Well mask up or pay up san mateo is the latest bay area county to impose fines for violating mask and social distancing rules now this comes nearly a week after the county was added to the states covid19 watch list. Now the first fine is 100 the second is 200 and then additional fines in the same year will increase to 500 businesses that dont follow the Health Orders can also be fined. Law enforcement along with health and built building inspectors can issue those citations supervisor dana david campus says that the ordinance all about common sense. First well start where you know talking to a person educating them and most of her time in the cases that weve seen and what we talked to share its just some simple that they forgot to put it on. And in cases where they absolutely refuse we do have options of getting citation its i think if we do this. And were aggressive more aggressive. In terms following this i think we can get off the watch list and then its up to the governor to lift the restrictions. Canada says hed like to keep the ordinance in place for as long as we deal with the pandemic contra costa marine and napa counties already have similar a similar policies in place. Santa cruz county also joined the list of counties that will be issuing fines for violating state or county Health Orders. The new ordinance applies only in unincorporated areas of the county individual cities there will be deciding enforcement in their own jurisdictions the penalties and fines are the same as in San Mateo County. Well heres a list at the current covid19 numbers across the bay area as of this morning, there are more than 54,000 covid19 cases, 835 people have died. And were still seeing the most cases in Alameda County and Santa Clara County with over 11,000 cases, both counties have a 192 deaths for complete breakdown by county head over to our website you can always find it listed at kron 4 dot com. Well the start of the new school year is just weeks away but many teachers and parents in the bay area say that they still dont know exactly what school days will look like teachers and parents gathered outside the Mill Valley School district yesterday demanding a more concrete plan. The district is preparing for 3 possibilities that include Distance Learning in Person Learning and a hybrid model. Now for now the school year will start first start out fully remote the parents and teachers say they are still waiting for the answers they need to prepare. Everybody agrees we want kids and educators to return to schools when its safe we just dont all agree much safe looks like. What i understand what im hearing about what the district is offering is not satisfying everybody thats going to be safe. Im concerned that has principals return on janitors return on site secretaries return on site teachers return on site kids return on site that they spread the transmission and then they go back out the community and next thing you know were getting infected by people were shopping with a whole foods. Well for now teachers will be Teaching Online from the classroom and its still its unclear how long the Distance Learning phase will last the Mill Valley School district is waiting for a green light from the county. But once students are actually allowed to get back into the classrooms, they will be provided protective gear, including disposable face mask and touch list, the monitors high grade air filters are also being installed in the classrooms and handwashing will be a priority. Well to the south bay now many teachers in san jose are angry about the School Districts decision to require teachers to teach from their classrooms. Instead of home now its a part of the districts plan for the new school year and it says that by being in the classrooms, teachers will have better resources like stronger wi fi in tech support. But teachers say that returning to schools could put them at risk of exposure to the coronavirus. Ive looked at all the reasons for. Teaching 3 chances, and none of them seem to be enough to risk Staff Members and their family members. Well the School District says that schools have improved cleaning procedures and teachers returning to work will be to follow social distancing requirements. Now to the east bay this morning Contra Costa County says it will not allow Elementary Schools to apply for waivers for in person classes. Now this comes as one of the states Largest Teachers Union is calling reopening schools, reckless kron 4 Sarah Stinson live in Contra Costa County she has more on what is a controversial decision either sarah. Yeah idea was a you know reporting on this yesterday and already we have a response from of Health Department right here in Contra Costa County they say its too risky for in Person Education and so they will not be supporting the waiver application process at this time as we know this applies to Public Private and Charter Schools and when they apply for these in person classes they have to go through a thorough plan and follow strict guidelines set by the state even schools and counties on the governors watch list can apply, but they have to go through even more steps to get approved however until daily case rates percent of positive test rates and hospitalizations are stable or declining for at least 2 weeks Health Officials here in Contra Costa County say they will not be reviewing any waiver requests it looks like Health Officials here are already having written out their own guidelines on top of the states, including frequent testing for teachers and contact tracing. This department is not alone in thinking its too soon to allow in person classes to resume one of the states most powerful teachers unions is also saying it would be reckless to reopen schools. Meanwhile said organizations in has seen considerable interest in applying for reopening, no of course its up to each county Health Officer to review the waiver application to then submitted to the state here in Contra Costa County Health Officials say they will let the office of education here know when theyre ready to take applications but as of now theyre monitoring cases within the county. The team that responded to this you can see the different agencies arriving on scene. She says he contracted coronavirus at san quentin back in june. He is now unable to speak and he listens to his daughter on facetime calls every day and nods and blinks to communicate. The 2 of them are very close despite his incarceration. He clearly e yes, he is. And it shakes it he did not want to be on the machine when we asked him. Well new this morning Health Officials in Solano County are telling workers who test positive for coronavirus they can return to work after 10 days of isolation and they dont have to retest negative for the virus, even if they still have symptoms with an update on the story, lets check in with kron fours will tran who is live in Solano County with details will. And robin theyre also telling the employers that dont prevent them from returning a dont ask your doctors know because they say retesting in making them get a doctors note, well just clog the system and prevent the employee from returning to work sooner then possible it sounds revolutionary was so for we have not heard of other counties saying the same thing but youre absolutely right in Solano County. Theyre saying 10 days after coming down with covid19 or showing symptoms of covid19 as long as he or she isolates himself or herself. After 10 days. They claim that that person can safely return to work and not spread the disease to other people other customers. They say at that point yes you can still test positive for covid19 for weeks but they claim after 10 days, youre no longer able to spread the disease to other people even though its still in your body. Right now Solano County seems to be the only county in the bay area saying this theyre telling people that theyre not supposed to get retested again because getting retested over and over simply clogs the system for those who have not gotten their test in the first place we will try to get reaction from businesses. Businesses im sure waking up this morning saying its a little bit scary but was just have to wait and see if they will comply with Health Officials back to you robin. All right well thank you marty. Well the pandemic is drastically changing the landscape of San Franciscos Fort Mason Center. The center is normally just filled with Art Galleries schools and events but now its just a ghost town as a majority of the businesses were forced to close their doors and go online. Some of the space at the center will be they can as well as large tenants permanently shutting their doors now normally the Fort Mason Center hosts a lot of conventions and weekly events that just bring a lot of foot traffic into that area but now its just an empty parking lot with no one in sight. Theyre disclosed so theres no activity at all struggling on the financial front were also doing things that we can do at our expense is where we can. I wont say or. Probably running at about 2 thirds. Our usual revenue. Well despite all the closures and Council Events the Business Owners here remain hopeful schools like blue there getting creative and they will begin holding sociallydistant lessons outside at the park.
