7 is giving us that shot in san jose. so when the sun comes up. >>we've got you covered, yeah and masks masks masks covering you today because the bad air quality john what expect. yeah i agree we need those mass today you've been wearing in many ways, but today we're going to have significant ash falling from the sky even if you can smell the smoke. so the mask will be very helpful and yes as we make our way through the next hour or so we'll see eventually what you those skies eventually do take what we are looking at is going to be a darker a smoky day much like yesterday smoke is a little bit lower in the horizon than yesterday it's gradually sunk been very slow in doing so though so for some parts of san francisco. you're not quite smelling it yet. >>as that marine layer was still president overnight. even in areas with slightly better air quality you still need that mask because we do have ash if you had your car outside overnight you're seeing it having settled on your car and as you step out you want to be breathing that in so you may not smell it, but you do need to have those masks on to protect yourself from that impact 50's and 60's are current temperatures this morning. it is cool it stayed cool yesterday part of that was due to the dense layer smoke overhead blocked out the sun felt like it should be dawn or dusk rather it was the middle of the day and with calm winds overnight smoke didn't have anywhere to go so it's still sitting right above us if not down at the surface for inland areas where air quality is already at its worst. it was transported our way from the north as we saw strong winds overnight the night before last last night winds come down so now it's here to stay and will stay with us like the through this forecast even as we do see fog pushing into our inland areas. you're going to have that fog with some smoke in bed in it so marine layer or not we are going to have poor air quality as we round out this week and start the weekend today's daytime highs barely the 80's for just a couple of inland spots. most of us really are going to hold on to the 60's and 70's. that's your forecast robin i'll send it over to you all right, thank you john checking in on the traffic it's much heavier now. >>heading into san francisco. they turned the meteor lights on at the bay bridge toll plaza and that sort of kicked off our back up that's why it's so slow. we don't have any problems right now with the lights are on their cycling slowly and it's stacked up from the maze will not only is it slow from the maze but it's actually backing up onto all connectors the back of that you see here it goes to 5 8424 and the east shore freeway coming out of berkeley, so be prepared for that some minor crowding 5.80 west as you leave castro valley merging onto to 38 and then after that a great connection over to the nimitz freeway darya james all right, thanks a lot robin and let's get out there and continue our team coverage and see what conditions are like will begin first with kron four's will tran he's arise on treasure island this morning looking back at the city morning. well. >>james i think i might have the best vantage point come sunrise, we'll just have to wait and see right now there's nothing to really show you the city is often the distance but it is dark. >>hazy conditions. john was talking about it might not look like what we saw yesterday so we can't get enough of it let's get right to the pictures and the video from yesterday. i can see some stories feeling vindicated like yes, we are right to sell halloween night whom so early because it looked like halloween all over the bay area people saw it when they woke up in the morning that wait a minute why is it or why my waking up on mars when it just turned this area to orange to reddish hue color. hopefully won't be the same if you're wondering about the smoky conditions. i don't smell smoke, i don't see the embers flying around at my particular location yes i see it biddy embers from time to time but nothing like what we saw yesterday and it's a little bit chilly. i am happy to say that especially with the heat wave that we saw just last weekend so bring it on as far as the chilly conditions. but the smoky conditions not so bad and changed area. i don't know about you, but my sleep schedule as off it's already hard to work the morning shift, but it felt like night all day long i just wanted to sleep stayed it's nice that it was in hot so. >>i this i feel like i'm in soup. i wasn't even set there's too much ash around will you went running yesterday which i find can't believe you did that but i i had to go get a haircut and just getting in and out of my car you get in your car to slam the door all the ash kind of swirling around us is that was in is that the. >>is wow you're going show you real quick thing though i have a firefighter friend and there was ash all over my car so he swears you better watch that ash off it can get possibly wet and it sits on your pain. he says it will ruin your pain series, it's still dry now. >>wash it good tip. thank you know is different than dirt and you know john wright once a year he washes his car with sights sounds like we do thank very much well. all right, we'll just one element of our team coverage we want to go now to the north bay we've got kron four's stairs tense out there for i like the way we'll put it when he says the tough times are calling in pumpkin skies yesterday it's better selves like a latte it sounds like a