war, both palestinians and israelis, despite sprinkles of rain coming down, 3 candles glowed in their it was an extremely powerful event. Im so grateful for all the people who share their stories and were willing to show up with their full selves, all their grief, other emotion. Nearly 1000 people showed up in downtown walnut creek tonight. To show their support for israel, the event called prayer for israel began at the citys civic park. These are some images from a rabbi who attended people carrying israeli flags as they gathered for a moment of prayer. Then the crowd marched through downtown spending time in and around broadway plaza. Tomorrow will be day 5 of the war. As of right now, 14 americans are confirmed dead. Hamas has an estimated 150 hostages, some of whom are americans. The white house said today at least 20 americans are missing east bay. Congressman Eric Swalwell says hes working with families of some of those u. S. Hostages. Today he met with muslim and Jewish Community leaders from his district in the east bay. Tonight, the parents of a berkeley native living in israel now trying to figure out where their loved one is. His family says he was taken hostage along with several others by hamas militants after they bombed an outdoor music festival. He was attending near the gaza strip, according to his mother, twentythreeyearold hirsch goldberg, poland, sot refuge with others in a bomb shelter, which was eventually attacked by hamas during gun battle. Her mother says. Or his mother says her sons arm was blown off from the elbow down. She says when the gunfire settled, hamas told anyone who could walk to get up and get out. Police say they shot the driver after he smashed a car through the front of the consulate. They have not said what prompted the officer to shoot nor what motivated the driver to drive into the building. Police are expected to share more details at an upcoming town hall. The visa office at the consulate is closed until further notice. Lot of People Living in San Franciscos hayes valley neighborhood say theyre really concerned about fires at homeless encampments. We have pictures from saturday afternoon last weekend. This is the corner of goff and page San Francisco, firefighters and Police Responded to a homeless encampment that caught fire. Right down to the ground. And you see in the pictures that is sidewalk was charred. Theres nothing left from what was ever in that tent right a power pole. The particle itself is even scarred. Planters have been set up there along the sidewalks to deter encampments. The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association says multiple complaints about encampments are sent to the city on a daily basis. Another retailer in San Franciscos union square is closing express posting a sign at its entrance today. One man arrested in antioch now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for allegedly stealing mail keys another 25 years. Each for 2 armed robberies. Carriers are frightened to death. Thats High Pressure ridge building in right off the pacific. That is going to bring that normally when a warm us up as early as tomorrow. I think were looking at sunshine in Half Moon Bay in the afternoon. 64 degrees there. 75 and 75 degrees in napa. So some really nice weather. I think the next couple days looking good warming things up on thursday. Friday gets a little bit. If the i think first part of the day looks okay by friday night. Another weak storm rolling in and maybe a few showers into early on saturday. Then another chance of rain on monday. The good news is the weekend.
