Looking really light right now john but turn on those car heaters right chilly out there right now. Youre looking out to folks coming out of macarthur maze right now trying to get into a San Francisco across the upper deck just under 10 minute drive time for you the span into San Francisco getting to that fremont street heading over to the san mateo bridge looking well were definitely seeing a more cars on the road on the right hand side, your screen thats the commute side. But hey nothing in your way its going to be a smoother ride over to the peninsula. And im clocking in at about 12 minutes for your westbound 92 right ill be back with the richmond san mateo bridge or the Richmond Sandra fell bridge rather and the golden gate coming up back to the news. Thanks a lot. It is 5 oh one and our top story more than 2,800 people died of coronavirus yesterday with a new record of more than a 185,000 new covid infections here in the bay area Santa Clara County is seeing record covid cases and hospitalizations. With new outbreaks in Nursing Homes and longterm care facilities and a large outbreak at a homeless shelter. Lets go to kron fours will tran hes live in san jose with a look at the latest on how things are right now will. During im in front of the Health Department and they were fearful that those facilities that james talked about would see a rise in covid19 cases which is why 9 months ago they tried to train the people at those facilities to be careful. But despite the training we are seeing an explosion in cases where people are coming and going or in certain cases staying for quite some time as far as the homeless shelter. We are talking about the book Reception Center where 56 people there came down with covid19 and 4 Staff Members and that recently was discovered by the Health Department as far as Nursing Homes to Nursing Homes in santa click Santa Clara County, including the amber woods gardens in that particular facility. Close to about a 150 were talking staff and residents there came down with covid19 and then another facility about 86 cases, but theyre not naming that other particular facility but altogether thats more than 200 cases at 2 facilities. According to the Health Department. They believe the explosion at the longterm care facilities, the Nursing Homes. Its because people are coming and going. Cases rise in the community. That also means that there are more cases that get introduced into these current settings more what we provide we provide testing resources. So we can identify everyone whos been infected. And we provide technical in terms of helping them. Identify of Infection Prevention measures that they can implement to prevent the spread. Those who have been infected this first the Staff Members james and area they have been removed from the facility, so theyre not going to spread it from facility to facility. And the reason why theyre coming in going and not working at one particular facility. Its because theres a shortage of people working at those places so oftentimes they will call around and see if you could come help at those facilities, but now its so depleted. Santa clara county. The Health Department they will step in and try to provide some workers at those Nursing Homes as far as the case is ever since this pandemic started 9 months ago and it is insane i was here when it all started when i was just talking about 12. 15 cases 9 months later, were talking about 36,600 cases in Santa Clara County close to 500 people dying from covid19. Back to you all right, thanks a lot of things sure have gone downhill fast appreciate the update. The outbreaks in Santa Clara County are not limited to Nursing Homes covid cases are also being reported juvenile detention facilities. Its the first outbreak at Santa Clara Countys Juvenile Hall and william after james ranch facilities more than a dozen people including youth and staff have been infected. One deputy public defender believes the county has failed to keep incarcerated youth safe. And says now is the time to release those in custody because of covid. There is a demonstrated need to hold these in in custody, them they should be out because the facility has proven itself incapable of protecting them and keeping them healthy hes already vulnerable kids have been subject to this deadly virus. Santa clara countys adult jails have already experienced outbreaks and have been releasing inmates to bring down the risk of transmission. Time now 5 05 and the bay area could be ringing in the new year under a new stay at home order Governor Newsome released the rules as the state is trying to stabilize hospital capacity, the stay at home order well go into effect by region. If and only there are less than 15 of icu beds available in that region right now in the bay area. Weve got 25 of icu beds that are Still Available not 15 so we have a ways to go at this point the stay at home order could go into effect by the end of the month though at the rate were looking at these hospitalizations and if that were to happen when it happens. It will last 3 weeks and close many businesses that have been open youve gotten used to going to the hair salon wineries