little bit a bit more positive actually government is pumping life after work as write after breathing in all that air and i can't believe he said he went on a run i got off of work yesterday and i grow up in a ball state on my couch for hours. >>because it just felt so disorienting and we're going to see if that will be a case this morning again as you can see the light behind me it's pretty foggy here in sausalito reporting live for you. >>where the air quality in her in county is definitely suffering its unhealthy you can see a nap there there's purple there's red there's a little bit of yellow sprinkled in there. the purple is hazardous. the red is unhealthy so definitely going to be wearing a mask, but it's very deceiving because you feel like the air is it's crisp it doesn't smell smoke be it's a little foggy things we're used to but it definitely is poor air quality that yesterday there was no if ands or buts about it you can see it it could was just so much more real bad and it was definitely carry out it was the word of the day as our executive producer said is the apocalyptic and it looked like there was sepia filter over your eyes so it was definitely sure that you take that precaution, you stay indoors as much as possible because as i said it can be quite this evening as you head out this morning we're going to be live for you. all morning all my mates had deported era, wherever it's really bad show you and tell you what it's like for now it's dark it's chris and it's deceiving so make sure you are heading out the door right now you stay protected have amassed orrin for sure now send it back to you guys in the newsroom and just seeing the bus just go by sarah minds me because what happened yesterday was people you need to drive. >>really carefully. it's dark you're looking around you're distracted. that was a bad combination so be safe when you drive out there >>and sir also brought up a good point about you know looks can be deceiving it looked cool. but it has a very real effect an impact on people, respiratory systems and if you're prone to having a bouts of allergies where it's tough to breathe, you know you want to probably stay indoors and do what you can to to alleviate that throughout the day. yeah let's go to rain rv who's got allergies in alameda county this morning doing the best she can right now are you okay. >>you know a day of the night, thanks for checking in on the other doing the best i can on here have been able to breathe through my nose since yesterday so hopefully we'll get a break in the next few days but the most to say anything about the east bay across the area is the air right go ahead and zoom in so you guys can take a look and see what i'm seeing here on this roof top the love. the air looks really but that's really deceiving because it's not there are loads. particles floating around in the air out here this morning in fact all across the areas of hayward cast a rally, san leandro fremont the air quality is over a 100 soup or unhealthy. specially like you mentioned james, if it's a difficult for you to breathe, look at this red and orange everywhere looks like it's even worse, then it was yesterday out here in terms of air quality this morning it's not expected to get any better because you guys are talking about that air and the smoke still city over the east bay now all my drive through i'll alameda county this morning. i could see some areas on here that were covered it would appear to be fog or smog in like a mixture of smoke and bold so you could also see that as you wake up early this morning. in addition to all of that. yeah, there are ways all that you can protect yourself because look at what we saw yesterday lau lie. >>red skies ash falling and i know you guys mentioned that we're going to see more of that today. but it's important to reduce your. >>activities outdoors if you can know daria you suggested, here a fire that could be a great thing for people as if you have a mask and a really heavy duty star to wed like what i have all right now today's the day to wear it and put it on james and darya. >>i mean those air cleaners are expensive to i got one hamad out for my brother and i understand they're kind of selling out anyway you might want to try like amazon or something in reyna your advice was good too so not only have the mask when you go out but stay inside keep the windows closed. that's the best way to keep the bad air out well and rain and one of the thing to you i know you are having some respiratory issues with the allergies and stuff. >>and i get seasonal allergies to and although it didn't affect me so much that way i notice my eyes i couldn't go very long outside without having to do a lot of blank because all those little bits of ash we're getting in my eyes and it was irritating me in that way on a few experience, the same thing. >>well i mean it she eyes and you know it's really hard, you know days where you where you know the eyelashes like as lady was so i was trying not to take off my eyelashes but sometimes you just got to scratch, you know, i help for community all >>all right good anyway. yeah. time now is never mind we got a lot more on our website to including a lot of the pictures that you sent in yesterday and a lot of by the he showed us the camera on the phone is insane and it's all aren't just kept scrolling which i'm sure it is like on your phone too. and that's just a quick reminder if we have another morning like that and you didn't get a