Thats more than double what it was this morning. When the most impacted communities in Sonoma County is Healdsburg Kron fours dan kerman reports about the challenges fire crews are facing there. Right now the fire is progressing from mill creek to the Sweetwater Springs road area that south southeast. Firefighters trying to get a handle on things before those Early Morning hours when the fire has been known to take off weve been through this before i 2017 and the tubbs fire. So i wasnt looking for depth to do this again. The hillsides in healdsburg have been filled with smoke 4 days. But more than just smoke for those that live here and propane tanks exploding, i can see house is burning this is whats left of some of the homes on Wallace Creek road. And not just here another home that was destroyed was in West Dry Creek and that had been in jason pasa lock was family for decades. My back i probably 80 years ago said just a family a family retreat now he worries about his winery and dry creek and the family home on mill creek road. Ive been here for a few days and few nights so far here to the outlook look for hot spots, the winds are if you have the winds or anything like that helps fire the kincade fire in paradise fire. And we would be here firefighters have taken to the air to fight the blaze that have been crisscrossing the area on the ground making pit stops to fill up with water. The goal right now is to keep the fire from progressing to the south and southeast, this is one of the last days were going to get kind that north northwest wind that continues to push to the south southeast. So really trying to keep it from continuing to move in between mill creek and sweet water springs, that said a potential shift in the winds in the days ahead, as firefighters equally concerned as we shift in at north northeast wind thats been pushing to the south southeast. The change in the patterns will now push a potentially to the north and northeast. And thats why were doing all that work along west right that road and west side road. Yeah, lets take a look at the l a new lightning complex fire conditions because were tracking. Cooler weather and a lot more moisture so really helping out firefighters, this evening, temperatures right now in napa 76 degrees relative humidity up to nearly 60 and around this time it was in the 40th percentile range so because of the cooler temperatures and calmer winds speeds noticing a lot more moisture there with wind speeds right now sustained at 6 Miles Per Hour. Great news for irefighters any gust that we do see throughout tonight in that area will be around 20 Miles Per Hour or less lets take a look at that air quality for south toledo, like we just saw was a little bit hazy earlier this afternoon but huge improvement already for your friday night but the porous no surprise for those of you in the east bay, so we are going to notice the westerly breezes pushing that smoke and ash right now for most of the inland valleys of the east bay, poor air quality will continue through tomorrow as well unhealthy amounts for the rest of the bay area all weekend long. Thats what we have a spare the air alert in effect from now through sundays, lets take a look at current wind speeds out there right now noticeably calmer downtown San Francisco did see gusts upwards of 40 but now in the teens future wind gusts though for your saturday 20 Miles Per Hour less with winds out of the westsouthwest so we are going to notice a change in wind direction and relative humidity during the overnight hours huge improvement for inland valleys in the north and east bay around 60 to 70 percentile range with near 100 for coastal areas and future humidity levels will show another warm dry day for our saturday with relative humidity dropping as low as 20 to 30 . And some oour interior north bay valleys but stormtracker 4 dry conditions out there right now but just to our south as we head south of the border remnants of what is now tropical depression genevieve will actually bring us the thought of popup thunderstorms and dry lightning and there is a fire weather watch in effect sunday morning through tuesday, more my full forecast in just a few minutes grant vicki back to you thank you bree said another dangerous series of wildfires. At le st 97 structures have been destroyed and nearly 25,000 are currently threatened. We know that 2 people have suffered minor injuries and there are more than 1100 personnel out there fighting th look now at the evacuation map for this fire as well you can see by this area in red just how large the mandatory evacuation. Orders are. And those 2 fires in San Mateo County Santa Cruz County merging overnight. What a swath of land there. And take a look at this a cry for a viewer sent this pia showing the smoke over santa cruz yesterday. This is taken from a flight m heading to the bay area could see a huge plume of smoke there. This is coming from that czu august complex and its thickness is remarkable. Kron fours gayle ong is live for us now in Santa Cruz County tonight, gayle what are you learning about the situation there tonight. And making grand im here in scott valley where sheriffs deputies actually worked on evacuating roughly 12,000 people in this city alone. So they can focus on getting crews into the fire zones. Away from they want to make sure people are away at harms way and we have video just some activity this is by. Hi this is right off of highway one right off the coast, you can still see some. What they saw was a cooling temperatures little when theyre able to start contingency lines. They held a press to this afternoon and heres what they had to say about their firefighting efforts. The fire mean mitigated slightly by the onshore rain flow. The fog clears and so forth. So thats allowing us to get in where we can do some work especially behind the community davenport. Youre looking at some video of really horrific fire damage in boulder creek. Thats in Santa Cruz County it it says done by fire complex there. These homes completely engulfed in flames. Our first dan thorn live for us in Santa Cruz County tonight with more dan. Well the king grand im coming to you live in ben lomond tonight which is just south over the fire continues to rage along highway 9 and highway to 36 dozens of homes and buildings have been burned just north of here in the community of boulder creek. This fire tearing through neighborhoods, leaving behind lots of destruction cars have been burned in the skeletons, downed power lines are blocking streets memories have been turned into piles of ash a smoky haze continues to fill the air here tonight at one