Flames move in and destroy homes good evening, everybody, im pam moore, im Jonathan Mccall in tonight for ken wayne we have Live Team Coverage of the fires that are burning across the bay area. Right now fire crews are battling hundreds of wildfires across california all of it happening right in the middle of a blistering heat wave now in its 6th day were going to begin in the north bay and the latest on the l a new complex fire. You can see on your map it shows the areas being affected the flames burning in napa sonoma and solano counties so far the fire has scorched more than 124,000 acres. The blaze has tripled in size since this morning, according to cal fire. 4 people have been hurt 105 structures destroyed. And Officials Say that 25,000 more structures now being threatened kron fours noelle bellow kicks off our Live Team Coverage tonight in fairfield with the very latest on the firefight there noelle thats right jonathan, you know tonight today has really been hectic for a lot of folks in this fairfield. Vacaville area, im standing on the overpass here on i 80 exactly where things shut down around 4 oclock they just reopened in the last 10 minutes or so they just reopened the lanes here at i 80. But theres still a lot of commotion as people have been just trying to figure out exactly where they need to go now as we mentioned theres lots of evacuations in this area. And thats cause a ton of traffic in not on the surrounding streets. I actually was trying to get to vacaville earlier was redirected off of i 80 and then had to try and navigate my way through some back roads and they were all completely gridlocked im not sure if you can see. In the distance but the fire is really growing here tonight across in the hills there between fairfield and vacaville almost looks like that might be a structure back there that might be on fire because that just lit up in the last 5 minutes hopefully. Hopefully not a structure but the way that that smoke is looking just how largent got very quickly here might mean that thats exactly whats burning back there. So many people evacuated, many people actually were trying to figure out exactly where to go i 80 was closed, they pulled up on the overpass where i am to try and look at their maps trying figure out where they needed to be this was completely shut down. Since 4 oclock as i mentioned, and its not just people in this area who were trying to get out a lot of folks that i spoke with were those who are is living in sacramento are up and you know Northern California trying to take i 80 home and they just completely got stranded here, heres what one couple had to say about their experience today. Weve been well the map and weighs been trying to think of circling around for almost an hour and fair and we gave up right away, you know. Everywhere just block out pain is nothing compared to those who have to be evacuated. Todays so yeah we. A good reason i might add convenience for us compared to them i just hope they dont lose that many homes anymore thats the key right there. I guess. Definitely is the key back out here live though as as i mentioned it does seem to be that there is quite the ignition of a fire that just happened just the last 5 to 10 minutes that smoke are really getting large out there tonight again i 80 has reopened theres still a lot there they seem to be rerouting folks coming. Down in the opposite direction. Youre coming west on 80. And so its getting a little backed up. Just ahead of me but nothing compared to what it was when folks were inching earlier today and jonathan. Well we want to we know the lanes are open right now is there any word or have you heard anything about the lanes possibly being shot back down again. If for some reason these flames are able to jump over a highway or as you see that structure, whatever is burning in the back of you that causes any other problems, especially at night because that smoke is there than a lot of folks definitely would be able to see. Devin you know as i have not heard of any potentials for reach shutting down this road but again it was like you said shutdown originally because the fire jumped over the lanes of traffic which had folks sitting here for several hours they were slowly but surely, and of letting people off who were stuck. And here tonight. Im not sure be honest about against you can just see its still very few cars coming on 80 east because behind me they seem to be slowly but surely make letting people here at air base parkway is where im at so thats where the closure started and so theyre theyre just slowly but surely allowing people. Back on to the interstate and then those coming west, it seems they might be turning them around forcing them to come back down west. But again that this the lanes are open now its still slow moving though, and of course dependent upon how this fire behaves as the night goes on it is definitely possible that another closure may happen. Noel if you can just give those who may not be familiar with the area a sense of what is in that area whether its commercial residential just kind of describe. Whats in the area where this is going on. So basically where i am is kind of the beginning of fairfield and everything to the right. I