On the forecast absolutely guys its the weather. The hot weather the dry conditions were still in the midst of. And then of course the winds that have been persistent so far this week and will remain throughout the rest of the week too clear skies towards the coast than we have seen in previous days. But a little less marine layer means that we even do have red flag warnings now in effect for summer coastal spots like Half Moon Bay, upper elevations on the peninsula. All of the inland east bay and those same areas as we had been saying up in the north bay so more red flag warnings as winds do gradually spread across the rest of the bay area, north northeast winds at 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour mostly but upper elevations that are more exposed to those higher gusts could see gusts as high as 40 Miles Per Hour all the way through friday. Maybe calm right now, but look at where we had this afternoon widespread windy conditions breezier for upper elevations, windy or even tomorrow for your thursday, even as temperatures begin to cool down. We hang on to this breeze all the way into friday. So thats where the high fire danger really comes into play. 50s and 60s for your current temperatures at least for most of us back to the 40s fir0t parts of the north bay like petaluma and santa rosa. The way how youre at 57 San Francisco at 58 right now. Later today, it will be 70s for oaklands sf with san jose and 81 today. Robin. Thank you john checking in on the bay bridge toll plaza we had a lot of crowding in the maze and now those folks have made their way up to the bay bridge toll plaza so now we have a little bit of a wait at the pay gates which is no surprise right its about that time heading into work its going to be a little sluggish right at the back from the atv overcrossing thats not too bad 12 minutes is a pretty good average to make it from the bottom of the maze over to the fremont street exit, heres a look at the maison right there in the middle of your screen is where we have some unusual crowding right there leading up to west grand and it looks like most of that has cleared out but youll also notice we have slowing emerging from west 24 on to 5. 80 so that slowdown is still there once again nothing reported just got a little sluggish all of a sudden minor crowding leaving the nimitz freeway as you work your way out of san leandro into hayward 80 south from to 38 to a street. But then 5. 80 looks good livermore to dublin 6. 80 wide open dublin to fremont well check more freeways coming up in a bit back to you, thanks a lot rob, so lets get to one of our big stories this morning. The high fire danger weather thats forcing new red flag warnings for the bay area, a big portion of the east bay is under that red flag warning covers reyna harvey is there shes in orinda with an update good morning ran. Good morning, yeah that fire danger very high a cost the east bay and typically you see Fire Department and Emergency Personnel make sure theyre fully staff on standby thats no exception today they are watching closely were going to show you a map all across the east bay you can see the pockets that are going to be affected by that red flag warning looking on this map you see areas out and conquer livermore here in orinda also in the Berkeley Hills but out in fairfield and danville as well that warning initially was issued for the north bay mountains the east bay hills and the east bay valleys now the san mateo coast has also been added to that list, we know all of that low humidity strong when very dry grass and brush across the east bay we have quite a lot of it so officials are saying be very cautious. We are out operating potentially barbecue grills if you and the family are cooking outside also power equipment, im looking at if you have idol cars around the house and you want to work on those mindful that if either of those things could catch on fire. The risk of that fire spreading is higher over the next few days, according to the National Weather service, red flag warning starts tonight and it last until friday. So just hoping we follow all of these tips will just stay at a warning and nothing more. Now reporting here in the east bay reyna harvey kron 4 news okay. Thank you very much another big story that we covered this morning nearly 7,000 pg e customers in the bay area bracing for another round. Of possible shut off. Yeah the fire danger on the high side and thats whats triggering the speculation we actually have this morning a map this is pg knees projection of where they may turn power off tonight in those those areas in yellow and you can see as we zoom in to the north bay thats where the highest concentration of possible Power Outages is as you might imagine it incorporates a lot of the Higher Elevations, the hillsides there in the napa and Sonoma County areas kron fours will tran is there in napa county right now theyre expected to have the most customers without power for happens tonight will whats going on. Area teams you see the lights right behind in calistoga and the lights are on for now, but there is a good chance. The lights will be turned off a little bit later i was here 2 weeks ago when calistoga was evacuated because of the glass fire. You can see cars coming and going so it makes me happy and makes them happy that at least for now its back to the new norm and the new normal unfortunately calls for Power Outages in napa county and 18 other counties across california impacting about 50 to 70,000 customers so take a look at your screen. The goal according to pg and e is to prevent another wildfires that have devastated california specifically and Napa Sonoma Solano counties in napa county be prepared because pg and e theyve already said as many as 4300 customers could