chance for even if you did send us a picture yesterday sent us another one because we'd like to document what today's going to be like all around the bay too as we all wake up and get on with our day 6.12 right now we're going to see some sun and about a half hour so stick with us. the reason. >>we're not is of course because of the fires and you can see they're still raging all around the west coast. we're going to tell you where the out of state help is coming from and the smoking skies cause delays at sfo and some confusion for travelers landing at what time in the dark. and in specifically to update on the creek fire yeah, those fires putting up a lot of smoke still darya and that smoke is still going to be with us today, what color those skies take all that remains to be seen, but we'll find out within ♪ ♪ try my $4 mini munchies with marinara or ranch. back at jack in the box. ♪ try my $4 mini munchies with marinara or ranch. back at jack in the box. >>6.15 right now and where we looking okay, i can still tell this as well that makes making yes, but if you're used to driving in the light we're going to see about that 6.15 still dark. >>that's the big question. yeah that is going to the question and we're talking to john earlier he says a lot of the conditions we saw yesterday seem to be repeated this morning. so i don't know what you think thought we'd see it again thought it was a one-day deal right well know yesterday's brilliant orange was. >>definitely something i've never seen before and i think for most of us that was the case. >>today i think is going to take a bit of a different color, but it's still going to be eerie and it's still going to be darker than usual. we will see sunrise within the hour. so definitely keep your eyes peeled for what we're about to see another look at the walnut creek am definitely shows a noticeable hayes so we still have the smoke sitting right above the bay, although that smoky layers a little lower than it was yesterday and smoke is going to continue to sink gradually in the days to come worsening in worsening air quality even though you might not smell smoke in your area there is ash fall and you don't want to be breathing that in so you want to have the mask on wherever you are across the bay. the high-pressure ridge that brought us the northern winds that pushed in the smoke is weakening now we have another high pressure ridge that's building in can result in sinking air still winds in just the slightest of an onshore breeze. what does all this mean for us well with calm winds. you don't have the smoke getting pushed out it is still sitting there right overhead really all across the state that includes us here in the bay area. and it's only going to gradually seeing through the course of this forecast meaning we're likely to have smoke and haze well through the upcoming weekend. that's kept temperatures down yesterday most of us were in the 60's to 70's and today, the vast majority of us are going to keep those cooler temperatures than what we had earlier this week palo alto and mountain view at 74 for your highs today, south bay temperatures also low to mid 70's for the most part. i do anticipate a couple of 80 sprinkle then they're likely not a lot though most of us are going to stay on the cooler side yet again. a lot of that depends on if we do get bits of sunshine, shining between this dense layer of smoke that we do have blocking out most of the sun which is gonna hurt for most of the day. tomorrow temperatures remain similar for most of the bay area we're going to hold on to the grey and likely a few orange colors in there too on through the start of the weekend gradual improvements through this forecast it's going to take time to get the smoke filtered out as we really don't have a big weather maker coming through that's going to do that for us things will gradually improve temperatures during this time will remain cooler than we have been that's your forecast we've got robin in the traffic center. good to see robin how are the roads get see to john and i appreciate those cooler temperatures it feels much much better than triple digits, we're checking out the traffic out there and the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza just continues to grow. >>and this is what about any major problems no crashes no stalls but the metering lights or cycling slowly and that has traffic backed up all the way through the maze check this out it's on 5.80 from 24 its emerging on to the east shore freeway you're backed up through berkeley there toward university avenue. so all of your approaches are quite tight over to 92 of the san mateo bridge westbound a busy year now that we're in the 6 o'clock hour but no big problems still 13 minutes off to one oh one. i'll give you one more we see some busy traffic here too at the richmond sandra fell bridge. no big problems is going to be an easy trip across the span, a nice connection into the north bay. so if you get out there right now it's only 8 minutes from the tolls off to one o one james all right, thank you very much robin. >>let's go to fresno county now where the creek fire is burned more than a 166,000 acres right now still threatening more than 5,000 structures. we've got maderas bab with the very latest now from fresno. >>the wind is pushing the smoke up and out of the way but that also increased fire behavior. and when it's fired. >>downed power lines in hot spots flaring up on the side of one 68 has around a 1000 