Is 6 oclock thank you for joining us, im James Fletcher and im darya folsom to new coronavirus test sites are opening this morning. In santa clara county. More than a 100 people are going to be tested each day at the site weve got kron fours will tran standing by live in san jose with more on the story good morning. Well. Good morning james, im at one of those locations, im in front of james Like High School in East San Jose often north white road it will open in one hour from now i daria said they will try to test about a 100 people every day starts at 7 closes at 7 oclock at night. This is not for everyone however weve seen the site said other locations of where people show up from throughout the community in this particular case theyre starting off with a plan that only they are one they encourage people with flu like symptoms noticeable flulike symptoms to come down and First Responders those people will be the First Priority at least when they start off over the next couple of days or so the goal is to open it up to the entire community so if you can go to san jose and you did not make an appointment here. There is another location further south this one in gilroy at Christopher High School same thing you must show flu like symptoms and they also wanted to First Responders at that particular location. But there is a location in san jose that you dont have to make an appointment. If you want to go to East San Jose this is that the Police Athletic league they have more tests available 250 tests actually every day and same scenario they also want you to have flu like symptoms, the reason why theyre kind of being a little bit more pinpoint these days james, and area because they want to get data from the community they want to see how quickly corona virus is spreading or not spreading. Take that data give it to the researchers and then ultimately give it to governor gavin newsom for him to decide how long shelter in place will remain a lot of people they wanted to remain a lot of others wanted to be lifted and get things back to normal. But weve heard the governor say he will not make emotional decisions that he will rely on Scientific Evidence before he does anything drastic and its going to spread out according to many people over the summer months he is working with a lot of the organizers at the 2 locations that i talked about gilroy in san jose to ultimately open up 80 testing sites throughout california with the same goal. Research data give it to him let him make the decision back to it. All right, thanks a lot. Well, lets check in with you later. Its hard not to see how the shelterinplace orders impacted businesses. Most everywhere you look the sign says closed now a glimmer of hope that some stores may soon be able to reopen for Curbside Pickup only im hoping that the that the mayor will follow suit to the governor, but im im happy to wait and see it on over books on food in San Franciscos know italia theyve been doing a lot of online ordering and shipping. But having some contact with customers even in the doorway will be helpful if they want advice about another book whats your best. Bread baking book for beginners i can show them a few different options and they can decide what theyre more attractive to which is a really nice choice to have for them outside is to serve the community because people are really anxious to try to spend their money. In their we have a very faithful following the death their 38 years david island owns just for fun, a gift and Stationery Store in know your value. Filled with everything from fine art supplies to greeting cards to toys to puzzles. He says Curbside Pickup will be a good service for regulars, but it wont do much else. Its not a Sustainable Business where its not going to pay our to pay our bills at all. Island says if Retail Stores are to survive the city must mandate that landlords renegotiate rent terms. He says thats preferable to allowing customers back in the stores too soon and running the risk of the virus getting out of control and forcing another hard shut down this winter during the busy Holiday Shopping season. If this goes through to the 4th quarter or theres another shutdown in the 4th quarter, however, rio. So this straight into liquidation. The mayors indicated she saw for Retail Stores opening up as long as it can be done safely and under certain restrictions she says that decision will lie with the areas county Health Officers in terms of how it can be done and when it can be done in San Francisco. Fire chief says that theyre seeing more Homeless People coming from other cities or counties hoping to stay in a hotel. This comes after the city said that it would secure more than a 1000 rooms for the museum. It it was at least 7075 of those folks were from out of town. And very recently from out of town San Francisco fire chief janee nicholson says who are homeless encampments are popping up across the city he says the Fire Department and its paramedics who frequently in iraq to the homeless recently met new arrivals from out of town what theyre telling us is um yeah just came here from lake county i just got out of jail or and hear from a stockton. And i heard i can get x y and z weve had people walk up to our members and say hey where do i get a tent people also are you know how do i how do i get a hotel room chief nicholson says most common hopes of getting into one of the less than 3,000 hotel rooms, the city secured for its homeless, some folks are calling 911 just to see if they can get on the list for housing they believe that theyre going to able to come here and just sort of have a good time to get some housing originally the city was supposed to secure more than 8,000 rooms in april but failed to meet that deadline just last week mayor london breed put her foot down after hearing that people were coming to San Francisco for hotel rooms i want to get the message out loud and clear. That the people who are already in our system of care. We have a coordinated entry system to help support our homeless population. If youre not in the system and were not in the system as of the beginning of this pandemic then we will not prioritize you over people who have been waiting for hausen for shelter, one from other cities should be coming to San Francisco expecting that theyre going to get prioritize over the people who are here however, some arent convinced said theres a growing number of out of town homeless in the city we asked chief nicholson how theyre sure that these people came from other places i would say that going right along with our Engine Companies with our paramedics or with our community paramedics. Our community permits are really a group of socks. Better trained to deal people who frequent the 911 system a people who are are um you know people are living on the street as well and they are really im really imbedded in the community and and theyre seeing the same thing its not just one or 2 people at all. At all in most cases chief nicholson says that the new arrivals are giving this information to their field crews and asking for help shes worried about more people coming into the city not getting the resources that they need and then causing an even larger Public Health risk on Taylor Bisacky reporting kron 4 news.