point we witnessed a home bursting into flames the fire threatening to spread to another home as it shot up along several trees, some of the houses and vehicles in this area have been spared firefighters telling us that this fight has been difficult because of not only the terrain but the lack of resources because of other fires that have been burning across the bay area. Many of these homes are also located in areas where its one way in and one way out. Many people have so far evacuated except for some like this one man who says that hes staying behind to defend his home despite fire officials recommending people to leave. Is pretty much all we have. So weve been sitting here dont a bunch of work. Clearing it all back into everything cut back nice and clean. Taking care of what we can. The man says that hes been putting out little spot fires in the area theyve also had areas out there where theyve seen fires, popping up and getting a little uncomfortably close to their homes. Weve talked with some firefighters that are out here that are on the front lines that are trying to battle this they say that its been a difficult fight. Its been a long fight fight there are several fires that have broken out across the area here and that fight just continues into the night. Paid and how many people have you seen that are staying to defend their properties thats obviously always an issue when we run into these situations. But is anecdotally does it seem like most people have left or a lot of folks are kind of hunkering down. Now it seems like a lot of people have really gotten out of here and have really heeded the warnings. Some of these areas you know as i mentioned theyre kind of tough to get to not only for firefighters were even for us crews that are out here in the a lot of these roads are very narrow. Its very top, so you got to be safe as youre trying to get your way through these areas, you know you will stumble upon certain spots where fires are breaking out and you know where where we showed you video of that one home that lit up in flames there that was less than a mile from where that gentleman was taking care of his home along with 4 other house mates. I told them hey, you know theres a fire not far from here and that it could come down here. You know pretty quickly and what do you think about it and they say you know were going to were going to do we can to keep thing safe and if you ask firefighters out here about what they say that people should be doing of course theyre going to tell you that they should evacuate. But they also understand that if people feel that they need to defend of whats theirs and all they have done. They understand as w yeah we heard earlier today at the press conference they said please do not if youve been evacuated please dont go back in its a danger not only to you your family but also to the firefighters and people who might be called in to rescue you. Thank you. Dan reporting live for us from Santa Cruz County. All right the weather obviously at the forefront of this whole situation fanning the flames and also pushing the smoke all around the bay area as we take a live look outside on this friday night that is towards the bay bridge. From our camera on sutro tower you see the sales force that is the signature building. I guess you could say these days in San Francisco brand new. But nobody works there anymore because of the pandemic. Well you know and its a pretty hazy picture, although you know just diets San Francisco is probably has got better air than elsewhere around the bay. Lets check in with meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez for greece uh yeah and we are noticing those hazy skies out there right now throughout downtown San Francisco in most of the bay area for that matter. But we are also seeing current temperatures out there right now with that czu lightning fire complex in monterey 71 degrees so getting that cool sea breeze influence because it is right along the coast. Fortunately a lot more moisture out there because of that 70 relative humidity, wind speed of light and breezy around 10 Miles Per Hour or less but. It is an eerily beautiful sight out there where you stuff august this time of year, but we are getting amazing sunrises and sunsets on account of all of that smoke and ash early in the morng and later in the evening, lets take a look at temperatures out there right now downtown San Francisco currently at 65 degrees. Pacifica in the upper 50s getting that cool sea breeze influence their cooling down temperatures along the coast. But widespread 70s as you make your way inland and throughout the east bay shoreline 74 degrees in san jose oakland, 71 conquered though in the mid 80s at 83 degrees one of the warmest cities out there right now but napa and santa rosa in the mid 70s as novato 75 degrees, the current wind speeds noticeably. Calmer out there right now in the Single Digits or teens. Downtown San Francisco did see wind gusts upwards of 40 Miles Per Hour improving air quality slightly but now that were seeing those weaker sea breeze is starting to notice that smoke and ash returning to downtown San Francisco overnight lows tonight low to mid 60s and tomorrows daytime highs away from the coast still going to be warm about 5 degrees above average mid 70s throughout the east bay shoreline upper 80s to midnineties with the warmest temperatures once again in the tribe valleys 94 degrees were conquered antioch in livermore mideighties for san jose and santa rosa 90 degrees. But downtown San Francisco near average highs at 68 degrees. So overall tracking dry conditions and that fog bank right off the coast going to see the marine layer returning during the overnight hours. But remnants from what is now tropical depression genevieve just off the coast of baja mexico will actually make its way into the brain area bringing us pop up thunderstorms and dry lightning sparking new fires if any dry lightning occurrences do happen in the bay area starting sunday morning through Tuesday Morning and unfortunately are added gusty winds with those out for popup thunderstorms could actually spread are already existing wildfires that we have there so dangerous Severe Weather heading our way and it looks like the atmosphere is going to be most unstable on monday highest chance for popup thunderstorms then but we are tracking above average temperatures for the remaining 7 days back to you grant vicki. But the whole lot of tactics going on right there are so we do have a lot of dozers out there so theyre going to be pushing those big fire breaks and thats going to be kind of where we want to hold the fire in.