firefighters stand their ground against a fast-moving flames and it's just devastating al gonzales has a place up near shaver everybody's just hurting right now is this. >>it's just just it's just this fresno fire crew along with 80 other firefighters protecting littlefield road where a lot of homes are threatened. so we still have the engines plugged into the areas the communities, the subdivisions weather. there's a lot residents and homes and we're still protecting those homes just a couple miles south of the neighborhoods, firefighters are currently protecting this is an area where the creek fire has already blaze through and this is exactly what they're trying to prevent the devastation and destruction left behind their success dependent on the winds. >>it's still a very dynamic environment and there is still a lot of hot spots around. >>well that wasn't theirs bap reporting. cal fire has confirmed that more than 360 structures has burned in that fire. and the creek fire still 0% contained this morning. well the creek fire burning there in fresno county not close to i should say as i mentioned a 167,000 acre 0% contained. so far we're looking you know conditions there still on the dire side daria but. hope that maybe in the next week they can get some advantage here on the containment. yeah we're now and then there's the bear fire. >>that killed 3 people and hurt several others, this is the one in butte county. spread very quickly there. it part of the north complex fires that started on august 17th. and these fires have burned more than 250,000 acres. many homes near the berry creek area, worst destroyed. last night's hot spots or no line ordering i'm not no longer threatening portions of north of the lake so that's the good news, but again that fire has now killed 3 people. the latest containment numbers from the fires around the bay the lnu lightning complex fire in the north bay. that's 93% contained, gosh they look at the video of this destruction, you know that we're still dealing with 362,000 acres burned in that one. >>the scu complex fire which has burned close to 400,000 acres is 96% contained czu in san mateo santa cruz counties. have burned 86,000 acres plus 83% contained. and the woodward fire 95% contained that's the point reyes national seashore in warren county. it's burned almost 5,000 acres. meantime firefighters are needing help you know and there are other states that have fires raging as well so it's been difficult to get the help we need california cal oh, says that even a few weeks ago we couldn't get all of the out of state fire engines that we requested through federal programs and now california is competing with other west coast states dealing with massive fires and remember this is just the beginning of the fire season. there are crews from idaho, new mexico, texas and utah all helping us right now state leaders have asked for more help from as far away as quebec, canada. >>well coming up on the kron 4 morning news, a bombshell recording reveals president trump downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus we'll tell you why he >>and we're back time now 6.25 president trump said president trump admits he wasn't honest about the threat of covid-19 earlier this year. according to recordings by journalist bob woodward, the president knew of the virus back in february knew how deadly it was and that was deadlier than the flu and could spread much faster than the flu. that could potentially kill millions of americans take a listen though to why he said he didn't tell that to the american public. >>just breathe the air that so fast. >>and so that's a very tricky one that's a very delicate one. it's also more deadly than your. you know you're even your strenuous flus i wanted to always play it down i still like playing it down because i don't want to create a panic. >>and there you hear him explain why he intentionally downplayed the severity of the virus to the american public. he says he didn't want to drive the world into a frenzy. president trump's democratic opponent joe biden reacting on twitter writing in part quote, if donald trump had acted just 2 weeks earlier, 54,000 lives could have been spared in march and april alone. >>well we are going to see a continued impact from smoke across the bay weather skies or orange or just great they are going to be darker. usually seen and it's going to be a little cooler than we've got use >>welcome back 6.29 and the big story is the weather in the air quality the skies and if they'll stay black will we ever see. >>daytime and well this is so 6 30 years at 6.45 in about 15 minutes it yeah, but that look like we're 15 minutes away from sunrise looking it still looks really dark yeah and that's what john was i thought he was going out on a limb with this prediction. but he's like no, i'm pretty sure it could very well be as a carbon copy what we had yesterday we'll see in any event we got crews spread all around the bay area this morning to keep you covered on what it's like outside the matter where you are and you can see on your screen, let's start with a quick little update from each of them beginning with kron four's will tran he will. >>james i'm on treasure island and the bay bridge is over my right shoulder and it is swallowed up by smoke and i would imagine a little bit of fog but based on what we saw yesterday, let's go ahead and call it smoke, it is hazy, there's a blanket that is sitting on top of san francisco right now we should know