To the northern border of healdsburg d then all areas in between in a fivemile radius because this fire. The worry is that it could jump one oh one and if it does then all of these hills in the communities that are nestled in these hills just to the west of guys are bill could very well be in jeopardy. So thats why the Evacuation Order has expanded and that the warning has expanded to include a 5 mile radius all around guys are in all directions is this something officer going to following all morning long as were hoping to get an update from cal fire here any moment now as to the fire size, their containment efforts have been made any progress overnight and perhaps even a more of a better sense of how Many Properties have been lost because we are getting various reports now of 3 properties here 7 properties there that number. Sure to grow in fact we can take a look at the homes that have burned so far because Sarah Stinson went back into the area that was destroyed in geyser ville and you can see this car or whats left of it all home. Propane tank, you can see firefighters out there chronicling the damage as well as she recorded 7 homes that she saw had burned to the ground. Theres also Associated Press photographer out and he saw at least 3 homes or 4 homes that were on fire and he got shots of those going up in flames last night. So it looks like and you can see here. It looks like the toll is going to be definitely over a dozen homes at this point burned in this fire that is definitely more than 10,000 acres and still growing at this hour. Cal fire does have eyes in the sky right now theyve sent planes and helicopters to assess the damage and also hopefully to get some air drops going because this is rugged terrain as well as you can see terrain that there are a lot of wineries in homes in just a note this morning that the areas of cloverdale and healdsburg which are not under an Evacuation Order. Theyve ordered no school today. Because of the shifting winds, this is something that has been very dangerous. The way these winds have shifted when us james earlier is a growing in any certain direction and he said all directions all fronts are growing. And thats why theyre trying to circle all fronts right now with a firefighting effort we want to check the briefly this morning, were fortunate enough to have state senator mike mcguire joining us on the phone who represents. That part of Sonoma County which is now under siege by wildfire. Center mcguire thank you again apologize for losing connection last time but hopefully we can chat bit longer with you right now good morning. Yeah good morning that theres been challenges with that cell communication. So im so sorry about that we have. Estate up to 90 working with telecom providers. Challenges that were seeing with all carriers throughout the firing. Ok where are you right now. To guide your bill and this is what were seeing right now. The evacuations were issued for town guys proper because spot. Fire started taking place within the bed of the Russian River were starting see him or flow. Head of the and of the fire which caught. And the river bed which is that actually have mild change shared that while from town and i didnt know. Cal fire is now to be known. Resources. On the ground and in the air that will be dedicated to the fire. God that was a fire thing, although starting write overnight. Another significant or otherwise, but in and now resources and other rivalries here says are heading into cinema county even a. The dedicated to fire. There will be 11 a cop youre dedicating fire. In addition to ground respond that way turning up ground. And well continue to swell as the morning and afternoon. Okay and weve heard that that said that that ground effort is about 400 firefighters and growing at this hour. So it sounds like what we were afraid of that the embers from this fire and the winds were whipping them my mileaw wasnt just burning on its own front. It was spreading miles away is that what happened with the Russian River. I hear the challenge that we had. And approximately 02 00am this morning. They were just a wing got 40 plus miles. Within the fire zone. Were starting to him or from the hills down read one euro and then towards the town of guys your bill. And been the biggest challenge with this fire is that a earlier in the night. Were seen 60 mile. 11 30 last night die down a morning hours. But were still seeing preach it will get and that remains the biggest concern to win against bin taken aback. And resources because theyve been so strong. Are you glad that the pga had already cut the power yesterday them. That is still under investigation exactly what happened and how this all started that yet its within power shut off now in youre absolutely correct that the one area where all share in an Evacuation Center during Evacuation Center at the heels Community Center 1557 ellsberg avenue. Heres the different about i got been folks there. And that will remain open for the time being we seek out this fire moves. But again i cant stress enough if youre receiving evacuation notice dont mess around get out get out immediately have a go bag ready to help in queens follow all instructions. The Public Safety personnel. But i want hear were going to have think hard from the ground and on the air today all are being for you. A state of office of emergency serves of ended again its and emerge from its headquarters. In addition all each related coming in, and the state Office Emergency services in providing i account whatever they need get through this senator why are you say youre in transit. The guys really are you on your way to the Incident Command Center and if so when do you expect youll get an update from cal fire now that they have their aircraft in the air and theyre getting a better assessment from above. It could be determined. I know that they have been extreme