When fun time from the bay areas local news station. Youre watching 4 news. Thanks for joining us tonight on kron. 4 news at 10, everybody. Im grant lotus Vicki Liviakis. Our top story tonight. Should oakland get theyre all police chief back . Well, that was the main question asked at tonights town hall. It was hosted by the Oakland Police commission. They are considering whether or not to recommend the mayor reinstate lauren armstrong. And as kron 4 Sarah Stinson reports tonight, dozens of people attended to share their opinions. People came to the Oakland PoliceCommission Meeting and they overwhelmingly supported former chief Leronne Armstrong. Very few people got up speaking against him being reinstated. Not and weve been we had 5 public forms. Weve heard from 350 people before even tonight when they said when we asked what he wanted, a chief people said we want run option. The chair of the Oakland Police commission, doctor tie pharma lely says they canceled thursdays meeting because not enough commissioners attended folks who for whatever reasons decided to abstain from could possibly prevent us from voting recommend any chief. Says she knew this would happen so they preemptively planned a town hall to ask the community if they think the commission should recommend the mayor to give former police chief Leronne Armstrong his job back. Most people stood before the commission saying the only candidate that should be considered is the former stickney for chief armstrong. I believe in him hes going to do a great job open. Hes for whatever it takes to getting back. We will. We the people oakland. We want chief armstrong, instated. The verdict is in. He should be immediately return to is jack. He should not have to go through an application. Jennys ilya held up a sign that read. I support mayor thao. Let her lead during the entire town hall. She was in the minority speaking in favor of mayor tells decision to fire the chief back in january after a federal monitor report found that armstrong failed to discipline an officer for misconduct. Well, i think its kind of a slap in the face for them to to recommend it. He be reinstated. The decision that shane town made she made that decision. She has authority to make that decision. And its a dundeel. The chair of the Oakland PoliceCommission Hopes to have enough attendance. They can finally make a vote on october. 12th about whether or not they want to recommend the mayor to reinstate chief armstrong. Im sara stinson reporting in oakland. Back to you. Well, armstrong was initially fired because of the federal monitor report this month. An Appeals Court arbiter cleared him of any wrongdoing. Despite this mayor sheng thao is Standing Firm on her decision to not reinstate of the former chief armstrong. She told us today that armstrong is not the right person for the job. For me, its important to have a chief who can come on understand not just the culture of oakland in the community of oakland and be a part of that. But at the same time, hold a standard holder stander of making sure that we create the reforms that are demanded of us by the federal oversight. And so that means that chief must be able to work with the federal monitor and the federal judge. And unfortunately, i dont believe that that would be the case with mister armstrong. The Anti Police Terror project also released a statement opposing armstrongs reinstatement saying, quote, throughout armstrongs 10 year the opd was mired in numerous scandals ranging from officers employing Excessive Force against black children during the george floyd protest to willfully ignoring instances of racist and sexist misconduct within the department. And there you go. By late today, were talking 2030, mile an hour gusts around a good part of the bay area. Thats a significant when that will be kicking in and definitely feeling cooler outside. Mostly clear overnight tonight, just a bit on the cool side overnight lows in the 40s. The 50s tomorrow partly cloudy and then yeah, get pretty brisk breezy into the afternoon and then unsettled weather with a chance of showers this weekend. Hey, speaking of showers, how about some snow showers . This the first time weve been looking at a Winter Weather advisory this season and well, there you go. The winds start to pick up then on saturday, probably get the better chance of a few showers out there. Again, this is going to be scattered showers, not a big wall of rain rolling on through. And then you see that low just kind of spinning around rotating through the bay area. Maybe an isolated thunderstorm could pop up in the afternoon on saturday. And then the whole system begins to sag for the south and move east. And thats where we Start Talking about some of those snow showers. As far as rain amounts. Yeah. The models kind of having a hard time of the storm system with scattered showers 30 light around the bay area. But as you get inland, yeah, youre talking about maybe a thunderstorm or 2 and that could be a little more significant temperatures yes, going to be cooler out there. Still not bad. Lots of 60s and 70s and your 10 to 10 for you. Yeah, it looks like the next couple days. The temperatures really come down a bit of a chance scattered showers.