the moment of truth in about 15 minutes from now. it is a little bit chilly little bit windy at times. but we are still very much in darkness and being in the morning reporter i can sense when it starts to get light usually gets light around this time even though we're not officially into sunrise yet. it is still quite dark. we will know the moment of truth in 15 minutes from now, but i got to give you some advice bring a mask if you need it, i don't need it just yet and definitely bundle up because it's a little bit cold right now on treasure island for conditions in the north bay. let me send it over to my colleague sarah stinson sarah. >>it will need to get a mask on because air quality is very poor across the bay area where i'm at live right now in burton county specifically in sausalito you can see it's very foggy and smokey i took off my mask for a second to see what the air quality was like and it does in fact small smoky so i look like it looks like it could be another one of those days where we have orange haze. we have that area look so hopefully not but that's why we're live out here standing by to see if that's going to be the case but what we do know is right now air quality is very poor so make sure you put a mask on and stay indoors as much as possible. i'm here in the north bay, let's go check in with fellow reporter reyna harvey in the east bay. >>and unfortunately here in the east bay another day sealed with bad air quality as you look at the sky right now. you see nothing but gray skies and we are wondering if that great that you see they smoke gathered of above us so again. if you are going to be outdoors suggest you don't spend too much time outdoors wear a mask and make sure you're being mindful of your health over the next few days as air conditions continue to stay in the red. right now we're going over to yulee who's in the south bay with more coverage over there. >>and thank you ray now so i'm here in san jose on a hilltop getting a view of which on a clear day you would see a glimpse of downtown san jose. but you can see that they hayes is a very big. not so orange right now, i know the senate still coming up. but it does look very muddy, so you could kind of tell like quality in the air is still going to be purdy bad out here on the flip side, though though there it's not does it smell like a campfire out here at least air actually feels a little fresh. it at least it smells that all day but we know because of so much ash in the air that it's not very healthy for you to breathe in so you definitely still want to use mask if you're going to take a walk out here, but you can see the haze is still very thick. as the sun continues to come up. we'll see if it gets a little bit more orange, but it is looking very muddy. out here in san jose back to you guys in the ok well maybe get john looks like you're. >>calling it right on not as orange, but still plenty dark. so i can't believe me i know think yesterday would be the only one but smoking still there guys, yeah and robin again with a warning for drivers because it is really disorienting absolutely and i saw a lot of folks miss behaving yesterday driving taking pictures in addition to through the court i took plea i tell you not to take pictures just one at a time maybe pull over then take the picture because you know yesterday everybody was doing it you wanted to get that shot of the orange skies. today we're likely to see an orange issue to it either that or a grayish one still remains to be seen what exactly those skies will look at one thing that's guaranteed it will continue to be smoky as that smoky layer still sits in place overhead. >>you can see the smoke mixed with fog in san francisco in this view right here and yes as rain annually were both mentioning even though the air doesn't smell bad necessarily we still do have air quality impacts was so much smoke overhead there's been dashed all overnight, you can see that on your car this morning. and you don't want to be breathing that in without a mask on so don't let the fresh feeling of the air to see view we still definitely do have some poor conditions. now why exactly is it so smoky when in our backyard or fire activity has diminished. well the smoke was pushed in 2 nights ago by strong northerly winds that brought it from active fires in northern california. as that smoke settled into the bay area we saw initially hazy conditions as haze and smoke accumulated any sort of light that passed through that smoke yesterday was refracted the blue light all bounced back up into the sky so the only thing that ended up passing through under that hazy layer was that orange glow we saw yesterday today we still have that haze so there will likely be some orange to the sky for most of us. although i'm anticipating with the smoke sitting a little bit lower more of a grayish color to it today, 50's and 60's for your current temperatures berkeley and san francisco 58 oakland 63, currently while napa right at 60 degrees. winds are calm that did not push the smoke anywhere last night so it's still sitting right there above us as it will through the day today. today's daytime highs will be similar to yesterday's cooler than what we have been seeing most of us in the 60's and the 70's. back over to you robin all right, thank you john let's check in on the traffic it's building up out there but i still don't have any major hot spots to report right now. >>but we have a foggy spot and that's the golden gate