be in the dark by tonight and Solano Sonoma counties its about a 1000 customers and Alameda County approximately 400 customers or so these numbers are fluid because if it gets really bad they will turn off more lights and if its not bad, then they may be hopefully not so bad the goal again is to make sure that if the power lines go down and sometimes they do during gusty conditions that theyre not energized fall down on dry vegetation. Some of the remote places. And then spark another wildfire. Once the danger passes its going to take some time anyway because they have to inspect those lines, sometimes they drive up to the locations, look at the lines and other times they use helicopters to fly along those areas, the bottom line is its going to be a painstaking process. Many people know about it in fact callisto that they got the heads up from News Agencies like ours and thats why they have started to prepare. Im on the wrong side of the river looks like the guy i work for has been here for 40 something years he says ive never seen fires every year like this and all these years well the last 5 years israeli thing, you know Mother Nature this going to do it once. From s. In calistoga just like we talked about last week if youre west of the napa river theres a good chance that your power could be taken off east of the napa river like in calistoga here theres a good chance you might have power but depending on where you live because of the microgrid system that pg and e helped calistoga install and that system allows Emergency Services like hospitals fire stations and police stations to stay running the bottom line is the clock is ticking and a lot of people as you can clearly see trying to take advantage of the situation we will talk to people about the new norm, its not a matter of complaining anymore right james and darya its going to happen the question is are you ready to come back to you. All about preparation. Thank you well, and part of that preparation is having the kron 4 app you can download our app for free kron 4 kron on they have interactive radar and weather alerts and Everything Else you need to get you through a red flag, a word alert or you know high fire danger Power Outages and the like just download those a man was rescued in the dark this morning and kron 4 saw the whole thing happen. Yeah that marshals beach in San Francisco. Thats where kron fours sara stinson is standing by in sayre you were there. For the dramatic rescue. Yeah it was so dark out here those hard to see were here near in the presidio where their steep cliffs and very tough surf out there yet, San Francisco rescuers that the Fire Department they were able to paddle out to this man is a man in his 30s theyre able to get him on a board and rescue him to safety and we think hes been out here for hours and yet he only has hyperthermia and minor injuries take a look at this map so you can see exactly where we are here in the presidio the this was reported around one 30 this morning, multiple 911 calls came in saying there was one or more people trapped in battery crosby in the presidio its a very wooded in dense area, not really accessible. A very steep cliffs near baker beach marshals beach and the Golden Gate Bridge all around here on the cliff side. The 3 people who called 911 got lost themselves as they were looking for the person yelling for help in the dark from one 30 to 4. 30 in the morning, the Fire Department located the man and 3 people who located rule calling for help. Now look at this dramatic video of the rescue that happened just after 5 this morning, it was intense out here in the surf and the rocks right as the coast guard to ride with a helicopter rescuers in the boats below are able to get on that rescue board and paddled to the man stuck out on the rock at least 200 yards. He was unconscious at the time but then was able to assist getting on the board. The man has been brought to a nearby Trauma Center and again. Only has minor injuries and hyperthermia fire crews think that this man had been out here possibly when there was low tide. So worst were talking about hours but as its new dark out here as i said even though the 3 people who called 911 they got lost in the dense area, so this person was out there on the cliff its unclear if that person climbs down to cool rock or if they fell or what theyre still trying to figure out some of remaining questions as to what the person was doing out here, but it makes more sense knowing that they dont think he was hiking around one in the morning that it happened meaning late at night still some question in a lot of things are still looking into but overall a Success Story they were able to save this man in his 30s. But now he only has minor injuries. Reporting live in San FranciscoSarah Stinson back to you. A wild really and that they did all that in the could have gone way differently had they not made those great efforts and it was terrific, thanks a lot sarah. Still ahead on the kron 4 morning news details on the new locations around the bay where you can get a free covid tests. And after the break one woman surveillance camera captures a big Mountain Lion traveling outside of her house were going to hear from scary moments for us an oral woman when she checked her home surveillance camera and saw this a big Mountain Lion roaming her property. Dennis shanahan spoke with her and has more. Well the homeowner we spoke with and her husband are well aware the county is Mountain Lion territory but having one literally at their front door that was very eye opening. Very troubling to know that it was here shana relay received a ring Security Camera defecation on her phone early friday morning at first she ignored it because neighborhood cats often trigger the camera. But this