it being regard. By the fire and their work and updated numbers about their main priority right now has been structure protection. And yours requested. And had been due to light the other part act structures within the fires out. But when we saw you know weve already seen a dozen go up in flames. Are you sure that everybody did get out ahead ap because it started so fast and spread so fast are you sure everybody has gotten out and they got the word and they did evacuate. No details regards to you individuals who got out again not i will share with you. I do know that some neighbors made the conscious decision together stay with their property. But i dont have information from that. Ok. So so even though a mandatory evacuation you do do know of people who decided to stay. We see that with. Any fire live hurricane. Theyre our neighbors who decide to stay in. I try to fight it out themselves what ill share with you if you receive evacuation notice get. Immediately yeah next fire and been dangerous. Its been extremely fast. Its i was going grow significantly. Thats been our biggest concern and that why im grateful to the Sonoma County sheriffs office. And been very proactive on me. And getting folks out early waiting. I last minute theyve been doing great job. Well to that point let me ask you then if you can compare and contrast what we saw 2 years ago versus now in terms of the response in terms of getting the wning out to residents and the evacuation process in general are we seeing an improvement in in those procedures. Give you examples. Emergency officials would rather wait way on the side of caution ken berger says concern and youre seeing Emergency Alert being deployed. Thank shareholders going out. Here in lake county we saw that with incident. If there is a potential a potential for fire closing in on community. I can get them out, lets get residents out early while theres still time to evacuate. And yes, i do believe that were seen to been changed at all. Things change across the state never befors in our history with cal fire. All time. Theyre now fulltime firefighting force there is no buyers even california. Its the largest base in the state now and year party is now prepared to shame firefighters. Equipment during red flag whether i win. Hold your when it comes buy reond. Im issue refunds in fire prevention. Changed significantly over the last 24 to 36 like the still last night when this happened you just had to be thinking after whats unknown has been the what did you what did you think when saw the size of this thing balloon. I had the its a known. Mean you get a whole show about 5 years for. 60 of their since 2015. It allowed in. I would be standing about 1, 2, years ago on with the help now. Its devastating enough, ill be candid it brings back a lot of emotion. Thousands north a raisin in. We are going to get through this. Given this fire all given everything theyve got and resources are being lot i from throughout Northern California into the incident. All right thank you so much for joining us this morning and keeping us abreast of whats happening from your perspective and what you know we appreciate your time. Like you very much god bless because we dont have any new numbers from cal fire weve been going from our own crews on whats been burned so far and and the structures down Sarah Stinson personally counted 7 homes in guys are hill and that have been lost in this. Lets go live to her now sara where are you. Had to come back to the spot i was at last time because service is so spotty when you head down geysers road. But that is where i saw. The road kept going we didnt have time to keep going. But there are. Were going to try and get that video and get some service and show that to you. It is a incredible devastating said video of this million home the address is 2 to 4. Geysers road. They have a vineyard there at first i thought it was a winery. Looking up on google in a. It looks like it was a home that had a vineyard as well, im sure they did with the vineyard. But it was a beautiful beautiful home and it burned to the ground and so sure 9. 30 but looking at what youre seeing now. This the world. In it the intersection of geysers road and red wine or erode the one at least one of the addresses was 1999. Geysers road. Thats where were standing right now truly devastating to actually be in here where its of fact its been a mandatory evacuated area. Just to see this devastation is on. Saddening to see this is a community that thrive arent hurt. This is a community that is going to have to heal from this another California Community having to heal from a wildfire. We havent got an updated numbers on the acreage but being out here. I would tell you its much more than 10 and 1000 acres. Just because ive been on. And still 0 contained we just heard a lot of information from senator who obviously told us theres a tie on of resources being thrown at this which is good to hear because there are more the homes that theyre working as we speak to defend. They want those numbers to not increase so theyre trying their best. Just good news at least that people did evacuate when they did and people in took the evacuation seriously as weve been saying that evacuation extended to 5 miles outside of guys are ville so if you live anywhere in the area i would just take off get what you need get what you love the people you love get out of this area because this wildfire is devastating and its unpredictable. Well have to see when they start using those air drops so far not seeing any of them out here for now live in geyser bill Sarah Stinson kron 4 a test how dangerous it is earlier this morning and you are shifting position several times. In the dark and the smoke and the fire it wasnt easy was kind of scary. Definitely scary, especially when you think youre safe because you you see the fire in distance. But then. These