bridge. so if you have to use one oh one this morning keep in mind that chp has issued a special dense fog advisory once again just like yesterday coming across the golden gate so 19 minutes novato to san francisco. here at the bay bridge. this is our biggest back up and not only is it slow at the bay bridge toll plaza but check this out this is the maze traffic tracker picking up on all that heavy traffic from 5.80 from the east shore freeway and as we zoom in on to the east shore freeway that backup is all the way through berkeley and into albany towards buchanan so be ready for that slow down just a little sluggish on 5.80 westbound from santa rita up to the dublin interchange after that it's a great ride on the doubling graydon on and to castro valley area. >>thanks a lot less head outside again and take a peek at what it was like at sfo in the smoke yesterday and. >>darkness in the daytime. it was really disorienting for the people who are flying in and a little bit for the pilots commercial airline pilot laura and settler explain the conditions in flying in this is kind of like fall flying in fog. >>we have low visibility conditions like smoke or fog which is our instruments as guidance for navigation and stage situational awareness. >>what more can happen in 2020. >>i i am afraid to you know before this i was like ok power outages heat wildfires distance look at now. the end of times and john darkness said 24 7 was just weird. so travelers were you coming in from all over the country we talk to some coming in from denver, we talk some coming from even southern california where also you know they're experiencing smoky skies but i guess it's not like down in san diego, it's not quite as dark as this. >>all right well, the orange reddish sky was eerily mesmerizing for as we just talked about drivers, you know in robin was saying don't try and take pictures or roll video while you're driving the chp was out trying to make sure people kept their eyes straight ahead kept going where you're going in where you got there thats when you pull over you take a picture because otherwise you know you could cause an accident and nobody wants that. >>look ahead of us can sense and that will help you prevent a collision or some catastrophic thing that you do not want to happen which is like driving in the rain flowed out. >>yeah and in conditions like that the chp says you need to follow the same rules of the road as you do when you're driving at night which means headlights on before you get on the road also make sure that your windshield or clear of any ash anything that might. obstruct your view and especially if you've got oncoming headlights you want anything on your windshield that might potentially cause a of used to driving to work in the dark to its target 00:04am, in the morning. so when i was leaving a 1030 11:00am it wasn't like it was where but not that we're as good as a normal person do. >>you know we drive sunday like yeah and normal in every way now is pretty weird and i'll call the health concerns to on top of it. i mean there's a lot of different aspects to the smoky skies story. >>air purifiers we've talked about that this morning they become a hot issue a hot item. but also hard to find too for some because there's a big demand now kron four's gayle on takes a closer look. >>as smoky and hazy conditions prevail over the bay area people are heading into hardware stores to buy air purifiers only to find them sold out we had an air purifier week ago, we sold that and we don't anticipate getting any more him we stopped by hayward hardware wednesday afternoon jim leader is the owner he shows us air purifiers are not the only item selling out most of the quantities or 0 and. >>for a lot of items they're negative 10 day of 20 upwards of negative 200 for popular items that we used to be able to get pretty quickly and pretty regularly the n 95 masks meant to filter out 95% of airborne particles. >>have been off the shelves since the pandemic. >>there you go into the military or they're going to hospitals for vendors like us they're not in the warehouse, nor we do expect them to be a record number of acres burning across the state drift smoke is not going away anytime soon making it challenging for small business owners like leader to keep up with demand hayward hardware is down to the last load of mass. >>environmental health experts say if you must be outside you should wear one which has been the new normal anyway, but it's best to stay indoors with the windows closed really people should not be exercising. >>when the air quality is bad because n. that increases that dose of the pollutant john bombs is a professor at u c berkeley school of public health. >>he says the smoke will be challenging for people with preexisting heart and lung disease. >>and to be ready for more bad air days better call on from wildfires which are driven by climate change so. >>anybody need convincing that climate change is real. it should be it. >>well it may be challenging to find air purifiers and portable air conditioners in stores. online might be the best way to go in pleasanton gayle ong kron 4 news. >>no that's what everyone's going to be looking for today, some sort of thing to relieve them from the poor air as we get more and more light now you can see the foggy conditions makes with smoke at the golden gate bridge. definitely not an orange glow like we saw yesterday. the colors today like to be great day on the lake! it is. lunch is cookin'! and