guess you know a little closer than where were seeing these flames is residential, i was stopped on some residential roads earlier today, let me just kind of pull up a map so that i have. A better view for you guys i was stuck around clay bank road here off alaska and air base parkway and anyone who was trying to get on to peabody road that is where there its just completely gridlocked still tonight as peabody road thats a main road again mostly residential back up there is of course then this road leads up into vacaville proper so you get to downtown vacaville that area as well. But its just this. This chunk of land basically in between that the bill and fairfield that has you know continue to burn tonight if youre looking obviously at that orange glow earlier today, it was a much more to the left of the valleys and now it has kind of moved its way down. What seems like more towards those residential areas and when i was in those neighborhoods earlier today. The the air was just pump very very thick very very dark and hazy and i watched as many people were packing up their kids and putting throwing things in the v a in the cars talking to the neighbors trying to figure out ok, its time for us to get out of here because the ash was starting to tableau and the sky was getting darker and darker so that was definitely nervewracking obviously for me just sitting in my car watching them go back and forth to their vehicles trying to figure out what neighbors exactly what route they were going to take because again all of the surrounding roads were just completely gridlocked now. Noel thank you vacaville still has a tough night ahead 5500 evacuation zone, a evacuation orders there tonight, well be checking back with you again thank you. Well right now im near the Rolling Hills neighborhood which is also under a mandatory evacuation if you can see there behind me youll see a lot of lights a lot of Police Lights that are blocking the area blocking the roads people dont go down this area and you know i will tell you this is why you take a look at that video that i shot earlier this is farther down east its down lions road moving more towards the vacaville direction you can see flames on the hillside next to i 80 and if you continue east, you eventually hit cherry glen road of course thats under a mandatory evacuation. We mention that earlier and ill tell you it doesnt look good down there are still men along a gentleman who lived in one of the homes back there he and his friends helped save some of the homes in the area but there is one home they were unsuccessful us. And it was honestly minutes. We saved all the child except for one. Friends and to my girlfriends. Now thankfully, he says at that home that burned to the ground was vacant so nobody was inside so of course that is good news. I also want to remind people of some of the other evacuations that are in place we had them at a rancho peabody road cement hill road in vanden road for now live in fairfield to lead the psac ii kron 4 news. An air quality advisory is in effect in the bay area sensitive groups, including children, older adults and those who have respiratory breathing issues if you have heart issues all should avoid exposure as much as possible. According to experts today. Chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow joins us now with the very latest details on what we can expect moving forward into thursday, okay so we are first dealing with the heat and all the hot temperatures that went for 6 Straight Days and now were going to deal with the smoke for quite some time not just today, but i think for the foreseeable future until they put those fires out we get a significant westerly component the winner seen a lot of smoke around the city of San Francisco right now all around the bay area that smoke trapped that ridge of High Pressure starting to weaken somewhat, but its still very very strong and thats going to keep much of the smoke around so were looking at some unhealthy air equity right now as you can see in the areas in the deep shade of red youve got 3 months, San Jose Mountain view livermore san Ramon Oakland conquered. If the idea all those areas looking a very unhealthy air pork will be continuing in Half Moon Bay, san mateo San Francisco stretching across the bay in Richmond Lael and in the north they of course youre seeing the fires up there too so in around the fire is poor quality but thats going to change you see kind of switching directions little bit that smoke wafting about someone so certainly can be an area where youre nice and clear one moment and all of a sudden you see that smoke move latest on the air quality though from the bay area air Quality Management theres a unhealthy forecast for parts of the east bay and also the south bay. These areas traditionally all those places that have the most unhealthy air and thats because of the terrain you get in between these mountains here its just hard to move that smoke out of there it gets trapped in some of the valleys and thats where were going to see the next few days, poorer quality in the north bay even along the coastline were going to see a westerly wind but you may get your fresh air right out toward the waters edge as you see a litt