other people evacuating as a dangerous situation we got out safely looks like everybody else got out safely. Anyone getting injured. And now its all about seeing what has been damaged, but then saying what theyre able to save as well and you said that you have personally counted yet 10 or 12 homes in the area where you are that are gone. Completely devastating all the way to the ground. Its just crazy when you see the outlining of items in homes that you would. Just never seen burned like a washer and dryer just the skeleton of that and just saying some of the vineyards crispy like is were seeing those images there on the screen a sarah. Thank you. For those of those are the people that evacuated some of them unfortunately losing their homes this morning and perhaps are at an evacuation shelter right now learning the news and said lets head over to christine attorney hrc is at the Evacuation Center in healdsburg. I want to mention healdsburg us a over dale and healdsburg schools are closed today because the shifting when they just want save him there at the Community Center is kron fours Christina Tetreault standing by with that part of the story, christina. Yes so obviously we have the us schools that are now closed down just to be safe course there is still a bit of a scare in the air when it comes to People Living here in hillsborough you know ive been talking to a lot of people who are volunteering actually here at the Community Say idea that were supposed to be safe and look where power is on the we are still watching the winds because of course they know in just a moments notice that can of course change. But this is actually one of 2 Evacuation Centers, this is one thats been opened all morning since early early hours of the morning red cross is here and they are kind of they kind of had been the the main Evacuation Center so far no of course, the Sonoma County fairgrounds is now open as well for a secondary Evacuation Center. You know again there are a lot of closures that you guys do need to know about a lot of road closures. I know weve been through some of it, but just so everyone knows those Evacuation Orders have completely vent those excuse me those are completely in the town in all of the towns that weve mentioned before. But kizer bill road, especially is one of them all of guys are bill as well so all of those evacuees about 2000 of them are going to be looking for places to go places to say it is still a bit early in the morning, there are people that are still making their way down here too. Hillsbor Community Center so far thereve been about 45 people who have checked in here so far this morning for thats not the amount of people who are inside some people have calm and left theyve come to charge up their things grab some snack. Minute gone to some family members homes, those are some people we talked to earlier today. So right now theyre about 20 people here but people are still trickling in. Its a good little flow thats happening here and one thing i do want to mention is here at the Community Center you know theyve got lot of different resources, not just for people, but also for peoples pets, and actually im trying my fear was someone who did evacuate also his team is still though once you come on and join us. So bill here phone i just met and i know that you probably cant see this from the cameras few, but hes got 2 dogs with him and bill what happened this morning when you guys first heard about the Evacuation Orders what happened from there. Well. We were aware of a fire last night and we halfway prepared in case we needed leave and 5 oclock or so this morning. The sheriffs. Went through where we were staying with lights flashing in on the megaphone or whatever they have loudspeaker saying that there was immediate Evacuation Order. You are required to leave now so are my wife and i packed up our harvey for the rest of it we left. And there you youre very interesting story in and some people have the same story. This Evacuation Order kind of feels like deja vu for you why. We were in the pocket fire we had a. 40 for 40 acres up in guys are real a 3800 square foot house i woke up at 5 oclock in the morning to go to the bathroom and noticed flames 20 feet from the house where the wife up got the dogs got in the car. Because we were going to leave. There were trees down i had to run back get a chainsaw and cut our way out. To rebuild we bought this rv weve lost of class a rv in the original pocket fired 2 years ago so bought this one to live in. Well weve got around to rebuilding him kind of here we are evacuating again. But your main feeling here the evacuatienter. Well, i mean im glad they have an Evacuation Center someplace forced to hang out, but i frustrated that this happened. And also too i do want to point out you have to Furry Friends here with us i dont know if you anyone on the screen can really see them or if we can hold them up at her the 2 frenzy have ranger and watson range of their both rescue shelters and they were left with us enough. Rocket fire. Fact 2 years ago, so there old hands it evacuated. And you also mentioned they kind of feel as though something is up the out there there. Stressed a little bit but as long as they have. Me and my wife around there theyre ok a more care. That mommy and daddy are around. Now when number one thing that people need or that you guys really neei in this process with having to evacuate your home, evacuate things behind which is the number one thing you guys even situation like this. Well some place to go and stay know luckily, we havent harvey that we bought right after the last fire. So im basically looking for some place that i can go payers day or whatever where i can get some electricity in the thing and we can you know we can be ok and selfsufficient on your power. Bill thank you so much for sharing your story with us really really