was no ordinary cash. I then proceeded to go outside minutes later walk the dog, a normal day, it wasnt until 8 oclock that morning when i open my rain notification and saw. That was a Mountain Lion that we had missed. The relays posted the video on social media groups for their son or a neighborhood off moto way which prompted comments about pets that had gone missing or been injured or killed up until this time we thought maybe a raccoon what account for but now were thinking baby maybe as the Mountain Lion. The California Department of fish and wildlife typically does not intervene in a situation like this and less a Mountain Lion is deemed a Public Safety hazard, a threat to humans. Thats the response i got when i reported it. Which is fine i totally understand but we just wanted to make sure with a new level of awareness that a Mountain Lion might be in the neighborhood at any time big one shanna says shell check the ring videos more often and be more vigilant went out for a walk. Just always be you never know. This is a great way to generally of all human contact, but if you do encounter one wildlife experts recommend backing away slowly making yourself look very big and making loud aggressive noises if the cat approaches in 2 on the county dennis shanahan. And you check your doorbell camera before you go out on that walk toward him. Im the only person who doesnt have one of those. Package thief i dont know thats just. I guess if you as mainly a concern i guess if you live closer to the hillsides. But yes she been in like downtown San Francisco to some and do we have bills behind my house to mend the dogs go crazy like they do this big like your graham john this coons and my girls inside looking out for those guns looking outside this morning. We do have clear skies all the way up to the coast. There is just a very thin marine layer along the coastline that is really retreated and will continue to retreat through the day today as we do look at strong north northeasterly winds on into the bay area. This is where higher fire danger comes into play yet again we may be relatively calm right now but winds do pick up later on. Most gust today 1520 Miles Per Hour. Mountain top so susceptible to stronger gusts as high as 40 Miles Per Hour. Briefly come down early tomorrow and then thursday looks like the windiest one of at least your work week with winds gusting higher into a 20 to 30 mile per hour range holding on to those 40 mile per hour gusts. At our Higher Elevations friday continues to be breezy temperatures start to cool down though, and even into the weekend which does look much cooler are likely to hold on to a pretty steady breeze. So this is just a windy forecast from start to finish those winds paired with our hot temperatures that we do have right now. Means that we do have red flag warnings in effect in 4 more spots than we did yesterday. Now includes coastal areas on the peninsula. The Santa Cruz Mountains inland east bay in the same spots in the north bay as yesterday as i mentioned winds out there gusting as high as 40 Miles Per Hour, especially for mountaintops daytime highs in San Francisco, another coastal areas little warmer than yesterday you definitely get more sunshine out along the coastline today, 70s and 80s along the bay shore with burlingame and foster city 81 palo alto at 79 today, south bay temperatures a little cooler than yesterdays mid 80s with san jose and santa clara falling to 81 today 70s to 80s for the east bay whitman goodbye to the 90s but just barely in danville walnut creek and concord from your 90 degree highs yesterday to 89 today Oakland Berkeley and richmond in the 70s while 80s to just a couple of low 90s taking on in the north bay. Santa rosa through center fell all in the 80s. So you can see temperatures today will be fairly warm still in fact our warmest of the rest of the forecast. After this things really do start cooling down. A red flag warnings remain through early friday, were still going to be breezy after that but with temperatures falling so much that will help with fire danger reducing it a bit by the weekend, its mid 70s that are warmest inland and 60s and 70s alongside the bay. The anytime, anywhere migraine medicine. 6. 29 right now and we want to take a peek at the weather, yeah john trouble standing by with that good morning john good morning guys its back to red flag warnings and even more them than what we had been seeing the past few days i was talking about yesterday as 2 rounds of advisories. Well weve entered the second round now which encompasses even some coastal areas this time you can see theres really no fog in San Francisco. And thats the way its going to be today a little drier towards the coast and red flag warnings in effect for areas like Half Moon Bay on the peninsula up into the Santa Cruz Mountains as for the inland east bay, almost all of that region lit up in red flag warnings today and then similar to yesterday upper elevations of the north bay now why is this we have continued dry conditions continued warm conditions today and winds and mountaintops gusting as high as 40 Miles Per Hour. We may be relatively calm at the moment, but winds do pick up pace into the afternoon making for a breezy afternoon and evening tonight, commerce or to the morning tomorrow and then its back to higher winds on into tomorrow afternoon. And Even Stronger winds than what were likely going to see this afternoon look at Half Moon Bay 19 mile per hour winds, San Francisco at 18 Miles Per Hour. This is all into thursday here red flag warning still in effect on into friday as we still see breezy conditions to start the weekend. Albeit a nice cool down into the weekend. 