i saved a bunch of money on my boat insurance with geico. fellas, can it get any better than this? whoa! my old hairstyle grew back. so did mine. [80's music] what? i was an 80's kid. it only gets better when you switch and save with geico. >>and >>we're back 6.45 is the time, here's a quick live look outside. and we have our camera here along the embarcadero in san francisco looking out at the bay bridge which you can't see very well a mix of fog and smoke in the area obscuring the view but one thing you'll notice is that the. the skies this morning aren't nears orange and white were yes and not like it's dark, it's gray we're kind of used to that benefit smoker fits fog, gray, i get yeah i don't think that's going to be a softening you called it right and it's odd for me to say, but i'm really relieved, it's just normal smoke color in the you can feel normal about the gray that's pretty common in the bay area even if the reason for the grays a little different than what we usually see. >>which is just dense fog or low clouds we do have some fog this morning but most of what we're seeing that's blocking out the sunlight and making for this great is in fact smoke this time around but yes, a lot more familiar than the martian landscape we had yesterday walnut creek the road here looking at some great conditions, definitely some haze out there towards our inland areas. and air quality is an issue today, even if you're not picking up on the smoke smelling it per se there is ash fall that is falling on your car last night so ash actively in the air you want to be breathing that and we've been wearing masks anyways. this is the day to not forget that mask as you step outside. we had the windiest of conditions just a couple of days ago, you remember those strong winds that pushed in from the north up fire danger for a few days and did in fact result in rapid spreading fire to our north. all that smoke was transported all right our direction now winds have calmed down so where's that smoking to go. well it's just gradually going to sink now and as those hazy conditions saying ken we're likely to see gray through the day today yesterday as he sat right above us we had an opportunity for any sort of blue light to be reflected up above it and anything that passed through yesterday was just that red to orange glow that we had making for the weird eerie skies that we had for wednesday today going to be area in its own right just in a different way as we hang on to the hays we hang on to the smoke and likely some pretty dark skies to just the lightest of an onshore flow will keep fog pushing right in along the bay itself not going to be as foggy situation that most of our inland valleys see anything that you see is just going to be a smoke impact. there's your definite calm winds even at the golden gate bridge, pretty calm right now light winds through vacaville and fairfield they're usually windy spots not really receiving much wind this morning so sinking air sinking smoke and poor air quality that's the way it's going to look as we round out this week. 50's and 60's for your highs in san francisco and elsewhere right along the coastline and then for most of our bayside areas today it's only going to be 60's and 70's mind you we were triple digits just days ago in many of our bayside cities like the south bay where china's went from the mid 100's in san jose to now just the mid 70's today as for the east bay most of us will also be in the 70's. i still do have a couple of 80's on the map as i do believe some of our for this inland areas could see temperatures bump up just that much it's not going to rise much more than 80 degrees for most areas. santa rosa down through center fell holding on to low 70's which is way cooler than your triple digits work. now tomorrow not going to change much as far as temperatures go, we're still likely to see all that haze hanging out all the way through the weekend. the thing about this forecast is there's no big weather maker that's going to push through and filter out all that smoke it's going to be gradual improvements so it's going to be a slow go as we make our way through the next 7 days. but you do eventually see more and more sunshine peeking through the clouds next few days. i wouldn't plan a whole lot outside if anything if you can handle that stay inside and stay safe. that's your forecast robin is waiting in the wings over in the traffic center how is traffic right now it's looking pretty good john we do have some slow spots but nothing that's just awful out there so. >>let's check in on you want to take a look at traffic into and out of walnut creek right now we see the tail lights you see the headlightu so it's a little busy, but no big problems, i'm scanning conquered pleasant hill wannacry danville and i don't see any of the trouble spots so 12 minutes here from put a call out to danville that's really good. here's are big back up and it's out the bay bridge toll plaza 80 west. it's been lingering for about an hour now you are stacked up here at the pay gates through the maze all approaches are quite slow. but still under 15 minutes to make it into san francisco and here's a look at that line you can see the traffic spilling back through 5.80 through the east shore freeway on to the east shore through emeryville in berkeley and albany, so 17 minutes here from crockett down to the maze as he joined in with that traffic and minor crowding on highway 4 westbound 20 minutes antioch to