appreciate it. You know it, thank you so much, you kyow bill is like many who again to feel as though the situation is very much deja vu from almost a 2 Year Anniversary of the Sonoma County fire so again resources are set up here at Community Center. It is the main Evacuation Center along with Sonoma County fairgrounds one little thing that the mayor did mention is he saying a lot of people are using the mayor a major 3rd affairs to still go up into the fire area is somewhat of you know onlookers to go in and see whats going on he as well as all the Law Enforcement officials who weve talked with this morning. Please ask that people do not do that this year life could be in danger for now reporting live christina teatro kron 4 news well, thanks christine, because sometimes people want to see if their home was part or not. Im in the best they can do is weve got you know were able like Sarah Stinson is able to get into that area. She saw 10 homes burn were trying to help you out to let you know what neighborhoods was street was at the intersection of road and red ryan re so at least 10 homes were burned there, you cant drive into that area. So well keep you posted on the areas that we see that arbor. Where there are homes lost. Were also continuing our coverage will simulcast on kron on like we always do thats commercial free news coverage. We lifted the pay wall so you can get that you get the news on the go 24 7 with kron on. Thats our app that were staying on the air right here on channel 4 until 11 oclock it clay extending our show 11 oclock this morning and then you have kron on and for complete coverage will be right back with more. Back 9 25 is the time the breaking news this morning fire ravaging the north bay once again. It was this months 2 years ago that we saw the major fires that decimated the north bay one country and here we are on the brink of another major fire 10,000 plus acres burned no containment driven by high winds. They have now pushed the fire dangerously close to the town of guys are ville and for that reason that town along with some of the surrounding communities have been evacuated mandatory evacuation now foug 2000 plus people and it could grow and were just getting word from the robber young winery or from the from the agm. Because weve seen our live shot of that winery and he said. The brush fires have been on their property. The Department Fired a players are on site. None of the winery build were impacted. And the family and the team are all safe, theyre happy to know that they you know theyre ok to weiners okay, this is where Sarah Stinson was early this morning see a smoldering. That winery is cable as we know many many structures have been wind gusts of 70 to 75 Miles Per Hour fuel, a giant fire. Burning out of control in Sonoma County so far more than 10,000 acres and growing as we speak it is out of control there are hundreds of firefighters. That are battling it right now, and there are thousands of people that are out of their homes. More than 2000 people have been evacuated the entire town of guys are ville has been forced to leave and they are right now going to Evacuation Centers, one of them is in healdsburg where they are taking people. Been affected now by fires now well of for the last couple of years, many of them were just rebuilding homes that were lost in the last fire a couple of years ago. This is what were covering this morning is a sad story to see on a day yesterday that broke out when pg e had already cut power to this areacause ey were afraid Something Like this could have. Now i want to bring everybody back to the map and kind of illustrate what were looking at right now in terms of the fire dont Pay Attention to the red areas will try remove that layer for those are the intentional Power Outages by pg when i want you to focus on is this area right herthat section of orange that is the evacuation zone. Were still waiting for cal fire for an update on the actual fire itself and its perimeter. But it is within this area now thats been evacuated. An evacuation zone by the way that has now come all the way out towards one o one. And guys are bill that was the new news this morning that the entire town of guys are bill had to be evacuated we can zoom in just a little bit closer towards guys are real because evacuation area not only is it mandatory and guys are ville but now its been basically extended 5 miles in either direction as of warning area people there need to be ready to go if necessary so 5 miles north along 1 one up towards asked cnn 5 miles south on one oh one and then of course the east and west. Both those directions but that area that takes us to the south is interesting because that brings us right up against the northern border of healdsburg and then out of course we have this area here which is geyser road and red a winery road thats where kron 4 Sarah Stinson been reporting for us and shes been seeing homes burned to the ground and so were kind of watching the deaths of that devastation of the destruction sort of work its way throughout this entire evacuation area keeping a close eye on that throughout the day. Reporters on the ground in video and pictures that weve gotten and that there have been more than a dozen. Homes that have caught fire this. The biggest wanna Sarah Stinson described a mansion, it was maybe close to million. A mansion with look like a Swimming Pool and a tennis court a winery. Great the vineyards and you can see here. It is just lost that was at 20 to 24 geysers road. She also so a size smaller home up in flames at 1999 geysers road and we for confirmation from a family who is housing the person who lost their home there. They saw that home up in flames as she counted, 10 or 12 homes just driving up and down a red winery and geysers road as she saw were gone and an a p photographer was out this morning. And click pictures of home