50s and 60s for our current temperatures as you are venturing outside san jose and hayward 58 right now, San Francisco at 57 then a few 40s mic stand up in the north bay later today, daytime highs in San Francisco and oakland will rise into the 70s. Well low 80s in san jose. Rob. Thank you john were heading over to the bay bridge toll plaza watching this long lines squeezing into San Francisco right now its a full house finally we have a lot of stopping traffic from the maze its spilling back onto the atv overcrossing. And its going to slow up the incline toward the tunnel so this is the 6. 31 norm heading into San Francisco here at 12 minutes and growing for your drive time a little busy on 92 as well are actually its been busy throughout the morning drive, but its busy youre right now more folks heading to the peninsula, 14 minutes and growing off to one oh one and if youre approach is the nimitz its not bad, but a little sluggish 80 south to just south of 92, youre looking at 27 minutes to make it from san leandro to milpitas back to you. Thanks a lot robin 6. 32 and our top story nearly 7,000 pg e customers around the bay are bracing for another round of possible power shut off threat is high not only for fires but as gary mentioned from power shut off we have a map that shows where p g needs thinking they may be shutting off power. If need be come later on today and those the areas in yellow, this is actually zoomed in look at the north bay which is where we have the highest percentage of shut off here for the bay area potential shut offs again for later today and like last time it is in the Higher Elevations, there of both napa and sonoma counties kron fours will tran is in napa county right now they are expected to have the most customers without power if it happens tonight will. Its more than likely will happen because pg and e they know the weather conditions. They expect the winds to pick up so theyre already telling about 4300 customers in napa county to brace yourself because theres a good chance you will be in the dark. I mean downtown calistoga you can see all this activity this is wonderful because about a week and a half ago this town was evacuated because of the glass fire so things were slowly but surely getting back to normal unfortunately. This is the new norm so take a look at your screen. I want to tell you the numbers this is all a numbers game and basically spans 19 counties but we want to focus about 6 counties right now napa county youre staring at 4300 customers without power and then in sonoma and Solano County about a 1000 customers and Alameda County ranging from about 400 to 700 customers. The goal according to pg and e is to prevent another wave of wildfires. We chose downtown calistoga you guys are more sensitive the most when it comes to fires, you guys dodged a bullet a week and a half ago is this place was evacuated. Scott hamilton joins me now your reaction a lot of peoples. They understand but they were annoyed by what pg and hes doing. Im in 2 minds about whats happening with genie first of all. Weve got to build it. A week and a half ago when the fires were just they just came down on the other side of silverado trail. And we saw fires all through this neighborhood. My daughters got a house here weve got a house here were very thankful. That to all of the firefighters and all of the sacrifices theyve made and lord save our we get how big a deal this is. The other side of me though is there a lot of. Times when does not seem like we need to have. Costly thinking you know is this overreaction ipg 80s so. These are tough times. Tough times what you said is a snapshot of what so many people i have been saying like theyre torn they dont know. I i get it i get that weve got to weve got to do a lot of Different Things because of the fires us. Its a tough one. Thank you so much for stopping by this morning and taking time to talk to us. Pretty much indicative its a tough one in fact you can see the lights on right now downtown calistoga will be fine because its on a michael great system which means that has generators. But if youre west of the napa river and the lights are out and you dont have a generator you will be sitting in the dark pg and e will send out texts to alert customers to give them a heads up that there is a chance your power will be out of the james during ive gotten those texts as well it does not mean its a sure thing it just means. Brace yourself think thankfully, ive got about 4 those text only once has that happened to me back to you yeah prepare and be ready. Thats thats the advice. Thank you and what that says it only took one for me to go by the little generator think thats like i dont want this again. If you want to be in the know get the kron on app for the kron 4 app they both have great interactive maps and forecast radar on the weather. Wildfires Power Outages. All kinds of interactive stuff and push alerts so that you with the news you need is right there at your fingertips, yeah. All right 6. 