The burning man festival in northern nevada. From the areas local news station. Youre watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. Good morning. Thank you for joining us on this labor day monday, september 4th, James Fletcher and im reyna harvey in for darya folsom today. And we get was nice. It was yeah. A lot of folks got out of town in town a whole lot of folks coming back today. So that may be a crush come later on this afternoon on the roads will have to keep an eye on that. But yeah, weather watch this weekend spent the edge on just like you promised. It was going to be a good weekend. It was. Yeah, definitely a cool Labor Day Weekend. Way cooler than were normal for this time of remember last thinking how hot it was never thought that this Labor Day Weekend for sure. Something that were seeing outside this morning is some pretty deep marine lair looking out there from sutro tower across the day. You can see that low cloud cover. Its going to push tried making for the gray morning. We have for a lot of us expect this over the next couple of hours. Something that is going make for a great start. But we do get right back to that sunshine. Very similar as to what we saw yesterday. Great morning. And then a great morning. And then a partly cloudy to mostly sunn rest of the day. As for where were sitting right now, another cool start. But today does get a little bit warmer. Temperatures will climb back up into the 80s for a lot of our inland areas. After taking a break from the 80s the past few days. Right now its 50s and 60s brentwood in livermore at 62 degrees. Berkeley, 59 nevado at 55. On the light jacket. If youre going to be outside for more than just a few minutes as we move into the afternoon day time highs to rise back into the 80s. As i mentioned, inland, lot of 70s along the bay shore and certainly nothing wrong with this forecast. But we are starting to trend warmer and ill get to the rest of that in your sevenday forecast rain. All right, john, thank you for that, ok . So, you know, later on today, were really going to see the traffic. But as far as this morning goes, things are still pretty light. 8 minutes heading into the city this morning or san matteo bridge around 13. Richmond center fell bridge a little under 7 and the Golden Gate Bridge smooth sailing. A 19 minute morning ride. Well, 72 is the time and today is the activists. Actors roots of the holiday are especially visible this time of year. Unions across the country challenging their workers and, you know, to demand better treatment. You know, this year, youve seen emboldened labor movement. So here in the bay area, weve seen teachers, you got the city workers, Airline Workers are all hitting the picket lines and its the same story across the country. Experts say nationwide we are in an environment closer to the air, which was born almost 130 years ago. I know in hollywood writers, as we know, theyve been officially on strike for about 4 months now. Actors join them on the picket lines in july. Both unions are seeking better compensation and better protections when it comes to the use of artificial intelligence, they dont want their jobs being lost to that technology negotiations. There are set to resume on friday nationally just in the last month. Weve seen auto workers in detroit and flight attendants for American Airlines voting to authorize strikes as well and unionized workers at ups threatened a mass walkout before getting a new contract late last month. All right. Well, here at home, you have 1000 healthcare workers, theyre going all a labor day rally in march in oakland this morning, seiu, United Healthcare workers west they say unsafe staffing during the pandemic actually led to a lot of folks burning now, many workers leaving Health Care Systems and even organizers say that todays rally and march, well showcase the importance of labor unions advocated for fair wages and even better working conditions. So much of our country, institutional structures, its coach or politically, its its like is to do. With flavor and the labor movement. All right. The rally in oakland is set for 9. 30 this morning. Thats going to be mosswood park. The march is going to start at in case a factor that into your morning if you are going commuting in that area for your money this morning, if you have to fill up your tank before taking the family out, this or if youre coming home. From a weekend trip, weve got a look at how much gas prices are here in the bay area as a cheap growers. Michael thomas is live in lafayette. Show us how much you can expect to pay today. I think i paid a little over 200 due riley. Michaels expensive. Wow. You a down payment would for an actual you know, when we talk about these gas prices, i mean, really everything can get a in between those prices rising and lowering and so much. And actually we compare them to last year were down 0. 2. But here in the bay area, specifically california were up actually up since last week. Lets go in a video so i can break it all down. Now, according to triple a, they say that todays National Average is 2 to 3. 82. Thats 0. 7 more than it was a month ago. But still 0. 2 less than it was last year. But here in california, the average gas price is 5 and 0. 32 per gallon, which is up 0. 3 from last week. And that was thursday when i was covering the story. You know, thats a 1. 50 higher than the National Average. Take a look at these prices. We have across the bay area triple a shows. Theres nowhere with gas. Less than 5 in napa. Were looking at prices of 5 and 0. 42 being the highest all the way down to Solano County being the cheapest, which is around 5 and 0. 27. So were currently in the top 10 areas of the country with the most expensive gas and currently right now where im at gas is 5 and 0. 59 at the for regular in the premium is 5. 97. One of my colleagues here just told me that he paid around 6 for gas. You can it is going up and rain like you said, 200. Its probably average for most people right now. Thats very latest here in lafayette. Michael thomas send it back to you. All right, michael, thank you for that. And time now 706. And once you do fill up at the pump, its good to know the best times to drive today as you hit the road. So lets take a look 48 to play the best time to drive is from 10 this morning until 06 00pm. Thats right. And the worst time to drive is after 07 00pm. So just factor that in keeping in mind. All right. Well, happening now, 80 westbound right between 7. 80, in vallejo on highway 4 hercules remember still closed, caltrans. Theyre repaving several lanes on that roadway. Westbound traffic on 80 is now being rerouted through benicia right across nation. Martinez bridge and onto highway 4. Now we asked caltrans about their choice to conduct the repairs over Labor Day Weekend. Heres what they said. Yeah, you know, theres never really a good time to close a major highway, right . But we you know, requests from over as we heard the concerns for boaters that this portion of west. But it was just pretty much unsafe. The payment was in poor conditions. So to go in there. If we wanted to make sure that the highway was safe for motorists go in there and make sure that have that a construction that do know there. Can withhold for the next 40 years. So right now what were doing is we look at our traffic data what it showed was that we actually have traffic counts during the Labor Day Weekend and the number of traffic coming to this region is very low because most of the motor heading towards the east or sacramento to top of drivers coming back to the bay area today will have to use that detour. Officials say painting should be finished by 05 00am tomorrow. Some good news. Yeah. And then one person was cited for allegedly letting a suspended drive or operate a vehicle. Police say dui checkpoint locations are picked based on reported incidents of impaired related crashes. Those who stayed were told to shelter in place and conserve food, water and fuel. Thank god. My friends who invited me very prepared. They were conserving a little bit. Were not were were not getting as many snacks the days we might have. And were were conserving our water like everybodys checking to make sure you have enough fuel of the of probate ford was initially camping but is now staying in an rv with some other people. She says she had no idea. This weather was possible. But those who chose to stay are rolling with it for the most part everybody i encountered. Get on with it. You know, its part of being as part of being a burner. Ive been taught. Every year you deal with some kind of obstacle and how you deal with that popsicle kind of defines whether you should be coming here. Not festival. Officials are hoping to reopen the road monday say that i survived the 2023 burning man flood. Yes, that theyve got a story. Thats for sure. Those amanda hari reporting the and burn was initially supposed to happen saturday and then that was moved the last night because the weather its supposed to happened today. Now. All right.
