We now know that more than 1800 people from both sides have died in this conflict just over the past few days. And this number does include 14 americans. Right now. Israel is retaliating with relentless airstrikes on gaza as the targets that terrorist organization. Were looking now at the destruction in gaza. 150 hostages from israel are still being held captive by hamas. There. And now we know that some of them are u. S. Citizens. President biden speaking moments ago saying that the u. S. Stands with israel. Because president . I have no higher priority the safety of americans being held hostage around the world. Brutality of the mosque. Bloodthirsty. Brings to mind the worst, the worst rampages of isis. This is tears. President biden also saying that israel will receive the military assistance. A 23 yearold berkeley native living in israel has now been missing since saturday. Kron 4 to call reports his parents say he was taken hostage by hamas after the militants bombed an outdoor Music Festival. He was attending right near the gaza strip. We know that. He was injured in a gun battle. Hearst goldberg, polands mother, Rachel Goldberg detailing witness accounts of the last moment her 23 yearold son was seen alive. Goldberg, polands parents joining other families of missing loved ones during a News Conference that the Carlton Hotel in israel, they were all civilians at a Music Festival in. They were fish in a barrel. Goldberg says her son and other festival goers were ambushed by hamas saturday during the outdoor Music Festival close to the gaza border. At least 260 people were killed and several others, including goldberg, poland taken hostage. His mother says he sought refuge in a bomb shelter before it was attacked. And they were put on a pickup truck. And driven away by hummus. On saturday morning goldberg, poland sent his father to Text Messages reading, quote, i love you and then followed up by quote, im sorry he has not been seen or heard from since the goldbergs and other families are asking the american and israeli governments to help the hostages. So now 150,000 is being offered for tips leading to arrests and convictions. Kids are now the keys to prison. If youre found with these. Its simply not worth it. Federal investigators are going after criminals to discourage more of them from continuing to target and assault mail carriers. On tuesday, prosecutors announced the arrest of 10 people who either attacked or robbed a bay area. Postal worker, they say its a growing problem that comes with a heavy price for those who are caught. One man arrested in antioch now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for allegedly stealing mail keys and another 25 years. Each for 2 armed robberies. To any copycats are wannabes. Out there who might consider robbing a postal worker. I ask you to consider. The years you will face in federal prison. The price on your head. And that postal inspectors will not stop hunting. You. Union representatives say some mail carrier members now suffer from ptsd and are not coming back to work. A lot of tears dont wake up in the morning. You know, wondering, you know, if theres stick a gun in their face, a reward for tips leading to arrests and convictions has gone up from 50,000 to 150,000. Authorities hope that money will help with their investigations and that the prison time will help dissuade wouldbe thieves. But at the end of the day, its all about keeping the mail and the postal workers safe are carriers are just trying to deliver your mail to you. And they are part of the community and they are afraid this has to stop. And San Francisco, the city has just filed a lawsuit against the owners multiple chinatown apartment buildings claiming that the properties have not been properly maintained. Thanks for joining well, the city of San Francisco says that after years of trying they have failed to get these landowners to our landlords to comply with city code and they say theyre taking advantage of their tenants and now theyre taking legal action. Tuesday morning. San Francisco City attorney david chiu announced that the city is suing the owners of 3 single room occupancy or sro hotels in chinatown. Theyre located at 14. 49 powell street 7. 90, vallejo street and 9. 12, jackson street. The citys alleging that the landlords of these buildings have failed to properly maintain their properties. They say that the tenants, most of whom are immigrants have had to deal with among other things, broken in rusted, plumbing, broken doors and locks exposed wiring a lack of emergency exits, broken windows, lead paint, insect and rodent infestations and the lack of smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors. I got out those time speaking at a press conference, residents claim that theyve been dealing with these problems for years out. Yeah, they stop providing regular cleaning and has they know would repairs. We have a problem with voting and what broken windows. And that theres all the not and much more. Theyve profited off the suffering of their tenants. David chu says that the city has tried repeatedly to get the landlords to address the problems with little or no success. He says that filing a lawsuit was a last resort. Lawsuits are not the first option for us to move forward. What were always trying to do, a city departments, our clients are always trying to work with landlords to bring conditions up to code and thats what they attempted to do with these landlords for a number of years. Unfortunately, the landlords to not do that. And that is why were here today. Theyre now asking that the owners address the problems and provide the tenants with relief. All right, back live. Happening tonight, the snow glen school board will meet to discuss repealing the ban on displaying the pride flag at school. Right now. The rule say thats no glenn. The School District can only fly the American Flag and the california state flag in front of the school. It went into effect on september. 12th and a 2 to one vote. A resolution will be introduced at tonights meeting to try and repeal that ban. Very heavy around here. Its become a very sort of toxic work environment. Its been, you know, flags were removed. The first person in california to be convicted of murder in connection with fentanyl. Distribution was sentenced to 15 years in prison today. Nathan kabul coming in was found guilty in july of causing the fentanyl death of a 15 yearold girl from roseville last year. Prosecutors say that he possessed and transported fentanyl. That was pressed into pills to look like a perk reset. They said that he provided those pills to the girl which ultimately claimed her life. California attorney general rob bonta was at the courthouse in roseville for the sentencing. California and across the nation, we are witnessing a devastating rice in young people. Died by accidental fentanyl overdose. We cant stress enough how dangerous fentanyl its cheap. Its potent and its lethal. I want to just take a look ahead and remind us all that this work easy. Theres more work to do. The suspect is also charged with meeting his young victim to engage in lewd acts. Today the mayor of san jose announced a new plan to support the Artificial Intelligence industry. The mayor talked about the challenges that san jose faces from homelessness to crime and Traffic Safety. And how ai can be used to help find solutions. He believes ai is an important part of san joses future. In the city departments we have energy or municipal water or transportation and roadway maintenance where ai applications could be used to better detect problems and better deliver solutions.