36 a huge leap for San Francisco in its handling of covid19 officials have deemed nonessential can now reopen for the First Time Since march and thats not all kron fours terisa stasio explains. This is super exciting news. Its a little sooner than than we had anticipated Lorrie Thomas is the executive director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association and the owner to restaurants in San Francisco, including rosies cafe and cal hollow the news that San Francisco is continuing to move forward re opening businesses during the pandemic she says is really remarkable it and well get the option for a lot of restaurants that havent found that theyve been able to reopen to now reopening 50 isnt going to make us make money by any means but its going gradually let people decide to come back online and breaking it down to specifics the change in yellow allows restaurants, churches and museums and gyms to expand their indoor capacity to 50 really great news for Small Businesses in San Francisco, not only that they can open up that 25 capacity. It really sends a strong message to the residents of San Francisco. That its safe to work out indoors and while we were open at 10 most recently there were no spikes in any covid hot spots or anything like that later the fitness. Dave character is the coowner of mx 3 fitness in San Francisco to see that people are slowly thinking about going back indoors or slowly saying yeah i think i feel better about that i feel better about that the science is saying that you know here in San Francisco that. You know you can do it safely we can be indoor safely whether it be in a restaurant or whether im a fitness studio. So it is it is sending us in the right direction in addition to traditional gyms such as daves the new order allows for climbing gyms to reopen at 25 capacity. Thomas says it is exciting to move forward and she says she and others are relieved to welcome more people to the city but she and others do have a request or gate is open right where were welcoming people back in. But i just asked that everybody really be sensitive to the fact that we do have some you know strict guidelines. We want everybody to wear masks whenever a Service Staff approaches your table theresa kron 4 news. 6. 38 and a big story more than 1000 inmates at San Quentin State Prison could be transferred or even really see a california appellate Court Ordered the prison reduce its inmate population by half. And according to Court Records 75 of the inmates at san quentin currently have covid19. The prison has to release or transfer inmates to other facilities so that they can allow for social distancing. The prison must also review its expedited release program one idea is to release inmates over the age of 60 who have served at least 25 years of their sentence. Now this could include those sentenced to life or 3 strikes offenders. Judges say the move would allow the prison to place inmates in a single cell and limit the spread of the virus Kate Hatfield with the Justice Collaborative project says the transferring inmates his house and quickly became a hot spot in the first place so they have to do this very carefully. Said you know, hey this came from transfers so you cant do this didnt say this but you cant do this haphazard way you know youre aware now that what the transfer sent don t need to do this carefully last and in and do it in the right way into the right facilities and in fact more people in california prisons have died as a result of covid19 then have been executed. So fact being incarcerated right now in california is turning into a death sentence for many people. And so far there been more than 2200 cases and 28 inmate deaths from the virus at san quentin with nearly 300 prison workers also becoming infected and since march the department of corrections has released more than 21,000 inmates across the state. Were also tracking the coronavirus numbers here for california and the bay area and on your screen you can see this statewide we have more than 884,000 confirmed cases and the death toll now has surpassed for the first time 17,000 for the bay area more than a 110 confirmed cases with more than 1600 people dying from covid19. In the north a Sonoma County is expanding Free Covid Testing to residents said theyre opening popup testing sites. This is one yesterday at andys unity park in the moreland neighborhood. One of the largest a latino neighborhoods and they have a high number of coronavirus cases. But you know community for the most part there are social worker isnt so they are exposed they come home a lot of families especially in southwest center is a live in multifamily or multi generational household and so the exposure is just a lot greater. The testing sites are going to be held there pop ups that means different locations and you can find the full schedule and locations on our website at kron 4 dot com. Well happening today, House Speaker nancy pelosi and treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin are scheduled to continue negotiating the next covid19 stimulus bill. This is after of course pelosis 48 hour deadline to reach a deal has come and gone, but theyre still working at it. Senate majority leader mitch mcconnell, however is reportedly telling fellow gop senators that hes advised the white house to not strike a deal with pelosi. Democrats are hoping that republicans will sign on to a more than 2 trillion dollar proposal President Trump also urging his own party to go big on a plan. However, a number of republicans say they cannot sign on to a plan that spends that much money. And on the kron 4 morning news, california loosens covid guidelines for stadiums and theme parks and other venues but not for levis why are they getting to reopen. And youre look outside this morning at sfo shows some pretty Clear Conditions much less fog at the coast and a slightly cooler day in fact for inland areas. More of us down into the 80s inland and 70s right along the bay. And if you plan on heading into San Francisco right now prepare yourself for a busy and slow commute leading up to the bay bridge toll plaza it is packed out there look at that heavy traffic from the bottom of the maze, a lots of break tapping going on 12 minutes into San Francisco will check more bridges for you coming up. This afternoon. Windy tomorrow afternoon windy again in fact even windier towards thursday afternoon for many areas continued winds into friday as well, this means more and more red flag warnings on them out its our second round of them in fact for the north bay similar locations as to what we saw the past couple of days.