bars. Retail those stores that youre going to now theyre still going to be open but they have to cap there capacity at 20 . So you might start seeing lines. And the big difference when it comes to eating out. Is youll have to take away the food only pick up and you take out you cant even eat outside, but that is when the stay at home orders happen. And that has not been triggered yet were just monitoring the icu bed availability. Well Business Owners are sounding off on the possibility of that shut down we spoke with the manager of a baseball in downtown lafayette and she says the governors announcement is already confusing her clients. A lot of our clients by canceling theyre trying to get in sooner before the closure happens. Countless businesses like the baseball were forced to close for the first several months of the pandemic and now theyre looking at having to do that once again potentially. Another big story this morning restaurants in San Francisco are on edge about the fate of Outdoor Dining some restaurants are apparently getting calls at Outdoor Dining will be shut down. This coming weekend which has them worried that means today could very well be the last day you can enjoy eating outside kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live in San Francisco with more on the story sarah. James thats exactly right were hearing from Restaurant Owners saying were hearing from Industry Leaders that theyre going to force everyone to shut down the outdoor eating opportunities for people midnight, however we have reached out to the Mayors Office have not heard back of course it starts right now, standing right next to one of the restaurants on union street where they have an outdoor eating area thats covered is prepared if its going to rain if theyre shine. I mean restaurants have spent thousands of dollars to prepare for Outdoor Dining in the winter another hearing that they could have to shut it all down and its very very disappointing. Now we have been on the edge of our seats all week waiting for mayor london breed to put out more restrictions on top of whatever the states going to do and were still on the edge of our seats so were hoping today mayor london breed has some kind of press conference but even though even so if she decides to shut down outdoor eating as we just heard if hospitals reach that 15 capacity, well, the state is going to shut down the outdoor seating outdoor eating rather and other things that weve been doing under the purple tier. Now we talked with restaurants and one owner says this is very very frustrating. I mean its tough its so so tough to put all that energy into building this winter ice parklet that we have over here were going to weigh all of options whether we close during the or we stick you know delivery options, but delivery options are really feasible for us. And its looking like okay, so they either have this last weekend in midweek his were told that more likely will fall into that shelter in place order that will be triggered by either net mid next week or the following week or malan reid says no we need to prepare now and shut down by midnight on on tonight and then into saturday morning so 2 very bad options for Business Owners but the point of it though we heard from doctors colfax was we need to solve this now we dont want to get to 15 capacity, we dont want it to get any worse and they believe the Outdoor Dining has been one of the reasons been so bad so well send it back to you as we wait for the results of what the mayor decides. All sarah thank you very much for the update there. 5. 10 time and San Mateo CountyHealth Officials have seen a slow and steady rise in hospitalizations but overall the capacity there is they are 70 in anticipation of a surge in coming weeks. They have moved some equipment from the sam show county event center to hospitals across the country county. The event center was set up months ago to treat patients is if the hospitals run out of bed, so far it has not been used Officials Say they even have more options if the number rises beyond what the hospital can handle right now. In San Mateo County. Our capacity is great we can actually stand up. The national guard. We can actually use on 369 of that hospital which is seen hospital. All patients being treated in San Mateo County or local residents. But its possible that additional patients could be brought in from other areas. Lets take a look at the lake in the latest numbers in california. Now were getting close to 1. 3 million positive covid cases in our state and more than 19,500 people statewide have died of coronavirus and that includes 1970 deaths right here in the bay area. Time now 5. 