after home and he capture least 3 or 4 just shells they were just completely roasted were hoping everybody got out ok because we know that thousands of people evacuated overnight and now that the suns been up one of the cal fires had their planes in the air trying to get a better assessment of the size of the fire. The progress of it. Their efforts to try and battle it and so we want close tabs on the Incident Command Center hopefully that information will be available soon kron fours will tran is there at the command post in healdsburg with the latest well. Right now they are too busy to mobilize as far as talking to the media but i can tell you it looks like a little military base because they are showing up to this particular location. This is at the Cal Fire Department and you can see as i step out of the way chess. Fire trucks are at this scene ive just being for it it maneuver look at that often the distance you see the bulldozer. You see other trucks pulling into this area. I have been able to find out some information that these firefighters throughout the night at one point they were on the front lines. But a lot of them ran out of fuel, so they came back here took a breath try to get some food try to get more orders and a lot of them james and darya they have been pulling into right here as you can see there is a gas tank diesel tank where they are refueling getting their orders and going right back to the front lines. Look at beyond them look at the hillside. Often the distance there. It is just blanketed by thick smoke, breathing is an issue, a major issue in fact the camera over here. I believe this is where kron 4 sarah stinsoyulia 7 as might be located. But you could see look at that haze right there at all all that dry vegetation. Its in these firefighters that i showed you and many more who are 10. Of saving lives saving homes as best as they possibly can a lot of them are weary. And i talked to a couple of them, theres no rest for them. They came down here drink their Energy Drinks and theyre getting more orders and theyre hopping back in to the trucks and leaving this area and those who are not on the front lines. Well theyre showing up rightanow getting ready for their orders for the front lines. Let me move the camera over here i can show you one oh one off in the distance look at that traffic very light and all those cars going north and southbound james and darya look at is going through im not sure if the camera can pick it up. But you might be able to see some of the haze and the orange glow because the sun is shining in the sunlight through and that hayes so or t li sarahs location i feel the flakes embers coming down to this location looks like this truck is getting ready to leave as well and heading right back to the front line there is no rest for them. Fortunately, im not hearing any injuries to any of the firefighters. Back to have you seen anything in the air chopper, a rare planes because we just heard that they were going to be 4 air tankers and 11 helicopters. Heard helicopters in the air just yet im sure visibility is one of the issues having covered fires in the past that they dont want the chopper. Not to see whether a goalie now that the sun is up is obviously much better condition. And the overnight hours which they almost never do in the overnight hours as far its going up in the air. But i dont hear any helicopters yet, but i do see lot of mobilization at this particular location and look at that it is just a looks like a foggy day in San Francisco. This is not th horrible breathing conditions and any firefighter will tell you james and area. If you can see the air that is bad air and i can clearly see the air could point the very air quality district issued a spirit here day thats for bay area. Theyre saying the north bay, especially well just what you said unhealthy to breathe at it. Dont forget a hot its going to be even San Francisco 90 degrees to so this is the morning the Sonoma County is waking up to lets find out more from county officials. Robin checking a your commute. Through geyser ville do not try and use highway one 28. Its been closed all morning a special alert remains in place was issued shortly before 2 oclock they went ahead and shut it down just east of highway one oh one one 28 closed in both directions between geysers road and downtown geyser ville and that is pretty much until further notice and its safe to say for the remainder of your morning commute so far with a contained fire burning it has no impact traffic on one oh one. What want open no delays and either direction north or south was looking good into and out of guys real if you need to use it checking in on the bay bridge, its been busy all morning and its going to stay the for the remainder of this hour youre still backed up all the way through the maze but to get some relief west of Treasure Island were checking the san mateo bridge another busy commute here from the east bay to the peninsula, the crowding starts on the nimitz and it stays with you all the way into foster city. And free just not free of the slow traffic, the richmond sandra fell looking a lot better so just a minor wait here at the tolls 10 minutes to make it into the north bay and a quick peek at some more numbers to don barden to earlier i talked about that stall. Thats why its so slow its gone the what a mess we have from the east bay to the peninsula. A whopping 32 minutes for the dumbarton bridge to make it all the way over to bayfront expressway and then 5. 80 livermore to dublin, not so bad a quick 12 minute trip there. Well check 2300 people including the entire town of guys are bill are out of their homes this morning. As this wildfire continues to burn in Sonoma County out of control. It is more than 10,000 acres. 0 containment and we do know that they are fighting it from the ground. Offers an air tankers are in the air.