concord but decent on 5.80 out of livermore and one oh one out of morgan hill chase. >>all right robert thank you very much 6.49 back to some headlines now in new this morning, the owner of the salon in san francisco is closing her doors after the controversial hair appointment with house speaker nancy pelosi. and again we have video of that. appointment that went lot of negative attention as a result and is now afraid to go back to her salon she says that she's closing it down the salon owner denies that she set up pelosi. in san francisco, 4 people and a cat are without a home after apartment fire. firefighters are now saying the 2 buildings near waller and ashbury streets were involved the cause still under investigation nobody hurt, a few folks displaced now and that cat. now to the north bay 2 men have been arrested in connection to a series of burglaries and vehicle thefts his is for all to and mario. arvizu ramirez was arrested wednesday morning authorities say the man had several stolen power tools catalytic converters and a stolen truck. the 2 have criminal histories in sonoma county and they were both previously arrested in windsor for burglary. >>time now 6.51 and baseball was weird everything was where although the a's got a walk-off win so who cares if the skies were black and orange wrong color for them. but it was great the game against the astros at the coliseum let's start the 7th inning tommy la stella gets a hit to left field and that lets 2 runners score ties up the game and then the tie breaker that came in the 9th inning there were 2 runners on for ramon now. and he gets a hit down left center field. nobody can catch it nobody's there a's win with a walk-off 3 to 2 and they play one more time. this afternoon at 1240 the question is will it look like 12:40am or or or pm you know it looked like midnight yesterday across the bay, the giants are playing under the correct colors, and black playing the mariners and oracle park. and it was a blowout win for the giants bat. we're that's we're hot. giants swept the mariners 10 to one. final score. so the giants have won now 5 in a row. and they head down to san diego dre's tonight and football is back tonight. the chiefs and the texans kick off the season james going to excited to watch oh. yes and the niners on sunday to at home. >>and some good news for the team linebacker fred warner. off the covid-19 list, so he's cleared to play niners. haven't said if he had covid or not but he will step right back into his starting role on defense he's been a star for the niners since he was drafted what 2 years ago now starting every single game of his career so far and he's not going to break that streak head coach kyle shanahan knows warner's return is a big one for the team. friends back is good to go. i can't talk about too much of his week away but i mean for has been as reliable the player that we've had this great to get him back today we are obviously pretty nervous about that. but he's good to go and we're very grateful is going to be here. yeah, the niners are going to be facing off against the arizona cardinals again that's this sunday afternoon at levi stadium. they're really going to be watching their holiday they were able practice yesterday. >>because shanahan said it looked worse than really what's ok and now the question is when we get to sarah or given today we're going to get in on sunday, here's a live look at sfo hazy smog the smoking that's kind of wh we're living in uncertain times, but as californians we'll get through this together. if your income has been reduced or you've lost your job or your health insurance, covered california is here. we can help you find the health insurance you need to protect you back now that the sun is coming up we get a better idea of what skies are going to look like today definitely not as orange as we were yesterday but the grey is still around as we see a mix of fog and then haze hanging out overhead your view from half moon bay this morning little less mars looking than it was yesterday. 50's and 60's for current temperatures, it is a cool start to what will be another cool afternoon ahead of us. in fact much cooler right now for livermore and fairfield them at the same point yesterday. calm winds overnight means that smoke that we had over had had nowhere to go in fact just sinking lower and lower in the horizon. that's we're going to hang on to the cool and smoky conditions for yet another day 60's for highs in oakland and san francisco. well, san jose in the mid 70's. james all right, thank you john. >>coming up in the next hour another day of hazy orange eerie skies. as we're looking back on looks those though this morning shaping up to be just the normal great muddy skies with >>you're watching kron 4 morning news at 7. >>morning and thanks for joining us the sun is supposed to be wholesome and i'm james fletcher and it is up and one thing you'll notice immediately is that we're not dealing with that orange glow in the sky like we saw yesterday still just as foggy and smoky and hazy. just the colors different this morning, our parish yesterday, yeah, okay where we saw yes so i can is where the world was on fire it's games those were freaking shots. >>and john as soon as he told us that we were going to see the sun again which he was right and we're not. he was right again and that its grain so we're not seeing a repeat of yesterday's weird wacky. weather now, but we've got our team coverage around the bay, the