11 coming up on the kron 4 morning news, a dire warning from nurses treating covid19 patients will tell you why they say the Health Care System could break under the pressure plus the push from bay area leaders to make Public School educators a priority when vaccines become available. And after the break a win for churches but it might only be temporary the Supreme Courts latest ruling and how it could impact local houses of worship. And today will be another clear one daytime highs will be back into the 60s and conditions will remain dry all things weve gotten really used to lately. Im talking your weekends forecast ahead. And checking your morning commute if youre going to take in the bay bridge into San Francisco, definitely looking great for you so far this morning under 10 minutes to get over to the fremont street exit all have a complete traffic check coming up after the break stay with us. 14 right now and we are finally weve made it to friday looking at the weekend weather thats nice. Yeah so lets find out whats store for you if you plan on being outside at all good morning. John good morning guys for some reason this week felt really long i think its thanksgiving was last week and that sort of things up for so many but we are looking outside at least a continuation of the good weather that weve had on this back to work week that we did have you can see outside berkeley camera, lots of sunshine up above it is chilly out there. So of course you need to be bundling up as you venture outside this morning skies are nice and clear so your drive into work or maybe just walk around the neighborhood this morning will be greeted by some increasing sunshine later this morning. Futurecast shows you that we remain dry and remain pretty clear throughout the course of the day today with this highpressure ridge in place youve noticed the return of some haze in the sky line the past couple of days and thats something that youre going to see again today that still sinking air does result in some of the smog just settling into the bay area and the Central Valley to our east and that does result in the less than ideal air quality that some of us have been seeing lately High Pressure still in place of course that results in that sinking air, but it also results and the mild and sunny weather that we have enjoyed Good Shopping weather. Good aarons whether go ahead take advantage of that for yet another day the downside of these dry conditions as of course the deepening drought that were seeing for the north bay we have seen extreme drought ever expanding you can see that in that deep red while the Golden Orange that is severe drought that is really just sitting across the rest of the bay area we need to start seeing the rainfall as of right now no models are indicating it, its looking very consistently dry into next week for your second week of december and longrange models are showing that the 3rd week of december could very well keep that going so the start of december, not looking promising for any sort of chances of rain or mountain snowfall that we could one that we would like to be seeing mid 60s for your highs in the south bay today pretty similar to where we were yesterday mid 60s also continue for the east bay. Well that creek danville conquered and san ramon all at 66 while oakland up to the berkeley each at 64 north bay temperatures closest to 70 degrees, not quite there yet though fairfield and vacaville each up to 68 degrees. Santa rosa also up to 68 i am expecting 70s in this forecast into early next week monday and tuesday some low 70s returning a lots of sunshine up above and skies just remaining dry. In lows remain in the 30s bayside lows in coastal lows in the 40s. Dry all the way through next week and as i alluded to in the year 3rd week of december to really not a lot of changes to talk about as we work our way through this month. Rebecca. All right john thank you so much, i know we need the rain but at least to make said to have better for driving conditions and speaking of nice and dry and light for your at the bay bridge toll plaza not going to be a anything in your way coming out of the macarthur maze, its going to be a quick 7 minute trip as you make your way across the upper deck into San Francisco. The san mateo bridge good were seeing more cars of course on the right hand side of your screen. The roadway there westbound 92 but turn no accidents, no stalls and it looks like an easy 12 minute drive time coming out of the east bay heading over to the peninsula on west the 92. Were looking another shot of the bay bridge which is always good but lets switch over to the golden gate south one o one its going to be problem free coming out of the north bay in from highway 37 to the pay gates, its going to be about a 20 minute drive time for you. Coming up, well check the Richmond Sandra fell bridge in just a bit back to the news, thanks a lot of that is 5. 18 and as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations go up Convention Centers and arenas are on standby. And case hospitals need extra beds, the sleep train arena in sacramento is one of those places ready to take patients next week. Erick rucker has more. April of this year. Fox 40 cameras are inside sleep train arena as its transformed into a Field Hospital during the coronavirus pandemic. I can take in over patients those of the beds that could be ready by next wednesday, another 20 beds are already in position to see patients sleep train is one of more than 10 such makeshift hospitals totaling nearly 1900 beds across the state with just days until its reopening as a hospital we ask californias office of Emergency Services for details.
